hi admin, please post this in the Announcements section and make it a sticky please! This is an incredibly useful and crucial post since without it we won't know how to properly format our topics on this forum. The formatting used here is quite different from the standard websites. Thanks!

Actually, this thread contains highly outdated information fromthe old version of the site.
You'd be better off clicking on FAQ at the top of the page and then on "Comment formatting".

Does editing a comment set off the new message indicator next to the recipient's account button on the top menu? Or will that only happen for new messages?

SteamGifts offers a unique solution to images, and rather than embedding them inline, images are converted to attachments and appended to the end of comments. Images are hidden by default, and users can toggle their visibility using the View attached image link. Refer to the bottom of this post to see the result of the below code. The included text will be used as both the title and alt attribute for the image.

That is what editing is for.
You can edit the description of your giveaway / comment / discussion as many times as you want until you get it right.

Well, constant post updates "until I get it right" aren't really going to attract someone to trade / comment / discuss. It's not that I can write "just getting my post formatting together, come by later for the final version". I mean, I can, but I won't. This thread is full of "tests", don't see any reason why it shouldn't stay here for future "testing".

You can do whatever you want for all I care.
But this is what I was responding to,
need some place to test the formatting before posting
If that is all you was doing than you can post once & just edit your post to test things.
Or you can keep creating new posts and then deleting them. Whatever.
Do it however it works best for you and makes you feel good.

Thank you for this, I would not have guessed how to bold stuff in my trade threads otherwise.

Hello community,
I didn't see where this has been covered before, but I see a lot of people that are simply copying and pasting links. Hope this helps.
This list should do a lot for the basics and cg added this link to properly use the Markdown syntax. HTML tags are excluded.
