Hey guys!

So for whatever reason, my dumb self decided that my Logitech G610 is the perfect place for a big splash of Fanta. Needless to say, it doesn't work properly anymore. Sadly, Logitech doesn't make them anymore, so I have to look for something else.

Whilst googling, I found the Logitech G815, which seems pretty nice. It's even down to 130€ (From prev. 200€) on Amazon.

Or do you guys have something better in mind?

  • Must be mechanical
  • Must have Brown switches
  • Must be cabled
  • Must have exclusive media control buttons
  • Must NOT be "circumsized" (e.g. TKL keyboards, etc.)

I don't care about RGB and all that.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best regards

Warning, eventually all/most leds will die out on you eventually, no matter the brand, no matter the model as most keys come from the same factories.(just google any brand you have your eyes on and put dead led/rgb next to it, i couldn't do it with my G815 because at the time i bought it, it was still too new).

I just returned my G815 because of 7 dead (partial) leds (and will get a replacement under warranty, but what else can you get, led is just the trend these days), this is my second Logitech keyboard i returned because of that reason.
I don't mind having to change colour scheme, but a totally dead key is not acceptable for me.
The whole keyboard is pretty much black with leds out, which makes it hard to use as a normal keyboard, making you type blind, big flaw.

You were actually lucky to have had one of Logitech's last ones without led.

For the rest it's a fine keyboard though.

Interesting, LEDs from my limited experience have long life.
What I've seen is the chips that drive the LEDs are prone to failure and you have banks or lines of LEDs that go out. LEDs are still good, theyre just not getting a signal or power.

I've got my roccat mk glow since 7 years. Not a single LED died so far.

I've had the G815 for over a year and I really like it, except for the G keys on the left which I have completed deactivated (too much confusion with the ctrl / shift / tab keys when not looking).
I've had no technical issues with it and the automatic color scheme switch between programs is a really neat feature.

Ah yeah I'm also kinda worried about that. Does it happen often that you "miss" CTRL/SHIFT/etc.?

Very often. Even after a year, I'm still looking for "that key in the corner" (CTRL) and you can be sure I'll hit the G5 key ever other time. Fortunately, it doesn't do anything now so I just move my hand back to the right key. I "mispress" the other keys much less often.
However, I never hit the wrong keys when I'm typing or playing a game so it really depends on how you use the keyboard and how fast you can adapt to a new one.

With the list you have for requirements the Logitech G815 is in my opinion your best option.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite with Orange switches is a really good option if you don't want to go with the G815. The Razer Orange switches are the equivalent of the Cherry MX Brown.

You're welcome.

What do you use for mouse? And headset, if you use one?

An MX518 on a Logitech G440 mouse pad.
Oh and my headset is a cheap G430.

Extremely happy with my mouse and pad (Actually, I rarely ever used a different mouse than the MX518), but I think I wanna upgrade my headset to a G635 soon.

If you ever need a new mouse, Logitech G Pro Wireless Gaming mouse is really recommended.

I have this as a mouse pad, has 3mm thick aircraft-grade aluminum. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Gaming-Mousepads/Micro-Textured-Hard-Surface-Mousepads/MM600-Dual-Sided-Aluminum-Gaming-Mouse-Pad/p/CH-9000104-WW

I'm pretty sure I'll never switch to another mouse. The MX518 fits my hand perfectly. My love for that thing even goes that far as that I bought one for 120€ back when Logitech stopped selling it and I needed a replacement. :D

I'll take a look at the mouse pad tho, thanks!

I've tried a bunch of mouse pads and the best one I've come across was the Steelseries QCK Heavy Cloth Gaming Mouse Pad. I've bought several for gifts over the years. The medium one is only $15 and the one I use on my PC.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of cloth pads, tho. Either plastic or aluminum for me.

Not bought a bulk to be set for life? :p Suppose you had 2 more fanta spills (i had many spills in the past too) i found as long as i keep my drinks to the right side it stays safe (knocks on wood).
Okay maybe i had 1 or 2 spills when i had this combo but i was lucky enough it just missed them (hard mousepad certainly does help too).

1 side i found to be a bit gritty, but the other side is as smooth as a baby's bottom, so to say.

The Logitech G Pro X is a really solid choice for an headset upgrade. Not sure if it's on sale on Amazon where you're at, but here in the USA it's showing it is.

I have a G710+ and other Logitech peripherals and all of them have given me problems early on. I've had to replace both the keyboard and the headset within the warranty period, and both replacements and my mouse began to give me problems pretty much as soon as warranty expired. Maybe I just have the worst luck in the world but I'm not sure I'll be buying Logitech again any time soon.

That said, when their stuff works as it should, it's pretty great, and the G710+ is no exception. And for some reason their old stuff seems to be pretty much unbreakable; I have a ~15-year-old MX518 that I use as backup mouse and on secondary machines and I used it for over a decade before it even began to show any issues.

