HotS is almost out, so bear in mind you won't have the new stuff, if you buy WoL right now. I wouldn't pay more than 15€ for that, which is kinda unrealistic as far as Blizzard pricing goes. I've stayed with Starter, since I can play some regular games with friends on full accounts.

I find the Campaign and user made maps fun. The ladder on the other hand, is not so..

i like starcraft 2. i would say it was worth between 30 to 60 depending on how much you like RTS.

Just wait until 2015 when all of the campaigns for all the races are released in one commemorative box.

Yes absolutely, even if you only like the arcade and campaign! Tbh, ladder is ok...to an extent, though some people on there take it way too seriously. Ie: bm/harassment after match.

i'm not a fan of strategy games, but i enjoyed sc2 when i played it

I was a huge Starcraft fan, and I've waited to build my latest computer until Wings of Liberty came out.

Campaign: Probably one of the best campaign ever made. The maps are very original, you can personalize your stuff some, definitely worth it. The story is kind of meh though (read here much more cheesy and less original than the first game), but in terms of gameplay, the campaign shines.

Custom maps: I'm actually disappointed by those. I expected a lot of variations, but they are difficult as hell to find. They are all either survival against hordes of infected units, moba-style games, or that other ugly mod about some being scvs running on ugly maps and building ugly bases against an ultra player trying to destroy them all. There were some RPGs, but finding players for any other kind of game but those 3 mentioned above is difficult.

Ladder: I wanted to practice and become good at regular Starcraft, and I was disappointed by the ladder too. Well, not the ladder, but the people in it. If you check videos of pro-players, don't expect that at all on lower leagues: people play cheap and cheese all the time. It's very annoying, you only fight dirty tricks until you reach gold/platinum league, and at that point you won't know what to expect and might lose interest in ladder play before you reach the leagues that play the fun Starcraft. Even the pros ragequit against cheesy play...

So yeah, all in all, I think it's a good game, but it suffers a lot mainly from their heads of design (Activision makes cheesy games nowadays). The graphics are insane though, and a remake of the older Starcraft with those would be incredible. In terms of custom games, if you like MOBA-style, Aeon of Storms is a great one, but don't expect too much there either.
