Additional rules, like "redeem in 1 day", are null and void. If the winner is friendly, he/she will agree to delete the giveaway, but rules say you have to deliver the game within 7 days and the winner has these 7 days to collect the game.

That rule was made when Steam allowed to store gifts in inventory though.

Yes, but as far as I know the rule is still valid.

The inability to store gifts + regional gifting limitations are the reasons why I have not bought anything on Steam to gift here since 2016 :/

Yes, but as far as I know the rule is still valid.

Immediately after the inventory change occurred, SG staff indicated they'd be lenient toward excusing giveaways that required redemption before 7 days, when the reason was due to the Steam store ending a sale prior to that point. They haven't yet made any comments toward negating that leniency, that I'm aware of.

Though that leniency may just be in them not considering it a black mark for your account, rather than in them giving you permission to delete it without winner consent, so..

Yeah, like you, I haven't bothered with Steam store giveaways since the change. All the more so since they added in the region restriction hassles.

By "redeem in 1 day" I meant, "add me on Steam as a friend and receive the Steam gift in 1 day".

You can only delete the giveaway after its end if the winner agrees to it. You can add a desciption in your giveaway, telling all who enter about the sale, but if the winner do not manage to get the gift in time and is an asshole, he/she might just deny your request to delete the giveaway.

Private or public makes no difference in the rules, but you can preselect your trusted participants who agree with your own rules and don't insist on general SG rules. ;)

The 7 day rule hasn't changed so therefore it is still in use. You have to allow a minimum 7 days for the person to collect the game otherwise you could be the one in trouble with the sg mods. Also if the person refuses you to delete the giveaway, if you cannot provide the gift due to whatever restrictions etc, they can mark it as not received.

You can request but you can’t really enforce. If the person is willing to play ball that’s great, but you should be willing to either buy the game elsewhere or accept a Not Recieved mark if you go for this idea

you can make an invite only giveaway, and sent the invite link after they say: I agree to delete the giveaway if I don't have redeemed the key in x hours after receiving the key.

In this case the participants gave their written permission for deletion of the giveaway. I don't know if it is legal, maybe someone else can verify this?

As said above, something like that is not binding.

The reason is the FAQ, saying

You can submit a ticket to have the giveaway deleted. In order for us to delete the giveaway, the winner will need to post a comment on the giveaway saying they agree to have it removed.

This is given as an example for region restricted GAs, but as far as I know it is valid for all giveaways. As long as the winner does not comment in the giveaway that should be deleted, the GA will not be deleted.

Sorry if I am being a little on the negative side.

Probably it will work fine and the winner will be friendly getting the gift in time, but just in case he/she is not ...

Have a nice day.

You're right. It is valid for all giveaways. I requested to delete a giveaway where I gave the winner a key for the wrong game (same series). The winner was nice enough to agree to that.

Like Oppenh4imer mentioned listing something like that in any type of giveaway(public, private, group etc.) description doesn't hold any weight as far as the SG rules are concerned. The winner has options like requesting a new key from the GA creator. They can also mark not received if the GA creator doesn't deliver the key. They don't have to delete it.

Hey Samurai, have you considered doing giveaways on Reddit? You can do 24 hour or 1 hour giveaways and you can randomly pick from whoever comments or ask them to provide a song, joke, etc.

Two SubReddits I sometimes use are r/RandomActsofGaming and r/giftofgames. Each has its own rules, so you will need to review them before making a giveaway.

You can like do a forumgiveaway, pick 5 winners and have them battle it out in a private GA in the end.
Of course you still got a problem if one of these ends up being an ass. :/

You can also wait for the Steam Lunar sale. The games on sale there are guaranteed to last as long as the event is going on, which should start on Feb. 4 and end on Feb. 11

It's extremely rare for people to take more than a couple of days to accept their winnings, and even in the worst case scenario that the winner takes too long and refuses to delete the GA - all you'll lose is 1 GA slot. Definitely not the end of the world, and shouldn't be enough to discourage you from making the giveaways you want to make :)
