So I'm wondering why we have Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on Steam, but not the second one. Likewise I'm wondering why we have Sims 3 but not Sims 2. You get the point. Is there a reason that earliar series are sometimes not on Steam? Is there any possibility we may one day get RCT 2 or Sims 2 on Steam? I mean I know I could buy them on another website, but that's not the point of this thread.

They'd have to make it work for/with steam and possibly maintain support (for future OS, hardware, drivers... and whatever).

I could also imagine that valve asks for a much higher fee for games from huge studios/with a huge name, so they decide to not bring all their titles on steam, but only those they expect to pay off.

That makes a lot of sense. But then why is it that I can buy those games on other websites, like GOG, Amazon, ect? That's the part that doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Different contracts. Steam is not worth it for a lot of people.

They say Gaben cannot count to three. The truth is that Gaben CAN count to three, but he releases the 1s and the 2s, and the 3s are reserved for other games that are not released by Valve. It all makes sense...
