Dungreedy for better games or satisfied with this Choice?

[Tier 1] Rebundled Beaks is my pick, I didn't get Killer Bundle 16.
[BTA] An Expedition towards the only unbundled game in here.
[Tier 3] Anything roguelike I buy, there's no stopping it.
[Have] Haven't I seen (and bought) virtually all of these before?
[Expensive] If I bought this, the hole in my wallet would need a Synthetik patch to plug.
[Skip] My eyesight must be fading, I can't see anything Remarkable about this bundle whatsoever.

Sorry, Heroes of Hammerwatch & Everspace also aren't bundled. (T2 poll option)

Pretty meh bundle I thought, but if you're missing those it's not the end of the world.

Sorry, Heroes of Hammerwatch & Everspace also aren't bundled.

Everspace is- it was in two Fanatical bundles from 5 months ago, which- while not great on their cost benefits- were apparently enough to get the game marked as bundled on SG, given the site's corresponding bundle date. Heroes of Hammerwatch is likewise marked as bundled on SG, though that's due to it having been free on Chrono. As the poll option could have been intending "unbundled" to refer to the CV sense of the term, it should be fine as-is.

Poll aside, they're effectively unbundled, as far as appeal. Unfortunately, this bundle doesn't seem one to be able to be carried off those two [relative to its pricing].. and that's even before you consider the fact that Hero Siege's base game seems to have been moved from T1 (where it has been in the past) to replace an actually suitable third T3 offering.

The RPG heroes bundle and I thought the last two choice bundles were good. I'm sure many would disagree :) Just the fact that they are releasing more bundles recently (with a reasonably priced tier 3) is worth celebrating.

If you're just getting the bundle for that, I'd hold off for now. Chances are someone made a mistake while typing the description or they changed their mind at the last minute. I've opened a support ticket. Will try to remember to reply here when I get a response :)

I just got a reply from them:
We are sincerely sorry for the recent confusion surrounding Hero Siege. Listing this title as the "Complete Edition" was a mistake on our end. This bundle does not include the Complete Edition for Hero Siege and we are working to update our descriptions as soon as possible.

They have let me know this last night that they have added the missing keys to my account and I've heard others on steam have it as well. It is now also in the bundle page listed as the complete edition.

I don't have time to check all the keys at this moment and if that makes indeed the "hero siege Complete edition" complete.

Tried SYNTHETIK and EVERSPACE last night and enjoyed them both :) Tried using a controller for both games but seems like people recommend mouse and keyboard in both cases. What do you recommend?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Glad you are enjoying both! I'm always impartial to KB + M for PC gaming, so here is my take:

SYNTHETIK benefits from a mouse for performing precision headshots in a way that would be trickier for me with a controller. However, if you are really good at mentally drawing lines from your character to an enemy, then it might be worth it, but...

let's say that you line up a shot perfectly that draws a straight line between your character and the enemy's head, but your character is lower on the screen than the enemy such that the line would appear to pass through their body before reaching their head (because the game is isometric perspective). Would the game give you a head shot or body shot? I have no clue. With a mouse, your aim depends on your ability to aim and click the literal head of whatever you are shooting at. I hope that makes the nuanced difference clear.

EVERSPACE doesn't demand as much precision, though aiming is still important. I think the tradeoff is that keyboard is less precise with ship movement but mouse is better with aiming. So a controller may be more precise with movement but aiming would come down to your ability to handle a thumbstick/pad versus a mouse.

Comment has been collapsed.

Thank you for the in depth explanation! See what you mean about precision with Synthetik. Will do a couple of runs with KB + M this evening and see how I get on. I managed to defeat 'Experiment 57' on my first run with a controller last night. So I'll compare my level of success against that ;)

For Everspace, I did try both controller and briefly KB + M last night, and honestly neither felt perfect. I obviously need to get used to things. Again, I think I'll stick with KB + M for a couple of runs and see how I do :)

Thanks again for your input.

May I ask, roughly how much are you earning with these redirected links? I'm so curious, but if it's too personal of a question, I get it.

There is a redirect, but I dont see an affiliate code in the link I saw: https://www.steamgifts.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.humblebundle.com%2Fgames%2Fremarkable-roguelikes

Affiliate links were not provided by OP, as such links would be against the rules: https://www.steamgifts.com/about/guidelines

If you do find an affiliate link and not just a redirect, then it is possible that the site itself injects the affiliate link, but that would just go to running the site or holiday giveaways. OP is not a mod or admin of this site.

