Is the singleplayer really an open world game? or are there too many invisible walls?
How is the multiplayer? LAg issues?

Yes it is indeed an open world game. The way the map is laid out you really don't find yourself needing to go anywhere near the "Invisible walls" as everything you need to do is away from them. I have over 100+ hours sunk into that game and its worth every penny invested and every second invested.

As far as multiplayer, the few times I did play it seemed uninteresting and boring, to be honest. No lag issues though. I will say that the single player campaign more than makes up for it though.

There are a number of player-made modules that focus on multiplayer (or are both single=player and multiplayer!) that change up the usual deathmatchy mess you would expect in Warband native, so that is something to be aware of - cRPG is a biggie, but for the more roleplaying oriented there are modules like Persistent World!

Hey, thanks for that. I played Warband without any Mods for longer than I care to admit. When I discovered "diplomacy" my entire world changed. I was like, how in the world have I played this game without this mod before. I never thought to look for Multiplayer mods. Thanks again for the heads up!

Well, yes and no. It is not open at all like GTA or some other sandbox.

We have a large open game overmap, that is sandboxy as you go anywhere and do a bunch of different things (merchant, slaver, quests, swear loyalty to a king/baron, become a king/baron). There are no invisible walls so much as mountains and oceans that are impassible. In the close ups the cities/towns are extremely invisible wally, but then they are mostly props for battles (there are no game mechanics that would make sense for exploring these type of things).

It is an absolutely amazing and unique game for battling, with very clumsy strategy controls. The focus is personal, but as one among many vs many. The multiplayer is absolutely abysmal as far as I can tell.

Are there mods to update the graphics? Also, should I get the DLC's? I'm currently on the fence with this one

There aren't really any modules that 'update' the graphics so much as add in some more effects and textures and all. You can't expect any snazzy enbs.

Napoleonic Wars is the only DLC for Warband (there is a standalone - With Fire and Sword - which is the step between Warband and NW) and some people seem to really dig it but I have certainly heard some mixed things. If you want some additional line fighting flavor, then go for it but I would probably wait and see how you like native first.

Yes, lots of mods, lots of graphical updates.

The DLC is not really DLC, it is a different game set in a completely different time period. And I have not played it yet. But I do know that last time they added guns it was really lame. But I sure there are loads of reviews out that that will tell you if it is better/worse than the original.

i think the only dlc is multiplayer only and based on a mod(if you get tired of medieval multiplayer you get nepolionic wars and play with guns)

the graphics seemed perfectly serviceable to me, never bothered to look for graphics mods.

too bad the workshop integration is still buggy.. they should fix that before advertizing it..
AND, I also noticed that Paradox is one of the developers! Makes it feels like I'm playing crusader kings II! =D
