Recently there has been a lot of fake giveaways... And surprisingly quite some of them had the creator commenting that it is fake. There has been no duplicates. One of the makers kept spamming the comments that it is fake, and afterwards - he kept creating new giveaways and still spammed by commenting that the giveaway is fake, even as the first post. There has been no ads...
So I'm wondering, what do you think were his motives?

He probably made fake ones to get points but he was somehow nice enough to let people know it was fake so they wouldn't waste their points on it.

I suspect that some are not fluent in English and misunderstand "Create Giveaway" (thinking it means "Recieve a gift").

Example:

http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/2tsam/brink

Again, they can be using "fake" incorrectly.

To get some points?

That was my first thought, but... Can he really be THAT stupid to do it? Isn't it obvious that he will get banned? I simply can't believe that he could've been so stupid, lol.

It's a good site, full of generous people... Though the percentage of winning is low - but still it's a good site. Especially when you have <30 games, as the last one I remember did.

I do believe it's stupidity, or more precisely, lack of common sense. I think he thought that by telling everyone it was a fake (I even saw it in the description of the giveaway), he was doing something legit to win points... I had no idea what he was saying (besides the "it's fake!!" part), but I got the impression that he was getting more and more desperate because people kept entering it lol

Lol. Can someone really be that stupid? Well, either he's a 9-year-old, or he's a complete idiot. That's why I can't believe it, lol. By the way, I know quite smart 9-year-old. :P Even have him in my Steam contacts.

there was that guy who made a load of entries

including a 30 CoD:BlOps entry

thought that you just made an entry and the games magically got created

he was about 13 though... but then we found out he was just trolling

I found it so funny that people still entered

Some people either don't speak English or just click "ME ME ME ENTER THE GIVEAWAY ME WANT GAME!!1!11", and so there are around 30-50 entries. :P

I think on this site the word FAKE is universal

Simply to troll, there doesn't have to be motivation outside of that. some men just want to watch the world burn (or Steamgifts).

I don't think they meant to. I believe some people join this site because people are like ZOMG BRAH FREE GAMES. Due to translation errors, they go to "create a giveaway", but think it is something else. I kind of think they think they select the game they want, and the number of copies they want, and expect to get keys.

I'd ban these "slow" thinkers.

Not in this case.
In this case the guy created a giveaway, shouted that it's fake, then created a new one, and did the same, and so on...

I think he did a whole bunch, then realized what was happening and edited them all

He wrote comments in-between doing them, at least between doing one of them.

more likely i think is the case of two accounts in that the first spams giveaways and the second profits with extra points

There should be an IP check in this site. If a login with a duplicate account found - off he goes with both of his accounts.

The problem doing that is for like if your brother or someone under the same ip on dormitory or a lan elsewhere access the site, they would be blocked as well.

But if we have a system that check the IPs and list the dups, which shouldn't be that much, would be easy to find out who have accounts just to make points or to get more games.

Yea, good point, didn't think of that.

From what I understand people are being given free games to provide an invite code. Invite codes cost points but once the 'seller' has given the code out and been gifted the game they were promised they have little to lose, therefore creating a bunch of fake giveaways to get the points to give out a code is getting them free games... they don't even have to enter the giveaways.

That is a neat theory, and it's perfectly logical. Especially if they have a lot of accounts - it's basically nothing for them. Didn't think of it that way... Cool.

Yep this was discussed before, they create fake giveaway to generate points, so they can sell invites.

They're not all Russian... how can you tell they are Russian? If I were from China, for example, and wanted to conceal my conversations on forums and Twitter from users of this site... I too would use the Cyrillic alphabet :p

Not all, most of them, about 95%. And if ask me - I check their profiles. I'm assuming he only assumes that they are Russian, same as most people do.
