The kinds of stuff you would be more likely to find on an old VHS tape than a DVD. 80s and 90s stuff. A certain movie put me in a retro mood.

Already grabbed Labyrinth, its a true classic and should be in every collection. Also, my flatmate never watched it, so I need to make him do so.

War of the Worlds from 1953 (Ignore the pictures on IMDB, they are not even from that movie!). That movie had special effects that would have been considered good in the late 80's, and while even less faithful to the book than Spielbergs monstrosity, it's at least a very good movie.

Heat.

It's an all star cast movie staring DeNiro, Pacino, Kilmer and more.

Remember that opening scene in The Dark Knight? Or the Payday games? They drew inspiration from the movie Heat.

Why has nobody mentioned weekend at Bernie's and Ferris Bueller's day off yet? They are 80s comedies, full of cheese and as an adult I want to punch Ferris in the face...But they are classic 80s cheese. :p

Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, New Jack City, The Boondock Saints (newer than you asked for but I love gangster movies), Boyz N The Hood, The Shawshank Redemption, Real Genius, and I'm sure there's quite a few more I could think of but these should be enough. They're mostly from the 1990's but I can't help it.

EDIT: Apparently nobody suggest The Shining yet, which I find kind of strange.
