Do you expect to be thanked by the winner of your GA?
People who win games in group, whitelist or invite only GAs tend to have better social graces than those who win open GAs. At least, that has been my experience.

You have to admit it feels pretty good when someone tells you, "thank you" and you respond, "you're welcome". It's the little things ya know.
I also believe it's not only important to express gratitude but to feel it in all aspects of your life. Specially if you have been fortunate enough to have been blessed but not in the position to pass along the same blessings in equal measure.

I quite agree with what you said, but only when it is spontaneous and not required.
as an example, if I see someone in need and I can help, I help and I continue my way. if he thanked me, I will be happy, otherwise I will not regret having helped or force him to thank me.
a rough translation of a saying from my home: do good and forget, but never forget your bad action.

I get what you are saying but you are over generalizing. I'm not talking about in it in relation to every day life only in relation to winners of GAs.

What can I say... I'm happy when winner says thanks. But only if it's sincere, and not because winner is afraid of blacklist. And, actually, I'm even more happy if winner is happy about his gift, because, you know, that's the main reason I make giveaways for. If someone forgot to say thanks - well, it's his bad karma, not mine. Long story short - I don't really care about thanks.
What really annoys me - it when the user takes long not activating the game. It feels ungrateful and unfair, when I create a giveaway and user don't even care to take the prize. And I don't mean the situation when user is away. But right now one of my mass giveaways finished, and I see that some winners were online on SG after it finished, and some online even when I look, and they don't even care to claim their prize! WTF wrong with you, people? And, even worse - is when someone activates the game and forgets to mark as received. Everytime I have to contact those people and ask to mark giveaway as received I feel miserable. I mean, I bought a game, I made a giveaway, why should I worry about getting credits for it? Do I need this giveaway more then a winner?
I promised to myself not to blacklist people (well, apart from those few multi-account guys in my blacklist). But sometimes this promise is hard to keep.
Sorry for using your thread for letting the steam out, but when I started I couldn't stop.

Then people would get very mad when you don't say you're welcome and there the anti-pc rebels who are fighting the "thank-you/you're-welcome" people with the help of giant mole rats who only want peace for all of people-kind. Fucking brilliant!

It wasn't my intention to worry too much about that kind of thing, but then I got someone who won three games in one train without saying anything which felt a teeny bit bad. And then I got someone who won two games in one train and just blacklisted me which made me realise that there are worse things than just being ignored...

There is that but then again they are giving something away for free. Is there much more to say?

Public level 0 giveaways all the way because we were all level 0 at some point. And I don't really care about getting a thank you, but I really appreciate it if I do.

people are people except when they're bots and bots might be more prone to say thanks, actually shrug do things because they're what you want, expect nothing in return and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised
i used to think saying thanks was unnecessary - "it's not the person /giving/ the game to the winner, it is the giver deciding to give and leaving it to space cat to decide the lucky." i was quickly convinced otherwise and say thanks for every game i win and sometimes just for the chance, but perhaps that train of thought isn't completely wrong? not to try to make excuses for the ungrateful, but you know, to not be discouraged, one must contrive such... crap, for to console themselves

Anyways, don't feel bad, I'm not mad. I don't get mad.
I get even.
Yeah, this doesn't make you come off like an oversensitive psycho or anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh yeah I guess that doesn't come off as a joke. Sorry I'll fix it.
Edit: All fixed up. Sorry 'bout that. I should have known it would be taken as a negative unless I specified I was joking. After all how the hell would I get even. Blacklisting is kind of a joke anyways considering how many people are on this website. Not a psycho or anything. I do need more hair for my hair doll. Would you mind contributing?

You're right. We should get rid of the level system in SG also. No need for CV! Down CV, let us all be as leeches!

Tonight in Mystery Science Theater: The Planet Lacking Social Niceties! Oh, the horror! Watch amazed as multiple persons are jammed into a doorway because no one would let the other enter the door first! Hold your nose in disgust as the only place the people of the planet can pass gas is in crowded elevators and public transit! Be driven mad as you are stuck in traffic for endless hours while your turn signal is ignored by fellow commuters causing you to miss you exit again and again and again...

Do you thank the bus driver when they drive you to your destination? Do you thank the janitors for keeping public restrooms clean? What about the buser working 24/7 cleaning up other people's mess?
When you are given a gift, you are expected to say thanks. Other wise, it's bad manors. Since your expected to say it, you don't really mean it. There's been countless times where a person receives a gift and gifts it to someone else because they don't care of the item. Also, previously working at retail during the holidays, the majority of returns were "they didn't like/want" the gift. If it's the thought that counts, then you can find it on aisle 9 for a discounted price.

