You can stream movies. You can select the bitrate and everything. It's slightly buggy but valve will get it working great soon. I recommend you watch Kung Fury if you haven't and it's free. It was funded by kickstarter and it's an over the top 80's action comedy (30 mins long). I loved it.

Next Valve will be selling us email or some such 20th century technology - sigh :-( Why don't companies stick with what they "kind of" do best?

By this logic, Valve would still be just a game developer.

I'll repeat the response I gave in a similar thread.

"I personally have no problem with movies on Steam, especially if the movies are game related. I'd even go as far to say that they are complementary to games. Other movies would be fine too, but ONLY if video games are still the main priority. I don't want Steam to become another iTunes."

Developer Digital has done a fine job of contributing to the game scene, so I don't see a problem with them releasing some of these movies too. If a flood of random movies start showing up on Steam, then it could be a problem. But a few indie movies popping up every once in a while shouldn't be a problem.

Actually, Steam had them beaten there. Indie Game: The Movie came out almost three years ago on Steam.

I was speaking in general. You have to admit, though, that real competition was one of the best things to ever happen to Steam. )

Eh, too little, too late for me. Nothing much makes me want to put real cash on my account now, outside of price errors. I've spent more on PSN sales in the last few months.

Though regional pricing didn't help. Sure, when it first went up and the prices were a mess, it was okay. Now that its all been 'adjusted' (which means most of the bigger devs like SquareEnix, Capcom, Ubisoft, etc, charge a New Zealand tax of an extra 20% on games), I'm not buying anything outside of bundles.

Why are you (all of you) are not happy?

...What?
Read the whole thread again, you'll see that mostly everyone agrees that movies getting on Steam is a good thing. :P

As for me, the reason is simple. I dislike platforms which sells/provide too many "medias". If I'm on Steam, it's because I am interested in gaming and I do not want to see some other stuff such as movies blending in. If I want movies, I'll register on Netflix, if I want music, I'll go to Soundcloud. I like it that way.

It's just a simple matter of opinion, most people watch a lots of movies/TV shows; I don't. So it is to be expected that most Steam users will be happy to see this change, while however, a handful will also disagree, such as me.

Ye, imo it is great and would love to see more movies, have nothing against steam selling any movie as it doesn't affect me, plus I would totally buy if they add some of my favourite comedy movies to steam.

My top favourite is "There is something about Mary" , Night at the Museum 1,2,3 and many others from Ben Stiller, also Scary Movie 1 and 2 , idk there is some feeling that would make me buy, like when you love something so you just buy it, doesn't matter how many times you watched or are you gona watch again, just that feeling makes you buy it, so you can open steam and see your favourite movies in your library, that alone would make me happy.

It's distributed by Devolver Digital (a well known games company), so I'm not sure this is the start of a film wave on Steam. I would definitely like to one day purchase feature length films through Steam though.

It would be awesome if Steam actually offered normal movies and did regular promos for them like for video games. I'd buy a shit ton of them lol.