I still cry at night over my 710+ that I killed by spilling water over it... I could, hands down, vote for it and for Logitech support

I've had a few close calls, but so far I've managed to avoid spilling liquid. Just annoying-to-clean (but dry) yerba mate, like in the pic, but cut way thinner:

Oh wow, the G710+. This is the first mechanical keyboard I had and I knew I would never go back to a regular keyboard again. I ended up getting bunch of different keyboards after that one and I still have it in my closet in the box, it's like new. Awesome keyboard :)

Yeah, once you go mechanical you never go back. Not one day goes by when my poor fingers don't thank me for the decision to go mechanical. :D

After trying Corsair keyboards, I won't buy Logitech anymore. Their quality has been going downhill for years. I even moved away from their mouse products and switched to using a Corsair mouse (Dark Core RGB and a Glaive) as well. Corsair products are just made better.

I dumped an entire can of Coke on my K70 a couple years ago, and thought it was dead. On a whim, I tossed it in the shower and ran hot water over it for several minutes, then let it dry a few days. It works like the day I bought it. I recently switched to the Corsair K70 MK.2 Cherry MX Red (also comes in brown) and this thing is built to last. You can feel the quality in the weight alone. It also has all the features you're looking for.

Thanks for saying this! I also have a Corsair K70 and I hope it will last several years!
I bought it a couple years ago and fell in love with it (earlier I had a cheap dirty dusty 15 years old generic keyboard). As soon as I opened the package, I could feel the quality of the product. It's quite heavy and very solid, the surface is very good-looking, and has the volume wheel and all media buttons. I got it with red switches as well, I think I would have preferred brown ones, but it was sold out.
Last year I also bought a new, second-hand pc. The guy who sold it to me tossed his keyboard and mouse in for additional 50€. The mouse was a nice Logitech G502 Hero and the keyboard was an excellent SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL. The keyboard is amazing and feels much better than the Corsair one, but the TKL layout kills it. I know it's designed for gaming, but I need the numpad, and also the print key is absent!
That's why I still use my Corsair keyboard on my main pc, and the SteelSeries one on my old pc. My mom hates me because it has english layout and she doesn't find special keys, ahah, but I mean... after like 30 years using pc at work, do you still need to see where keys are? ò.ò

I run the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum. It is a beastly, dead-accurate keyboard. You can get it with whatever switches you want (I went with Brown, myself 😎👍).

Highly programmable, and the volume roller on it is something that I've found to be really convenient. Keys are raised, not inset, so it's very easy to clean. Wrist rest come with a "flippable" surface, so you can determine the amount of friction you'd like there. It also comes with extra WASD keys, you if you'd like to use a set with nubbies on it (for better friction during gaming) you can...or just choose standard keys there. Keyboard body is brushed aluminum, so you'd have to hit it with a mini-sledge to damage it. Great, great keyboard.

Corsair puts out some really solid products, the K95 is definitely up there. This keyboard felt pretty good and pretty similar to a few Logitech keyboards I love. The only reason I wouldn't recommend it above Logitech or Razer is the Cherry MX switches don't feel as good to me as Logitech's Romer G Tactiles or Razer's Orange switches. They aren't that far off from Razers, but Logitech's Romer G Tactiles just feel way better than both.

When it comes to RAM I've gone with Corsair for awhile now. The Vengeance and Dominator series I definitely recommend.

Yeah, I've gone Corsair for keyboard, DDR4, and liquid cooling now. I was running a Corsair mouse (Ironclaw gen 2 wireless), but after the mouse wheel broke for the second time under normal use (it's a design flaw), I switched back over to Razer @20K DPI and haven't looked back. Too bad...I liked the Corsair mouse and it fit my relatively large hands, but it just didn't have any durability at all.

The K95 keyboard series is a whole different animal, though. This thing is built like you could drop it down five flights of stairs and it would just laugh it off. I was mostly a Logitech keyboard guy as well before this...but after having a couple fail in what I thought were short time periods for premium keyboards, I decided to give Corsair a go despite the fact that, other than the reliability issues, I really liked the Logitech keyboards.

well, recently i bought some cheap mechanical keyboards (aukey km-g12 ... got these things for 15€ and sharkoon sgk30 for myself for 42€) and really ... i an not that enthusiastic and if i saw the aukey earlier i had immeadiatley bought it for myself. i would have said take the sharkoon skiller sgk60 and set your own shortcuts or if money is no object take the das keyboard 4

I was going to say the Corsair K60 seems pretty good, but it has Cherry Viola switches not Brown. Sounds like you have a healthy budget though so I believe the K70 or K95 have options with Brown switches. The downside is the iCue software isn't brilliant and takes a lot of space.
There are also some very nice Razer products out there like the BlackWidow Elite - I believe their Orange switch is similar to Brown? Honestly I quite like the Violas, but if money was no issue I'd have gone with Razer since their products seem pretty solid.

Personally I'd avoid Logitech since the mechanical keyboard I had broke within a matter of months then got progressively worse. No spillages or accidents, but first the power was dropping out with the cable in certain positions, then the keys just started to snap off. I'd heard RomerG switches were better than that, but they wouldn't affect the power anyway so I'd say overall it was just really bad build quality, especially considering it's usual pricing.

Bump simply for your use of "circumsized" when referring to smaller keyboard layouts. Made me spit out my coffee!

For pre made mechanical keyboard, I always recommend Filco, Ducky, Varmilo and Keychron as they sell good quality keyboard at a fair price.

In view of media control buttons, those gaming brands like Logitech G and Corsair would be your choice.

Logitech G815 / Corsair K70 seems nice, but honestly, listening to others’ opinions or reading reviews are not enough, you better try out the keyboards physically before purchase.
