We all know the "Steam way" is to purchase excessive amounts of games at rock bottom prices and never actually get around to playing them. I'm guilty of it, for sure... and I'm guessing most of us probably are.

That being said... I have an issue where a game piques my interest, I'll install it, get reasonably far, start getting bored and then think of a different game to play somewhere throughout my 8 hour work day. A vicious cycle. Depending on Steam Cloud support and my current achievement progress, most games wind up remaining installed too out of fear of losing it.

This leaves many unplayed games installed on my PC (which has more than enough hard drive space to support it).

Leading to another unintended issue, of making it WAY too easy to jump from game to game... and my ADD takes over... and I accomplish nothing.

...

Anyways, long story short... how many games do you have actually installed at this moment in time? Could be games you finished and never bothered uninstalling, or perhaps you're like me and jump around too frequently leaving an excessive number of installed games in your wake.

My magic number is 53... and that's after a cleanup a month or two ago. Maybe I'm due for another.

140/1156, not a bad number but I need to free up some space, I filled up my first external drive and I'm burning through my second dangerously fast. Of course, that's Steam only, so the actual number is probably at least another hundred higher.

I have neither of your reasons. I simply want to be able to play any game at any time, if need be. However, I was running out of space at some point so I went on an uninstalling frenzy. 438/1789.

Desktop: No clue. It's not connected right now (we moved, a lot of stuff isn't hooked yet). I'd guess 50-100.

Nexus 7, 72 games including kid games and demos.

HTPC (not connected either), at least 6 (might be a couple more I'm forgetting):

  • Lego Star Wars
  • Lego Lord of the Rings
  • Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes
  • Scribblenauts Unlimited
  • Castle of Illusion

Windows tablet, 2:

  • Yesterday
  • Shadowrun Returns

Phone, 2:

  • Hot Air (will probably uninstall)
  • Quest Lord

16 games installed but I'm too lazy to delete them. Actually I'm playing just 2 games (Chivalry and CK2) all the time, got ETS2 on sale (and it's awesome as my girlfriend's butt) so now it's 3. Not feeling guilty at all. Am I a monster?

Like 108/110 ?
I am not very guilty of not playing every game I own, for some, yes

But I think I've played 86-94% of my games.
Most games I haven't played were purchased during the summer sale and I don't have enough time to play all those games I got xD

24 out of 928. I usually only focus on 2 or 3 game at a time and when I'm done with it I uninstal it. I also have some games instaled that don't support steam cloud which I plan to hunt some achivements in later. And the rest are just the games I will be playing after I'm done with the ones I'm playing atm.

If I install more than a few games, then they slow dramatically.....how come I seem to be the only one here with this problem?

So everyone else on this topic page can install 10+ games without any slowdowns during gameplay?!?!

It depends on a lot of factors. More than likely your hard drive is getting close to full and since some of that space is used as virtual memory as you get closer to full the more likely you are to run into slowdowns.

Other potential things that could cause it are issues with your RAM or HDD, malware, a lot of stuff running which requires more memory.
