Geralt is too big IMHO.
Also, there's a lot of good movies based on videogames. To name a few:
Really good:
Not that good, but passable

I do not count animes, as there's shitload of animes that adapted video games, especially VNs, into great movies or TV series ;p
And for me The Spirits Within is very weak movie - it's great technology demo, but nothing more. Plot is all over the place, often contradicts itself, character development is nonexistent and actions are often simply dumb ;p
Warcraft is weak movie story-wise, I hated it, not because what it's based on, but because how poorly written it was ;p
Haven't seen Virtua Fighter or Street Fighter TV shows, so cannot speak about these two ;p

I agree that they're not perfect, but far from the "worse ever" tag to videogame adaptations.
I don't know if it's the nostalgia, but the Virtua Fighter opening is still badass, and gives me goosebumps.

i'm really excited for this series, but i worry i be disapointed cause i idnt particulary liked the books, the time jumps were very anoying and hard to follow for me.Maybe if i didnt read them before going to bed as a way to relax enough to fall asleep.
LOVED the games though, and i think the story is very interresting, full of morality wich i love.

Not really spoilering anything, but just in case...
I thought it was alright, but not really as good as I was hoping for. I usually like story-telling in a non-linear fashion, but they didn't do it right. It didn't strike me as clever, i just got the impression they wanted to confuse the viewer. I also didn't particularly like the ending. But it wasn't bad. I'd say a solid 6/10.

Yeah, that's also my feeling. They were trying to go for this weird Westworld-like storytelling and imo failed. It just makes it confusing to people who didn't read the books and doesn't really add much.
I think the show is ok, but nothing really special. Better than the Polish one for sure, which still doesn't mean it's good. I feel like the plot is being rushed for some reason and the world is simplified (Nilfgaard bad, North good). Plus, the acting feels lacking sometimes, putting a single tear in an eye of a woman is not acting and you shouldn't really do it 4 times in a row. I'm actually liking Cavill as the Witcher although my gf finds him annoying because of his fake, low voice. Jaskier is also pretty cool, the rest of the cast felt really meh.
I'll definitely watch the 2nd season and in the meantime I'll probably re-read the novels (just finished playing through the Witcher 3 DLCs). The show is being criticized a lot in Poland, mostly because more people know the books here and can see the discrepancies. I hope the 2nd season is better, but my expectations are rather low at this point.

Okay, binged 8 episodes in 2 days... and....
I love it. Was really afraid of being disappointed, but it follows the books decently, there's some weird Yennifer arc and couldn't get used to how Triss looks, but overall I'm more than happy with how it ended up.
If you read the books you'll basically know what's happening but it's still interesting to see. If you've played the games and not read books, this is before the games, from Cintra to Yaruga... as referenced often specially in W3. But you'll still be able to follow easily. People who have no idea about witcher will probably be confused, but I really liked the time jumping with the narrative.

As a huge witcher fan I was pretty disappointed in a lot of the creative decisions on this show. The costumes, music, casting and writing (especially the writing) do not do the source material justice. Games>Books>Comics>Netflix Series

Agree, very cheaply made series and lot of changes were made for the sake of changes, cant believe how horribly they cut great stories from first book. Only Cavill was good in main cast, coincidentally he only one who cares about this world from the looks of it, certainly not creator of show, which is sad. Oh well...

I think they can change things if they are doing adaptation so I dont try to judge that much.. There where things I liked and things I didnt like that was changed from the books..
But I really see why critics dont love it as much as fans do. While there are a lot of scenes that are done beautifully, there just endless stream of scenes that are too clean. I dont know how to describe it, but it lacks immersion - it doesnt make you feel that its based in a world thats somewhat similar to middle ages.
The scenes are literally too clean, and it lacks some creative directing.
Overall I did enjoy it, I liked Yens story and I really enjoy actress that plays her. Cavill is great as well and action scenes are awesome (Yens unleashing of chaos for example) , I hope they dont butcher the next seasons

i binge watched season one in the first two days and it was surprisingly good. felt like witcher from the very first moment. so that's way better than discovery already. i hope the next season is just as good or even better.

UPDATE: Teaser is out!
Long story short, after success of Witcher games Tomasz Bagiński, Oscar winning polish producer and his studio Platige Image bought licence to make Witcher movie. Now they sold it to Netflix, and Netflix in collaboration with Platige is going to make full Witcher TV series. So what ya think? You'd watch it? You hope it will turn to be great or rather disaster? Important side-note - series will be related rather to books than video games ;)