Nobody else than sensualshakti is "allowed" to make Bundle threads anymore so that probably explains it 😅

I probably phrased that badly. What I ment was:

It only appears to Jordanlol as if only sensualshakti adds those referral links because only sensualshakti does Bundle threads. I strongly assume Jordanlol has referrals turned on.

If somebody else was to make a bundle thread it would have the same referral links because they get automatically inserted if the setting is turned on.

I've been making bundle threads for years and not once did I earn any money from it. The referral links are added by default by SteamGifts, not by me - every Fanatical / Humble Bundle link you click will bring in some money for SteamGifts.
In order to remove them, there's a setting that you can disable on your profile.

Since this is a common question that attracts a lot of hate towards me and many blacklists, I usually have a text on every such thread, explaining more about the topic. Not sure what happened to recent Humble Bundle threads since I see that it's missing.

SteamGifts by default modifies all Fanatical.com, HumbleBundle.com, GamersGate.com links from all threads, adding the SteamGifts referral code. Whenever a user click or shares a link to one of the sites listed above, SteamGifts will earn a commission.
By using these reflinks, SteamGifts will receive $10 for new subscribers, 5% of Humble Store sales, 15% for bundles via the Humble Partner Program.

The base game goes for like 1€, not more than 2€ during sales. Take a look at how many DLC's the game has, you'll probably want some of those (the one for increasing inventory/storage size is I'd say a must, there are lots of character DLC's too, the one that adds 7th chapter is not that great, most people that own the DLC just skip that chapter anyway, but I think there's also a character you get with it).

Anyway, I bought the Complete edition for 10€ on steam's summer sale and the game was a lot of fun. I played it for like at least 10 hours every day, and it's been quite a while since I got that hooked on any game. Then the season 12 ended, season 13 came and was not only riddled with buffs but they drastically slowed down the progression through the game by nerfing stats on all items and buffing enemies.

Game went from being very fun, to just not being fun at all. You used to be able to get to the end-game in like 3-5 hours if you knew what you're doing, now I hear it takes over 40 hours to reach end-game (which is just grinding btw, since the game doesn't really have a storyline and the very few quests it does have are not worth bothering with). Also before when you reached lv100 on your character you'd then gain hero levels which were infinite (I think they were infinite) which applied globally for all characters on your account, so starting with new characters was easier over time which made you want to give other classes a try and experiment. Hero levels are now no longer global but tied to each character instead, so each new character will be just about equally slow to go through the game, well maybe a bit quicker since you'll probably have items for them in your storage.

Anyway, I really can't recommend the game right now.

This was a good read. I checked your steam page for a review on this game, but didn't see anything. I think you should definitely put your thoughts out there. This actually reminded me of another similar game I played. The dealbreaker for me is the issue with globals being turned off across all characters. That REALLY sucks. I see now why the reviews are so mixed. I'm gonna pool through a couple of reviews on steam and see what others can add to this. But thanks for all this info, man. I appreciate it.

I thought about making a review for it, but I don't know how would I tackle it. The thing is while I played it in S12 I would have wrote a very positive review, praising the game and recommending it. But in S13, it's more the other way around. And who knows what's gonna happen next season.

These developers are no strangers to making drastic changes to this game. Heck, the game itself started as a rather simple wave killing roguelike and then over the years transformed into H&S action RPG with 7 acts and a lot of classes each with two different skill trees which can also be combined.

Writing the same thing you wrote here would suffice. It's factual, shows that you played a game a lot, and "you're not angry, just disappointed" by the current state of the game. And as it's clear that season-change brought the bad times, another season or patch can easily fix it :)

I tried it, it was really bad for me. Essentially the first ~2 hours was killing millions of unthreatning mobs with tons of items, none of which have any use. From what I've read, my experience was shared by other players, that then complained about very easy turning into very hard with no balance

Comment has been collapsed.

It had some of the worst interface issues I've ever seen in a game, to date (seriously, trying to navigate basic equipment menus was like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube). I decidedly could not stand it. The actual gameplay wasn't good either, playing out just as a generic, clunky arcade game (honestly, it envoked memories of NES era Gauntlet games more than anything else).

Sure, it's got Diablo-like looting to it but, I mean.. do you really want to suffer all that for something you can find in countless other games? And nevermind how glitchy the multiplayer was and how very, very bad the level design was. From combat design to mob design to difficulty balancing and basically everything else, I just can't think of a single part of the game that didn't frustrate or bore me. Nevermind you couldn't rebind any keys, which only made the terrible control and interface design that much worse..

