So, this guy has already won 5 contests, among them are HL2 and more than one copy of Portal. Both of which he already owns, AND has hours in. At this moment the HL2 contest ended 14 minutes ago, with him having 16.7 hours in game.

This member is obviously entering every contest and not using the winnings for himself. This is far but fair.

Giveaways Entered - 141

Gifts Won - 5

I know it's hard/impossible to weed our genuine users from those trying to cheat the system, but I feel it's fair to ban those that are caught using it inappropriately.

It seems like he actually won not 1, but 2 copies of Portal. There REALLY needs to be a profile check for the games you already own.

haha :D yh tht was me... I entered 50 portal giveaways and no luck so far. I am beginning to think the random algorithm used to select winners is ignoring my user name cuz it looks weird :P

Unfortunately there isn't really any set terms and conditions on the site yet, so BlueLegion isn't really doing anything wrong. The main problem is that BlueLegion pretty much entered everything on the site before the points system was introduced. Considering they've won 5 giveaways, I think taking away all their entries prior to the points system would be acceptable.

Perhaps the same for all of those who got >100 entries prior to the point system, make it fairer on those who've been considerate of their entries.

Well random is random, but you certainly have increased chances over a lot of users who weren't here before the points system, or those who were being reserved during.

Okay, it is ...disappointing... if he is actually entering for games that he already owns, or winning (and accepting) for games that he's already won.

Still, I don't think he deserves a BAN; the outright anger people direct at him should be enough. Once limits are able to be imposed then that will be how it is, but as it is- fair is fair... even if it feels a little unfair. He's a lucky guy, I'm sure he'll be second guessing how he feels about winning those games and being more careful of the contests he enters from now on.

hes entering all contests to games he allready has to trade with other people. This shows he only cares about himself and no one else. Theese sort of people should not be welcomed here. i am only entering contests for games i want / need unlike what he is doing -.-

Yeah, I'm thinking on it more and it is a really shitty thing to do. Is that practice laid out in the site rules as bannable? I know it's frowned upon, but maybe if it is spelled out for all of us that if we act like dicks then it will result in a ban, I'd feel better with the guy being banned.

I kinda go along with jessej07. I don't see Blue doing anything wrong. There is a difference between a moral code and rules for the website. He obviously would like to win it all. But at this point I don't see him doing anything that completely violates the site.

says the one trying to cover his own skin, you have entered 150 contests. You have entered contests for games you allready own too. you allready own half life and portal why enter more?

Yea I did get portal, because I was thinking of a friend, ok. I'm sorry, should I just give it away again? Seriously should I?I didn't think it would be a big deal because of all the other portal giveaways....I was just thinking of one of my friends. AlsoI have entered all the ones I can afford and the ones I don't have. I only have HL deathmatch and HL lost coast....those are the only half lifes I have. Are they the same as HL2 ep 1 or ep 2...etc.?? If so then I can remove entries and save me some points.

I think entering for a friend is also frowned upon, but again I don't think it's spelled out as being bannable. Yeah, maybe you should feel a little bad, but whatever, this site is new and there is bound to be some gray areas such as getting a game for friend.

I suppose BlueLegion could even use that excuse as well though, "hey, I've got tons of friends!".

So yeah, feel a little bad, but at least your not scrutinizing every user's entry history.

Your account should have invites, so there's no reason why you can't just get your friend to sign up.

no, i dont have any invite codes. otherwise i wouldnt even think about entering a raffle for a game i already have.

edit: unless i can replace my censored/cut game license with a clean one that way, but that not the case for most games.

ofc it's fine to enter give aways for games you do not own im just not ok with people entering for games they do own to trade to other people. you have entered many portal contests which isnt fine. And the points should not be refunded if you entered the contest b4 the points system.

I am +1 on the banning, especially since he has won multiple copies of a game he already owns. (Portal). I say if he is not banned then to remove all of his entries and ALL of his points. Let him start at zero with no current games bidding on.

i really dont see the point. i'm not cheating the system or anything, and everyone else had the chance to do the same.
so what if i already own the games? i happen to have over 185 on steam, legitimately obtained. and i like passing my winnings (although i didnt actually expect to win anything beforehand) on to close friends and family, since i dont have any invite codes to share.
As long as the as the donator of the giveaway doesnt state that doesnt want anyone entered who has the game already, i did nothing wrong. and for those giveaways where it's stated, i'm not in them.

PS: i already removed all my entries in further HL2 and portal giveaways.

I'm not all for causing a forum riot, but I think that this community should be used for sharing gifts WITHIN the community. I understand you're trying to pass games along, and I totally get that. However, this site should be used for rewarding EACH OTHER, not people outside the site. Also, thank you for removing entries for things you have, and also thank you for responding in a public manner. Most people would just take their winnings and run without responding, but I respect your response on here. Discussion on improving the site is always good.

Think of the site creator in mind he wants people ti visit this site and not for one person to join contests for 30 of his friends. I thought everyone got a invite code my apologizes i have 2. But it will change it wont be invite only all the time

I do not think he deserves a ban. He is really lucky. I have entered all the Portal giveaways that I could find and I have not won. (Portal is the game i am really hoping to win). Just bad luck for me, cant really blame him or take my frustration on him. About winning games he already had? Should not be possible but the current system allows it so, it is not bannable. Is it moral? Not it is not moral IMO.

A ban? No, maybe not. A tsk, tsk? Yes indeed.

Blue, please don't enter contests for games you already own. If you are trying to give the games to friends and family, I get that, but they have to wait until the site it made public for them to enter and have a chance at winning. The site is a giveaway place where people who don't own a game, and really do want it, can enter to win. I'm not in favor of banning you, but I do understand the reason why some people want you banned.. You are exploiting what could be a nice thing for your own benefit.

Yes for a ban. It should be an unwritten rule, you don't sign up for games you already have. Either that or make it so the site doesn't allow you to sign up for games you already have.

Ban? For what? There are no rules (there are if the benefactor write), so he enter so many giveaways, now there are some restrictions (points) so he wont join so easly (or he has a plan to exit ending giveaways and join long term giveaway so he can get full points for long time). But if there isn't any laws and rules he can not be banned.

I think it makes common sense that u don't enter a contest if u already have a game...
makes just as much sense as something like: don't spam the forums
a ban is perhaps a bit to much, but if i was a giftee of a giveaway i wuld not send the games

this site hardly seems random if someone is winning 5 games, wtf.. i've entered 80 giveaways and only won 1 game so far.. this is bullshit and i hope the mods do something about this.

There are a few people that have won 3 times, and BlueLegion is the only guy with more than 3 wins. If anything, this proves it is indeed random: if people weren't winning multiple times then it would imply the system checks for past winners and excludes them - that would not be fair.

must everyone say it's not in the rules so i can do it. Thats just retarded some things are common sense. If you are walking down the road and some one has fallen over do you help them up? yes is it the law no, its the right thing to do.

I fail to see how that example relates to banning someone for winning too many games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What if the person who fell over has a knife and says "if you help me up, I will stab you, bitch." What then Chaosquall? Is helping them up the right thing to do in that case? What if he says "help me up, I'm covered in flesh-eating bacteria!" Or, "help me up, before this bomb in my chest goes off in 2 seconds."

Yeah, this doesn't relate at all to the question of banning BlueLegion... which isn't even a question because he's only "breaking" unspoken or inferred rules. He's not actually harming anyone.

There needs to be some sort of exclusion rule that prevents you from entering a contest if you already own the game, that's all I'm saying.
