As you may have guessed from the thread title...

I'm going to Rome!

Next month, I am flying from Washington, DC to Rome, Italy for my first-ever trip outside the North American continent. I cannot wait! I'm going with my girlfriend, who has been to Rome before (as well as a bunch of other places in Europe), so she will be my travel guide.

But I'm also interested in hearing from SG. Give me tips about traveling, or stories about Rome or Italy, or whatever you want to share!

See below for a few Level 1 Rome-related giveaways and one that has nothing at all to do with Rome.

Vado a Roma!

If any SGers in Italy want to meet up -- looking at you, Caio! -- contact me on Steam!

Have a nice trip, and please, if you go to a restaurant, don't order spaghetti and meatballs, we don't do that...

Congrats on the trip, Canis39!

I've been to Rome twice but it has been a while.

It's very much worth a visit and you definitely won't be able to see all of it in a few days.

There's some good tips in the thread already, I don't think I could add much. The state of the roads in Rome is quite deplorable these days but I doubt you were planning to rent a car.

When it comes to gelato; it's amazing and there are loads of places to get it. Many places sold a special with all the flavors (over 50) when I was there.

Never been to Italy, but have a fantastic trip, canis! Take in the scenes, the sights, the food, the music, the atmosphere, the people, and bring back some memories to last a lifetime. :D

Also, enjoy a random cover of "The Promise" by When In Rome. ;)

I'm sorry but I'm just thinking of the right words to say...

Great song! I haven't heard it in a long time, and I've never heard that cover. It was pretty cool!

Enjoy your trip and beware of the traffic. In Rome some times is hard to cross a street 😅
And... you can also imagine you're playing Assassing Creed 2 😆

Great news! Enjoy your stay in Rome. Although it's winter, I can recommend you a very nice gelateria (ice-cream shop) near Pantheon. At least I hope it's still open. It has/d like hundreds of ice-cream flavours!

And if you like cats, check out Largo Argentina where there is an open air cat shelter amongst the ruins of ancient temples xD

If you look for more historical advice, I'd be happy to help, too. Roman times is my favourite period.

Thanks for the Rome-related GAs!

Yes, La Palma is astonishing, but maybe Giolitti is the most delicious icecream store (and it's in the same area)

Take also some time to walk around without any specific destination in mind. As long as it's daylight and you are in central areas, you won't run any risks, and you'll be surprised about how many interesting things you can run into just by walking on random streets, and without big crowds of tourists and pickpockets among them.

Is it Cremeria Monteforte or Caffé Minerva? Those are the two that show up when I look at the Pantheon on Google Maps. :)

meet up

guess not this time, my bud.
don't know why i've thought you'd arrive at Malpensa airport (Milan)... but, maybe, is better like that, cause you'll surely need every single hour of those 4 days, canis... but still:

i can send you my mobile n° so, if you'll have any doubts, questions, whatevers... you can whatsapp it and i'll try to answer as soon as possible (with no additional charges*!)

(*the "I'm Back from Rome!" thread's excluded)

LOL you don't know that I'm going to make an "I'm back from Rome!" thread!

Okay, I probably will.

I fly into Rome, from Amsterdam... so unfortunately nowhere near Milan. But I will talk to you on Steam before I leave. I appreciate you being my "phone a friend" in Italy!