More notably, it was one of those games I got to play with friends, and all four of us hated it immediately and gave up completely after two sessions attempting to play it.

That all said, I haven't tried it for years- but another major issue was how very unresponsive the developer was to feedback (perhaps in part due to the support oi a small, rabid core fanbase), so I heavily doubt it has improved. Really, it's probably the second most notable game after Payday 2 that I just can't fathom why people like so much [I'm not sure of the present state of Payday 2, but originally the base game was $20 for demo length content, and was filled with bugs, subpar shooting mechanics, weak level design, and extremely weak AI and AI spawning mechanics. It was an amazing cosmetic sim, though, to be fair].

tl;dr version: If you ever wanted to play the NES Gauntlet games again, but also wanted them to be generic Diablo-clones done with very messy map design, horrendous menu interfaces, loads of polish issues, and just overall clunkyness.. this is definitely the game for you.

Really, it's one I'd heavily recommend going for the base game on, before considering DLCs. Given that it's been previously bundled at low tiers, you should be able to find a lot of good trade or giveway offers for it, so perhaps consider trying to get the base game on its own first, before shelling in fully for the bundle.

Thanks for your opinion, man. I also read your steam review for Hero Siege and while it was very informative, I was pretty impressed at how in-depth ALL your reviews are. Good job.

In terms of Gauntlet, ever since Gauntlet Slayers Edition I've been seeking a game similar to that experience. I actually value the gauntlet style gameplay more than I do the Diablo stuff. I'm gonna give it a shot while lowering my expectations, as I'm that desperate to replicate that experience and couldn't find it in Helldivers or the recent Darksburg.

Thanks for the good read!

Thanks for your opinion, man. I also read your steam review for Hero Siege and while it was very informative, I was pretty impressed at how in-depth ALL your reviews are. Good job.

I'm genuinely glad it was helpful! I try my best to provide any information that could be helpful, and in as specific a manner as possible (though for some of those games, it does unfortunately get a bit hard to go beyond "gods this is terrible in every single way").

After all, I'm fully aware that everyone has different lines as far as what'll turn them on or off of a game- heavens know I've stuck around with enough shoddy tower defense, card, or idle games just because I find them easier gaming options to load up on a typical day [this despite them being ones I'd dis-recommend in a review]. With that in mind, I'm glad you did find the post and review constructive enough to make a firm decision, since it wasn't my intent to shy you off of the game (just to make sure you were going in with clear expectations).

Of course, again, it's been a whopping 6 years since I last played, so I'm also not sure how well those expectations still stand, and I hope that was also clearly indicated. I'll try and make the time to load the game up and see how it's changed, so I can give a more up-to-date review, if necessary. Similarly, I hope you'll feel welcome to giving me your thoughts on the game's current state. :)

I actually value the gauntlet style gameplay more than I do the Diablo stuff.

While I had my share of fun with the Gauntlet games, I always felt like they could be more than they were. That said, it's a very easy to pick up and play multiplayer game series, so I've always been partial to it for that. Much like many of Nintendo's IPs, it's not really a game series that tired friends will say "no, I'm too tired for that" to, when considering a game for an evening. :P (Which makes it a series I do try to pick up for every console that has it- though, unfortunately, Gauntlet releases aren't quite as prevelant as they once used to be.)

Basically, it's a lighthearted, casual, arcadey RPG-brawler series [barring the rather strenuous NES games] and I do appreciate it for that. Conversely, Diablo-likes are more for the looting for me, while my favorite ARPGs as far as involving gameplay are Snowblind's Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath games (both series for PS2-era consoles, only), as well as Icewind Dale.

I guess, in the end, I'm pretty partial to most any ARPG; Rather, the only reason I had issue with Hero Siege at the time of my review was because it had an NES-era clunkyness and limited level of design. Hopefully that's been changed since then and, given that the game has had several "seasons", it's quite possible it has [though, again, the devs pushed back against any QoL or polishing fixes back when I played, hence my uncertainty on that.]

I'm gonna give it a shot while lowering my expectations, as I'm that desperate to replicate that experience and couldn't find it in Helldivers or the recent Darksburg.

That's a real pity- I was looking forward to the co-op in both of those. :/

Haha another great read. I literally loled at your Gnormoria review and commend for giving that game a shot. I just... I couldn't. I just couldn't. I will let you know if Hero Siege is any better than it was when you played.

I loved gauntlet specifically because it was a nice pickup and play game that didn't require me to constantly micro-manage loot. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm just looking for games right now in that range as ARPGs can be so time-consuming sometimes.

