So, it has been some time since I've last posted anything in the discussion, so I've kind of lost track of what's happening on SG.
Mostly been entering public GAs and making public GAs - not too much time for anything else.

But it's time for an occasional train and I got right the occasion earlier this week.
It's been around a year since the thing was kind of sealed, but now it's official - I have a reason to change my username to dr. m139 unfortunately I can't. Not an actual doctor though.

So here is a short train to celebrate the thing.
Has bundled and unbundled, keys and gifts stuff mixed up, no particular order. All gibs are level 1+.

Too many "thanks" in the gibs are not really welcome unless you do it in a funny/witty way.
I won't blacklist you though.

Pic related.

Congratulations! What did you get the degree in?

Basically, physics. Although the degree doesn't say anything other than "Doctor of Philosophy" and the thesis title.

Congratulations. Are you willing to elaborate on the subject of your thesis?

Developing some fancy methods of measuring self-diffusion with nuclear magnetic resonance.
Disclaimer: The actual thesis title might differ to the statement above.

Something with nice real world applications :)

AFAIK you do particle physics, so, I guess, you have a point here, but nevertheless

You sir have my respect for understanding physics. I'm second year student and I barely get through my physics exam in the first year. :)

Well, what is your major?
What is "first year physics" (like, the education programs differ so much country-to-country)?

I'm studying Telematics and one of the subjects was basic physics. Only optics and electricity

Well, "optics and electricity" are still to brad to tell what the test could have been about.
Good luck in your studies though. I have hardly an idea what Telematics is about...

Something mixed up there :)
I've done astronomical research, but switch to teaching highschool students a couple of years ago (better paid).
I learned plenty of particle physics during my university days, as some of my professors were/are involved in the trigger development for the ATLAS detector at the LHC.
Edit: "Real world" like in something that might directly help lots of people. Many research fields in physics yield real world stuff only as by-product.

Ah, ok. Got something confused then.
You know, Australia is kind of proud of their astronomical research leading to the invention of Wi-Fi (a refuted claim, though), also - many image processing methods stem from astronomical research. That's quite a number of real-world applications helping people around.

Some research in physics may not yield things that help people even if it's directly aimed at it :(
