I have always been called "the calmest guy alive" by friends & family, many, many times. But now I'm pissed off! I had to see my doctor after being in a car accident this afternoon... I have whiplash and if I get more complaints, probably a concussion too (I doubt it because I know how it feels from previous ones before)

So what happened: I was driving at a fairly small oneway street with speed limit of 50km/h and there was a car driving before mine. The car steers to the right side without using a turn signal and stops. So now I am stopped 4-5 meters away from the other cars rear. Suddenly I see the reverse light of the car light up and the car drives in reverse, I sound my horn but it's to late. She hits the front of my car. The driver of the other car steps out and comes to my window. I lower it down and she says, "How are we going to handle this because I need to go and don't have time for this sh*t. I tell her that we will fill out insurance papers. She says I have to hurry or she's gone and it will take to long and starts calling me names. For me it turns easy then, I call the cops to help fill the in insurance papers and calm the woman down. I get out of my car and notice my neck is a little stiff but don't make much of it. While we're waiting for the cops, I tell her why she didn't use the turn signal and why she didn't see I was behind her. She says she did use it and calls me names again so I decide to park my car on the side of the road and let traffic thru and wait there till the cops come. The cops arrive and ask what happen, I explain how everything happened and she steps in between me and the cops, starts crying and says that I hit her car from behind... I just couldn't believe what I was hearing!

This results that our stories don't lign up and police has to make a report of it and it will go to court. I don't know how it works in other country's but if you hit a car from behind in Belgium, you're pretty much always responsible for the accident. So I'm afraid if a judge reads our 2 stories, I am going to be f*cked! I'm really pissed off about the fact she just lied like that. We have insurances for that. I asked around if there were any wtnesses but nobody saw something. Its her word vs mine. I feel angry and upset that people can lie like that. And even though I see these things everyday at work, it's really upsetting me now. When I came home 45 minutes afterwards, my nose started bleeding, my neck was more stiff so that's when I decided to call my doctor. And now we are here with a painkiller and some warm towl around my neck wondering what went wrong. I've had my license for almost 12 years and this is my first (hopefully last) accident. I always take good care of my cars (not fanaticaly but I clean it every week and wash every month) and it turns out like this. The whole front of my car is damaged so I'm thinking of a 1000euro cost if nothing structural was hit, the other cars rear was damaged also. If it ends up being my fault, she'll get paid by my insurance company, I'll have to pay for my car and my insurance fee every month will go up...

I know this isn't the end of the world and many many people have it far worse than I, but I wanted to write this down somehow... I will not loose faith in the good will of people but it did yet recieve another hit. I'll stay positive but today (and maybe tomorrow still) I'm dissapointed and angry. Luckely I have my kids and wife to cheer me up and off course I like the people on SG too so added some gibs... P.S. Sorry for my drama and the absents of a poll :)

tl;dr: car accident - not my fault - other person lied - court - probably f*cked
the statement is a lie!

Yeah, that really sucks -- I hope it turns out okay for you somehow or you at least feel a bit better after venting here.

If she left her car in reverse after hitting you that'd be enough to prove your story, but she probably didn't and the cops probably didn't check.

That's why almost everybody in RU-CIS countries has dash cam.
But sorry for your case, sometimes shit happens with good people because of some shitheads.

Make sure you get a statement from your doctor after the examination about possible injury if it does go to court, but hopefully you have the equivalent of a small claims court if it needs to go that far. If only there was forensic evidence like marks on the ground that someone could have taken photos of to prove what happened

there are way too many douchbags with a driving license.. everywhere..

a similar accident happened to me last year, a couple of day before xmas
this old man stopping and reversing without any reason and bumping into me, then trying to go away like nothing happened: had to horn to make him stop and check the car.. luckily there was no damage to the car nor to me, but when I remembered him of the existance of rear mirrors he pretended to be right, yelling about 'safety distance'...
ffs, he STOPPED, what safety distance you have to keep from a NOT MOVING car!?

what a way to waste 10 minutes (because after the third 'safety distance rant' I decided to just get away from him) and ruin a pre-holiday afternoon.... >_>

ps: I wish you luck ;)

Know how you feel, last weekend, some fool made a U turn on the on/off ramp from the E40 to go to Pittem... He was driving on the on-ramp while we drove on the off ramp, towards Oostende, and simply turned around to drive off again, The lady before me could stop on time, but I slightly touched her rear bumper... The "KL**tzak" showed her the middle finger and drove off, but it's my insurance that will go up, and I don't even have a pv, as the cops didn't even write his plate up when the lady told them she wrote it down...

In the US, insurance companies do their own investigation outside of the police/court to decide which one pays. It can be a real mess when there's no clear person at fault and sometimes ends up with both companies refusing to pay. Insurance is just a scam when it's run for profit.

I've only been in one accident when I was driving. An old woman's car stalled at an intersection on a hill. She let off the brake while trying to restart it and rolled back into my truck. The police took a report, she didn't lie and there was someone riding with me as a witness. There wasn't much damage to my truck, so I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of getting it fixed. Her car was smashed up pretty bad though.

Too soon ...

Sorry about your accident. I hope you feel better. Karma is a b-i-a-t-c-h (*just saying). This lady will get what she deserves. With her driving skills she will not be able to get away with this kind of stuff for long.

Bump & good luck on your trial, Laurens!

Wow, that really sucks. It is the worst feeling when you are telling the truth and someone accuses you of being a liar. My wife had a similar accident where it was not her fault, and nobody believed her, and it still makes her really mad to talk about it even a few years later.

Hope you have a quick recovery and hope you can prove your case!

Take care of yourself, your health is most important thing, with it you can handle all the rest. I'm really sorry for your situation. To avoid it in the future - buy a dashcam (if it can be used as evidence in your country). Most drivers in my country have one, so in case of accident they always have a video record showing who was wrong.

my neck is stiff

Be very careful about that. If there's a problem, it'll take a while to manifest, but when it does, it can utterly destroy your life.
Don't accept any pittance from the insurance companies until you've a good idea of how bad it'll get.

lied

Make sure not to fix your car. They might be able to determine source of impact based off the shape of the damage.
If your nation has traffic cameras, and in that area, then that'll save you, as well.
