When I first joined this website, I did so mainly to see if it's not a scam, and because I had a spare key from the Humble Bundle. Since then I won numerous games (mostly trash), and it doesn't feel right to just take and not give anything in return. (plus that sweet sweet level 2) However, I don't really have any spare keys and my income isn't nearly good enough to just buy games on a whim.
So, if you create giveaways at all, do you just buy games to gift strangers when you feel like it, do you only do it when it's part of a bundle and you already own that one game, do you buy bundles specifically to give them away, or am I missing something?
Thank you in advance, long responces are welcome.

How do you make giveaways?

View Results
I often buy full priced games with the intention of giving them away.
I buy games in bulk (bundles ect) when there is a special ocasion with giveaways in mind. I buy good games but when they're at their cheapest.
I only give away games I don't want or already own. I never buy things with this website in mind.
I usually try to sell or trade games I don't want or already own, this website is a last resort for them not to go to waste.
I get shovelware from God knows where and put them here because I guess there's a market for it.
I never make giveaways.
Other (please explain in the comments)

Sale, a lot of sale, wallet from selling card/pack/item...etc , bundle left over or unuse ....etc..... and Stuff like Tremor game for some other (not me though)
Most people will just do GA, by the whim, or one a special date like birthday. cake day.....dead anniversay day, national holiday......etc...etc
There is ton of game at 50-75% cost +-10$ or just around 5$, it not very hard to find something cheap (find something GOOD but CHEAP is way much harder though)

So there's no "strategy" or whatever that I'm not aware of? That's a relief.

Usually people use games that get from bundles, but if you cant afford money for buy bundle the only thing I know for get free keys is Tremorgames, but you need time and patience for completing offerts and survey...

i went with the "...never buy things with this website in mind" option because the first part is true. the bulk of my giveaways are games i got another copy of for buying a game i wanted or from buying different bundles that included the same game, or bundles that include games i bought / won separately before the bundle.

there were a couple times though that i bought an extra copy of a game because i liked it a lot and wanted to share it. the way this site is set up gives the impression that i shouldn’t buy games that have ever been in bundles, so for example my favorite game frozen synapse isn’t something i’d buy to give away here (i have bought it for friends though).

I do not like to buy keys, usually I buy games at a discount, with the money collected from the sale of cards

To save up its usually selling things on market. I will play games with marketable items when they get big patchs and sell the drops.
cards here and there. The only thing I spend real money on is when I can afford too and it would be on something like humble bundles/monthly.

Usually try waiting for semi decent sales 33-75% range I try to be patient, but usually its pretty random how long I am able to save without seeing something to spend on for gibs. I aim for sought after or games I think look good. I don't even have the game I giveaway sometimes. So I try my best at researching/watching the crap out of trailers on the steam store. Reading what people reviewed/ posted in discussions.
Also keeping an eye on what my friends are playing, specially the friends that I know on steamgifts to see if its trending or worth trying.

Sry if my post was a bit all over the place :)

bundles for the bundle games (obviously ^^) and mostly sales for the unbundled ones. very rarely i buy a game full price for a giveaway (happened just a few days ago, but it was the first one in months).

I only buy bundles when I actually want a few games from them, so I redeem the ones I like the look of myself and anything that isn't up my street gets given away.

I also try to give away games that aren't on the bundle list (for CV, of course) and I buy them when they're on sale.

Sales. Usually for games that I personally really liked and want others to experience too. :D
Of course since I'm a total cheapskate those sales need to be really good before I'd deem it acceptable to spend that much on a single game. I go by a strict(-ish) code of "at least 75% off or no deal!". ^_^'

The whole majority of my giveaways are gifts bought directly from Steam (and sometimes, Nuuvem) since I don't own a credit card. That's why most of my giveaways are region restricted to South America. Recently I did some freelance jobs and got paid by PayPal, so I was able to get some bundles.

My strategy is to buy non-bundled games when they go on deep discount in the Steam store, then to procrastinate giving them away until they're all bundled, then to say "Why bother now?" and wait until the next sale to do it again.

My steam inventory is currently 5 pages of now-bundled games. :-(

Today I played with the thought of buying the 25 indie game bundle from greenmangaming.com to give most of them away, then it told me that I need to pay a 20% fee if I wanna pay with Paysafecard... so I didn't.
I would like to buy bundles to give away, but paying for a bunch of crap games that most people won't even bother playing just to level up feels a bit of a waste to me.
Nice bundles are kinda rare, unfortunately.

I typically buy bundles without even thinking about the games in them. When I have leftovers, and I feel like going through the effort of setting up a gib, I pass them on here. If it's one of the bundle sites where you get 2 copies of the bundle for the same price, or just a few pennies more (DIG / IndieGala's Happy Hour / etc.) - then I might pick up a second set for gibs.

And when I find a decent-ish game for less than a quarter on Steam --- I stock up. I don't do that as much anymore, since i got over the epic shock of buying a video game for less than 80% of a quarter.

For unbundled games I get row gifts from Steam and keys from places like Humble Store that can be in sale or not and that have had in the past a sale not higher than 70%-75%. I like to check those weekly in the Steam Store and a few other places.

For bundled or so called 10 cent bundle games I usually only use the bundle spares I got from different bundles I bought partially for myself.
