Have you been to Rome?
My girlfriend wanted to go to Rome, so we went last year and stayed there for 3 nights. We liked it. We actually manage to visit the grave of on of the two brothers that create Cyrillic alphabet (the highlight for me). His resting places is in Rome.
One advice. If you visit the Vatican, across the street from the entrance there is place to you can eat. I think it was called Cafe Vaticano. Something like that. Avoid it like the plague! It's extremely expensive, no prices on anything, the food is average and they don't like debit cards. When the waiter saw my card, he was avoiding as for 10 min. They take only cash. I had to walk for 15-20 min to find an ATM. It almost ruined the trip.
Hope you like it there. We did with one exception.

Be sure to visit the Trevi fountain at night when the tourists are gone!

a roman taxi driver yesterday said, on the radio, that Rome is a desert, at night. like:
"you can go from northern point to southern in 20 minutes! that's was just impossible few years ago! we're are kinda craving fo' food here!"
(there's no traffic at all, in Rome. cause you're just immovable, fixed on the ground... during the day)
so, or you stop having caffé ammmericano and ti bevi 'n espresso ristretto, so you stay up late or -and that's what i think- he was just complaining (as usual for them)

Lol. I think I was there past midnight back in autumn 2005 and there was hardly a soul in sight.

Nessun maggior dolore che ricordarsi del tempo felice nella miseria.
I really like Italy. I've been to Milan (about 4 times), Bergamo and Rome. As a city of such cultural and historical importance, Rome has held up so much better than, say, Athens. It is a beautiful place with so much to see and do. The Forum Romanum, the Colosseum and not to mention the Vatican are immense and need to be witnessed in person to fully appreciate. Needless to say, I love the food, all of it. As someone who has read -- and enjoyed -- the entire Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (although not in Italian, but in English/German) I would have loved to go to Florence and Ravenna, but that will need to happen another time!

As you may have guessed from the thread title...
I'm going to Rome!
Next month, I am flying from Washington, DC to Rome, Italy for my first-ever trip outside the North American continent. I cannot wait! I'm going with my girlfriend, who has been to Rome before (as well as a bunch of other places in Europe), so she will be my travel guide.
But I'm also interested in hearing from SG. Give me tips about traveling, or stories about Rome or Italy, or whatever you want to share!
See below for a few Level 1 Rome-related giveaways and one that has nothing at all to do with Rome.
Vado a Roma!