I think the examples you gave are quite bad. Those people are working and they get paid for their job. Contributors here are not working. They are giving gifts. Here people are not forced to enter giveaways either. You enter if you wish to win the item. Hence, it is understandable to assume that the winner wished for that gift. Unless one is using bot.

Doesn't mean that someone else would not want them. Being bundled doesn't make a game bad. There are plenty of good games in bundles. Also, people are giving unbundled games and some the winners still say nothing.

You called them unwanted and not actual games. I interpret those as statements regarding of quality. I somewhat understand your viewpoint but simply disagree with it. In the end, it is each's personal decision how they will respond to winning a gift.

Ironically, whoever doesn't bother thanking most certainly won't bother browse the forum let along read your thread at all.

Just do it.. because you want to..
You'll never get the expected response that you are..expecting.. from everyone.
But Karma is nice ;)

You're right. I aught not expect people I have given a game to express any kind of gratitude at all. I'll keep working towards that.

It would be nice and gives more of a satisaction that you did something good.. but it won't come everytime. I do it for me, "selfish" I know.. to feel good that I've given something to someone. Now who gets what is out of my hands so I try to be content at my actions and not to anticipate a reaction. That's how I see it..

When people sent me the game through e-mail or steam adding, I made sure to thank them, since I felt it was more personal and therefore more sincere that way.
When the website introduced the new key mechanic, eliminating the need for interaction between the winner and the creator, I kinda stopped saying thanks. It was only when I saw threads about people pointing out how rude it was for the winner not to say anything, I started leaving comments on the giveaways I won after receiving the game.
So if I happened to win one of your giveaways during the period in which I was just mindlessly copypasting the keys, I'm sorry, and know I really appreciate whatever it is I won.

As long as my GA winners get their game and I get my CV, all is right with the world.
And what JinoStar said.

Well, you can't ask for someone to mean what they say but you can certainly ask them to say what they mean.

Those MuthaFukinPRicks.
All jokes aside, that really sucks on their part. No level public GA's are always dangerous territory to tread in. :/
Keep your head up though, Rick. There are plenty of us who appreciate users like yourself and are grateful for you! :)

Thanks man, I know we've all been there just wanted to joke and vent a little.

I accept it when it's given, but I'm not heartbroken if not. It's a shame when people aren't grateful. I don't particularly care if it's a dollar or two, but receiving a $25+ game for free warrants at least some gratitude.
Me, I always make a heartfelt thank you post and +1 their Steam profile in the comments. It's the least I can do. Technically the least is nothing, but you know what I mean.
Comment has been collapsed.
The least you can do is nothing but if you do nothing you are not doing the least you are doing nothing. Doing the least of something assumes something will be done. So yeah, I agree with you...I think.

It doesn't bother me so much I want to do extra work.

It's always nice to get a "thanks" and I always appreciate them even if I don't reply to the comment, but I don't BL if someone doesn't thank me. At least I get the feeling that this way a "thank you" is at least somewhat sincere and not because of fear of a blacklist.

But what if they are really busy winning too many GAs and need some relief? I'm just trying to help out!

Just created 10 GAs this past weekend. I ended up opening them up to the general public. No restrictions so there is really no excuse. Out of the 10 only 4 have not yet been received. That means at least six people out there are simply too busy winning games to take a few moments to thank the creator for winning the game. I understand, you folks just need a little help. You are winning too much and just don't have time to say thank you after winning. To ease the burden a bit, I'll be blacklisting everyone who won my GAs but is too busy to say thank you. See, now you'll have less GAs to enter so you might have more time to show gratitude after winning a free game.
I really don't care if someone says thank you when entering the GA. There are hundreds of GAs so thank you starts to sound real hollow when entering but when you win you should take the time to thank the GA creator for giving you the game you just won. I've been discouraged from making GAs which are open to all. This is one of the reasons why. It's too bad lower level members of this website are getting such a bad rap but it is what it is. This will likely be one of the last open GAs I make, unless I do by mistake. Anyways, don't feel bad, I'm not mad. I don't get mad.
I get even. :) <----- This is said tongue firmly in cheek, in case of any confusion. I also wish to add that I don't really believe that you have to ask yourself if you need to be grateful if you are Pikachu. Pikachu don't care!
