I enjoyed both - they're both worthy of being played, trust me! I really enjoyed Fallout 3 because there were much more aspects of playing in destroyed cities which I enjoyed but Fallout NV was awesome in itself but I didn't enjoy the setting of the game as much.

Both amazing games, I'd probably say NV is better mainly due to it being a slightly more polished game, I didn't like either stories that much, nothing else really stood out apart from slight improvements over all aspects of the game from Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 GOTY had some insane glitches (at least on the Ps3), yes I'm looking at you Operation Anchorage.

I honestly liked both equally, Fallout New Vegas seemed a bit harder in the beginning though, probably due to the fact it was made by the original producers of Fallout 1 and 2. I've never actually played Fallout 1 & 2; I probably should though one day.

" Fallout New Vegas seemed a bit harder in the beginning though"
FO3 is harder. Your first journey starting with a baseball bat and a gun with almost zero ammo. It takes some time to get proper gun and ammos until you reach level 5 or something..

I've never done DLC from NV, but based on the basic game i'd say Fallout 3 is better (imo)

I love Fallout 3. I liked Fallout 1, but for me freeform exploration is where it's at.

That being said, i've found New Vegas to be a shitty excuse for a nostalgia trip, with the devs relying way too much on stuff from Fallout 2 (Which I also hated compared to FO1). I mean really - Hey look, we have this dude from Fallout 2! And the old music being out of place and poorly reused all the time! Not to mention the plot failed to drag me in, and nearly every character annoyed the hell out of me. Everything in NV was such a blow, especially the biggest dissappointment of them all - The Strip. Ugh

I prefer fallout 3 myself. almost every change from new vegas has a mod equivalent in fallout 3. ADS? Rh_ironsights. etc. Also Fallout 3 has more large and finished mods. For me The whole damage threshold thing was annoying in nv, and the mohave felt really empty. The story might have been better, but story doesn't excuse a lack of gameplay. Also nv was ridiculously unstable, and still is. But that would be bethsoft/zenimax's fault, not obsidian's, Because the gamebryo engine has always been messed up

I enjoyed them both but I prefer F3 without the broken steel dlc.
The ending of the base game was amazing but broken steel made it terrible.
I also didn't like the NV desert.

New Vegas, definitely New Vegas. The story was better, the world felt like it was connected, the DLC didn't add stupid shit like unarmored hill billies who are stronger then deathclaws or a deathclaw somehow going to Megaton, and it just felt more satisfying to do quests and such since any choices you have, unlike 3, don't boil down to "Am I saint today or an evil douche bag for no reason or additional reward"

Oh yes and the main story doesn't just assume you deal with Benny for shooting you, you can just go to New Vegas to work for the NCR or something and finish, unlike 3 where it just assumes every character will want to go after the dad no one playing has any reason to care about at all.

Oh and the Brotherhood of Steel actually being the fucking Brotherhood of Steel instead of generic goodguypaladingrouo #5 or the super mutants want ot make more super mutants because......oh yeah nothing. They were also pretty much orcs instead of having more then a handful actually being smart.

The one thing that bothered me about 3 was the super mutants, I loved the smart mutants from Fallout 1, especially The Lieutenant, his voice sounds so evil :)

Have to agree with the people who consider NV to be the better game. The gameplay was considerably improved and the storyline more coherent, albeit a bit short. Even though I had 300+ hours put into Fallout 3, I enjoyed New Vegas a lot more.

Fallout 3 is very intriguing with a great story really recommend you get the goty considering it is cheap on sales and its really fun!
While Fallout New Vegas has a less interesting piece of land but it has much room for mods which is good, and with mods they can make FNV seem more real beside of Fallout 3 but to start out you should pick fallout 3 which also has mods and has a good story.

What part of 3s story was good? Besides Fawkes.

Well the starting and end but there are somethings in the middle that were not so good but fallout had more bad parts than Fo3 but really if you don't want to ruin the series play fo3 first before nv. Which another thing is the exploring is great finding some random vaults then finding maybe the Tenpenny castle which was a nice place.

None of the areas seem to be connected though, and how would playing 3 first ruin the series? New Vegas was closer to the first 2 games while 3 is odd one out for the series, not counting those 2 spin offs.

In no way did I say Fo3 would ruin it. I said FNV could ruin the series for you, ofcourse if you haven't ever played FO.

" and how would playing 3 first ruin the series" So apparently here you are saying that I said playing fo3 first would ruin the series I did not say that fo3 would I said FNV = Fallout NEW VEGAS "could" ruin the series for people.

That makes even LESS sense, due to New Vegas being closer to being an actual Fallout game then 3 was.

Yet I am saying this to people that are just now getting inot fallout, ti start with fo3.

WHY. Fallout 3 is the least fallout like game except for Tactics or Brotherhood of Steel, if your getting started with the series it makes sense to start with either 1, 2, or New Vegas.

I enjoy the humor and writing in New Vegas more than Fallout 3. It's more in line with the older games, specifically Fallout 2, which is still my favorite of the series.

The setting was pretty much the only thing I liked about FO3 over NV, but that's just personal preference. NV improved on just about every aspect although the world did feel a bit more empty to me.

Base game : both are amazing. Wish NV had super mutants but overall prefer NV more i think

With Mods : NV without a doubt - Project nevada (+ some fixes for wepon modifying and enhanced energy weapon visuals) made this game clutch. I seriously recommend project nevada, the Helmet Hud alone Makes it amazing.

Check Blackrock Mountain for the super mutants, or do the quest Come Fly With Me.

Would have to reinstall the game, but dont quite recall there being any. (by super mutants, im implying the super HUGE mutants that were in fallout 3 that when you first see (one being main quest related) you think "holy shit"

NV, clearly, it's better in every single aspect. F3's writing was absolutely horrendous, most of the lines seemed to have been written by 3 year olds. It does have some interesting content, but the level design is really bad, compared to NV's almost constant genius.

For me it's no contest. Fallout 3 is amazong. Fallout NV is great but lacks a lot of the charm and the decisions.
Theres no reason to explore in NV - You can complete the game by visiting less than 1/4 of the map. I loved just roaming around in FO3, finding new places.

Fallout 3 was a great game...It had issues and to me the story and even the general setting did not quite meld with what the originals put forward. Alot of the missions and quests were sometimes exceptionally dull and very limited in scope. The DLCs for FO3 were good though and I did enjoy Point Lookout very much.

That being said, NV just fit the game universe more in my eyes. There may not have been enough to do for some people but I have had a great time with it. The writing and character interactions were better and the game felt more solid. Maybe with it being in a smaller area, meant they could actually work on more fluff aspects of story then fill in map space with pointless buildings or caves etc etc.

I like finding out of the way stuff...But still. I like there to be something to it when I find it (even if it is just a couple of caps, broken weapon and a skeleton next to a voice log).
