So This Scammer ( I Can Provide Name If Needed ) Said He Would Give Me $ 20 Steam Wallet Code For My Sr 3 The Full Package And Speedrunners . At First I Didn't Trust Him So I Ask Him For His Steamtrades Profile . And His Account Positive Was Over 120 ! I Was Like Ok I Think He Won't Scam Me So I Go Ahead And Send Him The 2 Gifts And He Just Go Offline Afterwards . Is There Any Ways I Can Get My Gifts Back ?

So its their fault if someone is naive (trying not to use stronger words)?

Permalink

Yes, it's their fault they are too lazy to make their platform more secure or to hire a few more lowly paid workers to make support more responsive. Instead, they prefer to just go and crap on customers if it means less work. Whose else's fault? Aliens??

If someone wants to buy your Steam credentials for $1,000, will you do it & then complain about it & clog up the support just because you're too dumb to not see the scam?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How am I trolling? I'll use an example so you can understand better my reasoning...

Let's say I'm eating something in my car but fall ill & die after a few days because the food was poisoned or whatever. Do you really think it's the car company's fault?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm pretty sure, if you're in 'murica and the car's manual does not state "do not eat poisoned food inside the car" you can sue the car company - after all it's their fault for not including it in the manual!

NO, Its not redirected. Mention his steam account here if you can. And it should not connected with steamgifts/steamtrades correctly as you think. We call it an impersonator, the way they try to be similar with a good/promising steamtrades account with HIGH Rep. So you will think about "You can trust him!".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

mentioning steam account could still be considered calling out. Also he could just mention his "nickname" instead of account link as reply to your post - what would be false-accusation calling out.

There's a reason why NO CALLING OUT rule exists. It doesn't matter if you call out by SG/ST username or profile link.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Impersonators change their nickname and picture to look like someone else that you would trust. The Steamtrades profile he gave you didn't belong to him. If you click on the "View Steam Profile" link at the top of the Steamtrades page you will see who the profile really belongs to.

When someone sends you a Steamtrades page for proof of reputation, always click the link at the top of the page and check if it's the same profile you're already dealing with.

There's something, if he still has the link to the scammer (the real scammer not the impersonated ST user) on steam he can go to steamrep, get the steamid64 and do an impersonator report (not scam report, so pointing as victim the impersonated trader) even if it's not aproved, it will be obtained as a result on a search there. It's something, not for OP, but to attempt to stop scammer in the future.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I was not mentioning SteamRep, because based on his comments so far he'd probably end up reporting the trader being impersonated ;p

Also for SR report he would need proof - as he's obviously totally new to trading I don't think he screenshoted trader's SteamID64 and chat/trade history beforehands (heck - if he knew what SteamID64 is he wouldn't trade with impersonator in first place).

Also also - SR takes forever nowadays to solve these issues.

Also also also (xD) impersonator will just make another scam account.

oh my Goodness you ARE SO Right. VALVE has a 30 day limit on trading. go to your bank and tell them to get your money back from the payment........ unless you bought those items A Month ago. then valve has your money now. because if you bought those items like a day or 4 ago then you can get a charge back and this scammers account will be Rendered USELESS cant launch a game cant trade cant edit profile it can do NOTHING :D

so maybe you could be in luck!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is a bad idea. Doing a chargeback on the account that bought and then gifted away the games will caused that account to be banned.

Sure, the scammer would lose the games they stole, but the person doing the chargeback loses their entire account to do so.

Scammers do the chargeback scam with throwaway accounts; doing it with a real account to try and recover the price of two minor games is an awful idea.

20$ for SR3 Complete Package and Speedruners, is really easy to someone to scam you, next time don't believe offers that are too good to be true, and you cannot do anything, you gifted him the games, with the new gifts that cannot be traded for 30 days, or even if can be traded if you just gave him the games via trade window you accepted that you won't have anything in return, for Steam Support there is nothing wrong when someone gives for free some games to another user, so they won't do anything, also selling Steam games bought on Steam for Paypal is against their ToS, so they won't help you.

Also in case you gave negative rep to the person who this scammer was impersonating, remove it.

Ty Mate Btw I Already Removed The Negative Rep

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sadly, I am the one getting impersonated ( I just checked my SteamTrades profile and I noticed one negative rep). Someone from my friend list told me I was impersonated 2 days ago, and I instantly adds some text regarding the profile link of the impersonator to warn people about it ( I guess it's ineffective lol). So, how can I fix this? WHELP! :((

EDIT: Seems like that guy is impersonating other guy now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you cannot. You can write a support ticket about false rep, but nowadays nearly noone is managing ST tickets sadly :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Writing a support ticket is the way to get it removed, but Rinarin is the only one with the autority to do so and I can take months before she gets to your request.

You can always try to contact the person who left the negative and explain the situation to him. I've managed to reason with a victim of my impersonator once but it took some convincing and he only started to listen after I threatened to report him for fraud.

FYI: No one can transfer you Steam Wallet funds. If you ever see this being offered, it's 100% a scam.

Also, unless you added the person yourself, never go first in a trade. In fact, if you get a random friend add out of nowhere, it's likely in your best interest to avoid doing business with them at all.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well - he said Steam Wallet CODE - and these do exist ;) So I can imagine someone trading Steam Wallet Code for games, same as PayPal transfer for games. But rest of your post is still valid ;) Also not to mention the fact that if someone is offering you 20$ for sth worth 5-7$ it should ring the bell as well.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah, my bad :) I've seen people offer a "wallet transfer" before and mistakenly thought this was the same case.

Still shady for sure for someone to add you out of the blue and offer you 3-4 times the value of your games as long as you go first :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i think he was offering a steam wallet code from gift cards that they sell in stores here.

op next time click the link in the rep and MAKE SURE ITS THE SAME ACCOUNT. its the net people don't trust anything i never go 1st unless the account has about 250-500 games atlest.

if you sent them as a gift and not threw the window tell steam you sent them to the wrong guy. if you tell them you got scamed they won't help you.

It's So Hard To Read Your Post When You Write Like This, Please STOP!
Always check if the user is actually the real steamtrades user, you can install Enhanced Steam in your browser and his Steamtrades profile will appear on his Steam profile, there's no way to get confused with that addon.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Dont believe his words and his link to steam trades profile, you need to find his profile using his steamid, when you go to steamtrades one of sticked threads is how to find user by steamid, read that.

So when someone adds you, you check his profile in steam client, you check profile that added you and you copy his steam url (you need to enable in steam settings to show you url of page) go to steamrep and paste url, now you will get his steam id 64 on steamrep, that is the one with numbers, then you go to steamtrades and find his profile using his steamid, and never trust his words and his links.

You need to find his rep using your google skills and using his steamid (not custom id, only steam64 id, the one with numbers) that can't be faked.

sound too complicated.

why not simply click "View Steam Profile" in steamtrades and then compare profiles?

or install Enhanced Steam (brwoser add-on) and you'll get a "steamtrades" link on the user's Steam profile.
