I am lazy to read all comments here, but I read what you wrote up in topic. I suggest you next: if you remember which email address you used for your Steam account, but you also didn't used that address for long ago and you lost it, MAKE SAME EMAIL AGAIN (hope it's not taken now). Then try with Steam again and Steam will send you verification code or something on that email address as always. Just try recover first your email address, that should be your first step.... Good luck!

It looks as if either you email or your steam account (or both) may have been hacked. Check your profile inventory - if everything's missing, that's it for sure.

Since you're still logged in on the browser, I'd recommend that you make a backup of all your cookies RIGHT NOW and never clear your history. While you're logged in online you can still do some stuff and maybe prove ownership.

Go contact support and see what happens.

I hope this person whoever it is,does not get you vac banned while he is using your account i am not sure if they would reverse it if it got banned while being hijacked.

Funny thing is Steam says you have to keep your account secure and safe, like anyone is fully safe from hackers.I wonder what they would say if they got hacked and people stole info that way to gain access to accounts, who would they say is at fault then?

There really needs to be a better way to get your account back and a better process but this is Steam not knowing for doing things the simple and most direct way.

They should also do more then use e-mail as an extra step as if they get your e-mail you are fucked. Why can they not also have an optiuon to instead of email, send you a text alert when ever someone is trying to change something.

There needs to be better security for email changes i hope you get your account back which i am sure you will at some point how who knows how long it will take, and i hope you get your account back without to much damage to say being banned and what not.

I hope your friends know or realize you have been hijacked so if they are using some phishing link they do not fall for it.

i do agree that e-mail just inst enaugh, i wish that they would use the phone for example more cuz all they do is rarely send a code to the phone and thats about it everything is about e-mail

Technically it's been in beta for awhile, you just had to join a group to be able to use it.

Hacking != phishing
OP probably got a keylogger from somewhere, and that's what caused this. I don't see anyone bothering with hacking steam accounts if they have knowledge to do so.
There is 2 way protection over steam mobile app.
There are 2 way protections on most popular email services like Gmail and Hotmail/Outlook.

I have lost my account like 2-3 times, and I've learned it hard way to keep my things safe.

"so steam kicked me out saying that i was loged in for a long time and to re-enter the password"

Pretty sure Steam doesn't do that (to kick for being logged in for a LONG time???), and that's where you failed and gave your info to the phisher.

It does it if somehow someone logins using same steam guard file (ssfnXXX) or if you restore from hibernation.

I use hibernation like ALWAYS and never got this message. Also my other pc is always on with steam open most of the time.

you probably downloaded a software by accident that allowed the hacker to hack the profile, there's a russian steam phishing market, who knows who is using your account atm. Your best bet is to get have different passwords for both email and steam, and have security for email,etc...

But yeh, not the guy to help you, stay strong man. Contact steam, it'll take weeks but you'll get your account back hopefully.

If this guy is in your emails, your Steam account may be the least of your worries.

My layman advise:
Check your email at https://haveibeenpwned.com

Run an AV/Trojan scan on your Steam PC

I also suggest you check your other accounts, especially those with financial info, or if you re-use the same password/email combo.
If possible use another device/PC for this.

First of all.You need to run FULL system scan.If your computer is infected you might loose more valuable stuff than a steam account.I highly recommend using both Malwarebytes and Avast (both offer free version). Now check if u still have access to your E-mail address if not then try recovering your password.Last but not least contact steam support in case your email has been already changed or if you can't access your e-mail........goodluck

You need everyone of us report you on steam. It should help. When enough people will report you, steam support will block your acc on steam and that hacker won't be able to use your acc until then you'll get it back.

Even so had you kept your email address up to date and secure, it wouldn't have been a problem, assuming you kept steamguard on.

Comment has been collapsed.

Here is a lesson folks. Always make sure your email account that's on your steam account is active and secure.

@OP- Just tell support your account got hacked first. They should be able to make a preliminary investigation by checking login IP and lock the account so the person can't cause any harm. Then you need to provide some proof of ownership to get your account back. But get the account locked first.

I am very glad to hear that you got your account back. You will still want to check your protection, though. See if you can figure out how they broke into your account and take measures to prevent it from happening, again.
