Play ANY Android Game on your PC!

Edit: I will be posting another discussion discussing the alternatives to BlueStacks, and talking about the benefits of them. I will also be explaining how to install these programs, for those of you that may be having difficulties. I'll post this before the 28th of October!

Recently I was able to log-on to my old Simpson's Tapped Out account on my phone, and I had a craving to play it on a bigger screen. I had no tablet, so I was looking to find a different alternative. I remembered that about a year ago, I had used this app to try and play Clash of Clans on my computer. After trying to set things up, I failed and decided it took too much time to watch yet another YouTube video on how to set this thing up. Yesterday, I downloaded the same app and spent 3 hours trying to download The Simpsons Tapped Out on my PC. However, it finally worked and I realized where I had went wrong. It only takes about 15 minutes to start playing App Store games on your computer

I decided that I wanted to share the steps of how to set this up, because I know that I'm not the only one who plays a game or two on my mobile device! Follow these simple steps, and you should be able to download any game using the Google Play store on the Bluestacks browser!

  1. Download BlueStacks
    • Once download is finished, double-click the app and run it
    • It will pop-up a installation or download window again, let it finish and then it should leave you waiting at a home-screen type place. If it takes forever to load this home-screen, exit the app and open it again.
  2. It will ask you to sign-in with your gmail
    • Sign-in with your Google Account, and if you don't have one you can create one here
    • It will ask you for some other quick information, possibly the time and date (as if you were setiting up a tablet)
  3. After typing in the information, you should find yourself at the BlueStacks home page looking something like this (screenshot uploaded @ bottom)
  4. Double-Click the Google App Store, this should open the app store allowing you to download any game to your "tablet".
    • Find the game you want to download, and click download it! I recommend signing into a new Google Account when downloading a game, because I had a lot of error codes trying to download things that I already had on another system. (you most likely wont have these errors, if you do contact me and we will fix it together)
  5. You will get a notification at the top of the window, this will inform you that you have started installing a game, after the game is done installing go back to the home screen and look under "All Apps" or "My Apps" and the game will show up there!

If you have followed the instructions and get errors, please contact me and I will help you fix it! I would hate for you guys to have to go what I went through xD

It's pointless extra work for those of us who don't have a smartphone and have to use the Desktop Authenticator.

You're still validating that you have an authorized device, given that use of an emulator/authenticator on an unauthorized computer would send authorization requests to your phone before anyone was allowed access. So it's still serving as two-factor security (correct client login+authorized confirmation device), so it's really no different than using a smartphone.

Means it isn't technically "pointless extra work"- Not going to argue that it's not a hassle, though.

So why does Valve disagree? They specifically state in their justification for the damn thing that they chose not to allow any form of official desktop authentication because they claim that makes it too easy to get both the account and the authenticator compromised at the same time because they're on the same machine.

If they'd used something like the unofficial emulated authenticators, I'd have no problem with it. A phone of some kind really is something pretty much everyone already has. But to expect me to buy a smartphone for their shit is little different from the asshole publishers who put online-only DRM on their games and claim "Everyone has 24-hour broadband, so it's okay!"

Perhaps the most infuriating thing is that their FAQ for the mobile authenticator has this little gem: "I don't have a phone. Can I still use the mobile authenticator?" I mean, come on! Are they that detached from reality? What sort of sequestered community do they all live in where every phone is a smartphone?!

I'm just approaching the mechanical angle of how we consumers end up having to approach it.

You're not readily going to find me arguing on behalf of Valve or their policies, in any context.
Keep in mind I've griped pretty strongly on the topic of their smartphone validation approach, myself.

Are they that detached from reality?

Yes.

It is really stupid to assume EVERYONE has phones, but they're just trying to make everyone's accounts more secure.

It's for trading. If you don't trade, you don't need to use it (or, more likely, an emulator).

MEmu is better, but for that particular game I suppose any Android emulator works well.

I used this for Dragon Ball Dokken, but the music is all scratchy. Am I missing something?

There could be multiple reasons: drivers, configuration and even the Android version. MEmu can create virtual machines of Android 4.2, 4.4 and 5.1, you could try another version, update your Windows sound drivers...

I installed that game and it uses a lot of CPU, it's pretty bad optimised, you should configure MEmu to use 4 cores instead of 2 (default).

Wow, that program looks a lot smoother. I guess I'll just stick with the one I have now, I'll only use it for a few tycoon games anyways.

It's been about two years since i tried BlueStacks and it was terrible, loads of processes running always even when you don't use bluestacks and tons of aps regulary installing.

Andyroid on the other hand... there's were it's at.

Both Bluestacks and Andy have functioned rather awfully for me. Andy ended up being unstable, poorly optimized, and didn't run apps consistently. It also force-downloads its apps (as often as Bluestacks offers them) which causes a lot of issues. Bluestacks had its own share of quirks (I last referred to it as being "clunky, buggy, poorly optimized, junky"), but I don't recall it being near as bad as Andy is. :X
At the very least, Bluestacks seems to run apps far more consistently, crash less, use less system resources, and not mess itself up with poorly managed auto-installs. I'd take it over Andy any day.. y'know, if a certain update hadn't broken it completely, and still seems to have not gotten fixed. :P

If it's working better for you than it did for me, by all means. But personally, I'm glad the topic of alternate emulators has come up again. ^.^

CNET reviews put Bluestacks at 3/10 stars, and Andyroid at 2/10. I find those to be fair ratings. :P

It's good for me, but I only use it for this one game, other "players" in this field such as orono obviously know good programs. If you want to give it another try, go ahead and use the emulator that he/she has recommended I believe it was called MEmu.

Wouldn't surprise me. I only got malware off of Andy, but both programs don't seem to vet their promotional apps at all. :X

They do seem to beg for that extra download from us, especially because they are making us install a whole separate program just to un-install BlueStacks as it is....

Better option would be to buy chromecast and mirror your phone on the TV no need to install anyrhing and no authentication required.

That's good, however, some people aren't able to afford the $35, or would rather just not.

I was thinking about doing that at some point, but dropped the idea.

I agree however there are cheaper options available as well for casting purpose.

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, to mimic emulation, you'd need both a tablet and a smartphone. That'd run you a bit more'n $35. :X
Not sure what the point of mirroring the phone on the TV is, since the entire point of emulation is either to avoid purchasing mobile devices in the first place, or to be able to benefit from the options available on a PC.

The only real problem I had when trying out android emulators on the pc was getting a gamepad to work without any problems. I have both an xbox 360 and steam one but just couldn't get them to work. Had no problems with Bluestacks for the most part. Amiduos was another emulator but never tried it out.
