My countries traditions, as of late, are to invade some countries and start pointless wars without ending them while bankrupting our entire financial system for the 99%, As well as destroying any fair chance of being able to make something of ones self due to a dysfunctional government and greedy congress and senate that blocks our leader from trying to help us do anything that would benefit us not in the 1%.

Sorry, I'm NOT proud to be an American.

As a non-american... i can argue that you SHOULD be proud... of your open-mindedness. ;)
Regardless of agreeing with you 100% or not (merely as i don't think it is my place to do so as non-american, because an american would be better informed). :)

As a portuguese, my country has little to no capability to invade any country or start pointless wars (thankfully, actually), but we still manage to copy you guys in all the rest that you've pointed out, even with a very different government system, but just as dysfunctional... Go figure. :(
I guess there's a reason we're often times referred to as a somewhat americanized culture?

I think if there ever was a time and age to start making a much clearer distinction between a patriot and a nationalist, this is it.
Sadly, according to our own dictionary at least, they're one and the same.
Because i do still love my country and the majority of its people (and its culture, especially that of the past), but i hate what it's become for the most part and hate what it's becoming even more so.

All in all, for what it's worth i think we all need to look at ourselves as citizens of the world more than ever.

Just my rather long 2 cents though. :)

EDIT:
Here's at least 1 beauty to behold from Portugal. ;)

Hmm, that's a nice tradition :) And how to exactly play this game? :)
(Added, anyways, just want to know :) )

Comment has been collapsed.

Basically you need

  • 2 coins (heavy coins is best)
  • kip (the wooden thing that holds the coins)
  • a crowd of people (the more the merrier)
  • beer (optional but I've never seen this game played without it)

One person is chosen (usually a person from the army or navy) to be the spinner. The spinner's job is to use the kip to throw the 2 coins in the air until they win or lose. 2 heads means the spinner wins, 2 tails is a loss, 1 heads and 1 tail means the spinner throws the coins again.

If the spinner wins or loses, another person is chosen to be the spinner. Before the spinner throws the coins he/she has to place a bet against another player. Winner takes all.

The crowd will make bets on the side among themselves whether or not the spinner wins or loses.