Gonna check out some more of your reviews for some games I'm leaning towards the next steam sale. I'm probably one of the few people that don't gravitate towards negative reviews and prefer long, detailed reviews with at least 10+ hours of playtime to help inform my purchase decisions whether it be negative or positive. So I appreciate the work you've done, man. Thanks for your contributions.

Maybe you should consider being a curator if time allows for this. You have more than enough reviews to qualify for something like that I believe.

Heroes of Hammerwatch has been on my Wishlist forever now. I really enjoyed the first game, Hammerwatch, and always thought it deserved more attention, which the sequel thankfully received. I really never cared for Hero Siege and always thought it was a subpar game even though it's the most well known title here. Even though this bundle should have used the word Roguelite instead of like, or used a qualifier like calling them action Roguelikes, I still love all forms of the ever increasingly ill-defined genre and I think for the first time in a long time I'm buying a bundle from what used to be the best bundle site around and is now number 2 at best.

HoH is fun, and even though a lot of these have pretty deeply discounted sale prices if you're missing them from your library I would go for this bundle! As a fellow frustrated fan of 'rogue' I have given up on the classifications and have dropped the lite/like suffix.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're right, you kinda have to just drop it and stop fighting at some point. The meaning of the word has changed forever and there's nothing anyone can do about it now. Most people, if they know the word at all, would probably name Binding of Isaac or the like if you asked them to name a roguelike and that game is about as far from the original definition as possible. But I guess some purists would say Tales of Maj'Eyal or anything that looks better than ASCII characters doesn't qualify so even if I tried to be technically correct, I like tiles and images over ASCII so I'm a heathen too.

BTW - I whitelisted you and I have a couple GA's going for game that also bastardize the name roguelike as well.

Yeah there's people on all sides that subscribe to different definitions for like and lite, all the way from purists to some developers defaulting to 'roguelite' even though the usualy 'lite' elements aren't present.
Thanks, I'll be sure to enter! =)

DID YOU KNOW that solitaire is a card-based roguelike? :D

Jokes aside I agree, it's an incredibly misused name used for an incredibly wide variety of games. It's really losing it's usefulness as it focuses on the super few similarity (runs, permadeath, randomization) between those games, while the differences makes them unique and interesting.

Damn, I only want Hero Siege so badly.... I have to resist from buying the bundle just for it. XD It's hard!!!

If that makes it any easier it was already bundled 10 times and sold as low as 0,29€ from official retailers. Quality aside it's really not T3 material. Only a matter of time until it appears in a better deal.

My pleasure 😉

When you're not sure if something is a good deal https://isthereanydeal.com & https://gg.deals are very handy to check price histories or how often a game has been bundled and when.

Actually you know what? I had the impression it was very cheap, but when I saw it in the highest tier, I thought I was confusing it with something else. But it's crazy to discover they actually put a few cents game in the TIER 3.... it completely blown my mind XD

Tier 3 is insanely good, can't recommend it enough, Everspace and Heroes of Hammerwatch are some of my favorite games. HoH is really enjoyable solo and co-op but I advice co-op is less forgiving as the game progresses.

May I ask you why you like Everspace? I have it in my library, but I never gave it the right priority. Can you spend a few words on what it is like? :) There is something to manage, or it's just a Shooter in space?

First of all, it's visually outstanding, every sector with its secrets and hazards looks really cool, there are 4 ships depending if you want to go balanced, full stealth, fast or just braindead gunship, you will mostly stick to a playstyle depending of what you choose at the start, but it will vary in some ways depending on the weapons and devices you get during each run.

During a run, you have limited time to explore, kill enemies, get secrets and farm resources at each sector before it gets really difficult, so there is some planning and time management in that (it's not as hard as it sounds). It has a main story and side quests that progress through each run, they're good, but not the main selling point.

My favorite part was the dogfighting, it's incredibly fun because it feels really different depending of the ship you choose and the equipment you get during each run. There are some balance issues with some broken build combinations but that's just part of the fun.

I highly recommend playing it with the encounters DLC and a gamepad for the full experience tho.

Want Heroes of Hammerwatch, but $10 is too much given almost every other game is a rebundle (wtf at Hero Siege in T3).

I bought Curious Expedition for € 4.99 on a Steam sale. I think it's a great game. Blazing Beaks was a great surprise, much more fun than it sounds. I already have these 2, but still, I think I will buy T3

Do not judge Synthetik by screenshots -- you have to see that thing MOVE to understand why it is good. :D

Worth it for Heroes of Hammerwatch alone, everything else looks good enough.
