Honestly, what percentage of your games do you buy for steam but off of the Steam Sales page? (I'm about 80% off steam purchase of steam games.

I bought Trine Complete, Giana Sisters and Super Meat Boy recently on a Daily Deal, each one cost me less than 3€. But most of my games on Steam are from bundles. Earlier I was buying games in boxes and I'm still used to that kind of getting new games ;)

Trine was a great deal, the other 2 i would consider average products tho i've heard good things about SMB.

You would consider Super Meat Boy to be an average product without even playing it? Fascinating. It's considered one of the great indie games.

I did say that my rating was without playing it, while adding that i've heard good things, you're allowed to judge a book by it's cover if you honestly admit you haven't read it. When i call a game i havent played an average game, it means it doesnt have enough appeal for me to even buy and play it.

Have you ever seen something on a menu and said no i dont want to try that? (That's called a poor offering, or an average game)

I have no interest in playing plenty of games, but I don't automatically list them as average. I think Halo is rather dull, but I'm well aware of the fact that it's a well-regarded series by critic and player alike, so I would tell someone they're likely good games, even though I have no interest. Either way, I also have no interest in arguing too much about this...

If it's about Super Meat Boy, I bought it after playing Meat Boy from The Basement Collection. I was fascinated how a good platformer the game is. And when the Daily Deal for Super Meat Boy showed up, there was no hesitation for me. Next thing I was happy to do, was watching Indie Game - The Movie, where was a story of creators of the game and it showed how much effort it costed them to write and publish the game. Well-spent money and I would buy it again even without a sale :)

I'd say Giana Sisters is a very good platformer, definitely above average.

I dont remember anything from last week, but i'm happy to allow exceptions, i'm not saying they NEVER have anything good on sale, i'm saying 90% of the time it's uninteresting. (allowing for personal gaming interests we'll say that = 75%)

I tend to look at the spotlight nowadays, but every now and then you get a nice little gem in the daily box.

This is my point, that makes it not a daily deal, but more like a weekly or less.

Well it is still a daily deal, just because you aren't interested/don't buy it doesn't change the fact that it is a deal...

I agree i just wish there were more games that were appealing dealed, i'm not disagreeing that they make deals, i'm disagreeing that there is a point on making the Daily Deal do 75% off on Day Z because noone has any interest.

Exactly what i'm talking about, with GamersGate, GreenManGaming, GetLoaded, HumbleBundle, Groupees (The last two i'm talking about the bundles with decent games not the shotgun fodder of random indie crap) Amazon sales, GameFly they are getting blown away.

What i dont get is how they can allow all these competing sales for steam keys, but cant match up in their own sales end.

Smells like an oil conspiracy to me, (here you guys have the good prices this week, we'll do next week, that way the people all think theyr always getting deals, meanwhile we always get the money we want.)

Of course they need to give Steam a cut. They are partners, not competitors.
This summer, Steam actually let its partners to do their summer sales first.

Before and after the summer sale there was some games on daily deal which were actually cheaper than the summer sale price. (Angry Birds Space, Giana Sisters, Trine Series, Containment: The Zombie Puzzler) It's worth checking imo.

I still check it every day, i'm just massively dissapointed the majority of the time.

Just check the Specials tab, there's often great deals there which aren't advertised up in the Spotlight with daily deals and such. Although the biggest discount you'll likely see will be 75%... which isn't bad at all, especially when there's a new discount that good every day/week/month.

Errr, ism't that just getting used to things? And the more games you buy, the less chance you'll find something you want on sale.

I often feel the same way, but there's someone out there for each Daily Deal. Every day, someone checks it and becomes crazily ecstatic over the day's offering. It's not always gonna be for you, but that's just how life is. We have to accept that as human beings and not be selfish.

Daily deals have some less popular games with bigger discounts than they have during sales, at least sometimes. Those less popular games don't get featured during the big sales, so daily deals are in a way the best Steam deals.

setp? Also, if you're saying "it doesn't need to be mentioned that this is an opinion because it's obvious" I can argue that your title is a rhetorical question which assumes everyone else thinks the same way.

It was never something to be looked at. Ever since it was implemented, it was just shitty games that don't sell well being given random (usually 75% off) offers.

At least now they mix it up a bit with the odd not-complete-shit game being added to the mix every few weeks.

That is 100% untrue, I've bought some insane steals there, Rome Total War for 1 dollar, and many others

To put more of my 2 cents in, just bought today's Daily Deal contrary to LSD because i think it's great, and btw this would be a great set of games for an insanely low price. So they can still get it right.

The problem is not that the sales are getting worse (I don't think they are); but the fact that we're so used to extreme sales that even 75 % off isn't that good a deal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I disagree, i think 75% is great i'm even happy with 50% I just dont like most of the games that go on sale anymore.

I'm not one of those who thinks all games should be in bundles where we pay pennies on the dollar, i'm happy to pay game production companies, hell i've bought Morrowind 7 times with different copies drms and dlcs, it's not about the cost, it's about the product.

Thats the type of thing i'm talking about, when it wasnt let's use a dartboard and blindfold to pick a deal, but they Daily Dealed games that the community wanted, what i would LOVE is if they gave us the community choice and we could pick the daily deals.

I would actually love it if they let us choose between 3 games or more. Some of the deals are aren't that good. The only daily deals I bought so far was super meat boy, batman arkham city, and I think terraria was there and, if I get money I might get the fallout collection.
Also I love how the daily deal is Thomas Was Alone when it was just in the humble weekly bundle
