I type competitively and take typing tests online for fun. Just curious what the typing speeds look like around here.

EDIT: Since it's anonymous, I hope people will be honest about their abilities! I'm genuinely curious.

EDIT 2: Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm gonna plug my favorite typing website: typeracer.com

Apparently im around 10 WPM faster in english than I am in my native language (swedish), odd
But then I was pretty tired while doing the test, without any coffee infront of me to keep me awake and motivated. So I only got a 78WPM now, I think that im a bit faster normally.

I got a 136 later that same day but didn't bother saving the screenshot. Cracked the top 20 on the website.

60ish. I still have to look at the keyboard occasionally and my fingers move all over the keyboard. I tried practicing touch typing on my own before, but it isn't that important if I can type 60+ without it.

I got 94 WPM but only bothered to try once so I did make a few mistakes I had to correct while doing the line. I think I could easily go 100+ otherwise. Cool website though, thanks for sharing it!

I did a few tests and got in the high 70s and low 80s. My accuracy certainly wasn't perfect, but of course these days it doesn't need to be, right?
Neat site BTW-- I'd never heard of it.

I can't believe anyone that says that they have 120+ wpm. That's probably their cpm instead.

120+ wpm is very doable if you have the right technique. Some people can get upwards of 150, if you look at the top rankings in some typing speed websites there are people with like 180. Also, what is cpm?

CPM is characters per minute.

EDIT: Oh yeah. I agree with you, however, the speeds that you see around 150-180 on those websites are usually very short lines of text, which allows the users to get ridiculously high WPM scores. Those samples are definitely not near their actual speed. as tested by a full minute of typing.

Also possible to achieve speeds of 200 WPM or more if you learn/practice Stenography, although it's not very common if at all.

This is true, but it also requires a stenotype, which types a shorthand version of the text that needs to be translated.

Yes, that's true, but there are a few programs that help with that if you dig around.

CPM = Characters per minute.
The only reason why I'm saying that it's improbable is, that this is statistically improbable. It's like saying that there's 40% die at the age of 80+ and another 40% die at the age of 20-25 with 20% dying at random ages. I'm not of course trying to say that people can't write at 120+, I used the wrong words. I was mostly guessing that a lot of the people who used that option, wrote it as a way of bragging by the means of lying.
Again, please don't think that I'm talking about everyone. I have all the respect for you guys. Especially because I have 40-55 xD

Kite is right, 120+ is very common for those who type frequently and develop their touch typing technique.

I have no idea. Once I typed the alphabet from A to Z in about 2.5 seconds though.

66 WPM English. There are other relevant things other than typing speed itself. Like word processing differences. It might take others longer to process the words, see the words. Would be faster if someone was reading out loud so wouldn't have to move eyes.

That is a good point. Those kinds of abilities are important to consider with typing speed. For instance, I type much faster when I'm reading what I'm typing. My eyes are typically about 3 or 4 words ahead of my fingers.

Yeah, I suck at writing without looking at the keyboard. I don't do touch typing :( Also I get these mental pauses where I almost forget what I'm doing for a second and it throws me off. Could be the aspergers, could be the meds. Could just even be me.

58 wpm in eng (my "/" key in eng layout doesn't work so i must press ctrl+shift to press shift+7 which will type "?")
196 cpm in rus (so since my "/" key broken (",", "." in rus layout), to type comma or dot on rus layout i must press ctrl+shift and press shift+< or shift+>)

but i know for sure that i type faster than in these tests, because when i type by myself, i know what i have to write, when in these tests - unknown text.

102 English no mistake

92 Romanian 4 mistakes.

I guess if I try more I can get higher on both since I started around 85 with English and after 3-4 tries I got 102,while I got 92 after 2 tries in Romanian.
