Today I started playing Enslaved, I knew almost nothing about the game, just checked couple screenshots before getting it from Amazon for two bucks. So far I've finished half chapters and I must say the game is really good. I expected something to play for an hour and then never again. PS: the port is terrible
So I'm wondering, what games have surprised you recently?

*edit
Just finished Enslaved (12 hours straight) and it was really good, very interesting story, though it might have been more focused on it though out the whole game, not just last chapter.

Thomas was alone for me. I was surprised how much I enjoyed that game.

^ this, it was not the last game that was surprisingly pleasant to play for me, but definitely one of the most memorable games I ever played.

Definitely. It's one of those games that doesn't look very interesting before starting. But then it all changes instantly.

Yeah, I loved it and didn't expect that. It also made me smile way more than I thought a game about blocks could.

+1. Thought it was going to be garbage but it turned out to be fun. It had great narration throughout.

I certainly liked it, but I won't call it a surprise because the trailer already got me.

Remember Me. I got it from a trade and had no idea that it existed before that point. The game was actually pretty fun to an extent.

Did you get tired playing the game? I quit halfway because the repetivity from using the combos and fighting same enemies was too exhausting. The game might look gorgeous but it was too dragging for my taste.

Fun Fact: The developer of Remember Me was recently reorganized. They claimed it was not bankruptcy but everyone knew it was.

I used cheats when the fighting got boring and just focused on experiencing the story and environments.

I love the story/world, just the combat system is a little stale.

I liked it, but when the last 2 memory remixes was the same, but with other result, I had enough and just wanted to complete the game.

Im going to say RUST. Not because it pleasantly surprised me but because it shocked me on how HORRIBLE the community is.
Before you bash me, I've punched over 30 hrs until I finally gave up. One of the worst gaming experiences ever.

What? You don't like getting murdered with a rock? What about murdering people with a rock... does that float your boat?

A Virus Named Tom, from the Humble Indie Bundle 9, I saw some bad reviews about it before I got it, but after playing it I find the puzzles rather interesting and am liking the game so far.

GRID 2. I missed some solid racing game for a really long time and now we got GRID 2. That's how NFS should've been done.

I wanted to like Grid 2 so much because its predecessor was amazing and is still, for me, one of the best racing games. Unfortunately, Grid 2 is horrible :(

Bulletstorm, looked pretty interesting so I picked it up and spent 2 weeks playing through it 5 times, super fun game, definitely would recommend.
Bioshock 2 I had heard nothing but bad about, and I ended up liking it more than the first, not sure about the PC version though, it could be worse.

+1 for Bulletstorm. I liked it too. Bought CE, and played until there were players on Anarchy. Thanks to the end of GFWL it's not playable now without a crack :/, and no infos about future DRM change.

Journey of a Roach.

Got it from the Daedalic Entertainment HB. It's really cute, and I loved it. The gameplay too. The only downside is that's it's too short. :)

I just finished that and thought it was great as well. No obscure solutions, no "click everything on the screen" genre issues. Just a fun little adventure. I personally thought the length was perfect, but I'm much more into short, dense gameplay "experiences" lately rather than a game meeting some hr/$ ratio. Just finished enjoying Journey, Electronic Super Joy and Thomas Was Alone as well, both of those meeting the same criteria.

Not a PC game, but I bought Animal Crossing: New Leaf after being told repeatedly how good it was. Even with the hype, it's better than I thought it would be.

As far as PC games go, I had the same experience with Starbound. I was never super into Terraria (more of a Minecraft gal) and I figured it would turn out to be overhyped but man, it's really fun.

Playing it right now. People were saying it's terrible but it's a good shooter lol, seriously. I have no idea what's wrong with it. It's pleasant.

Tomb Raider. I never really enjoyed a TR game before, I always thought the story and physics were lacking or overblown. I finished TR at 95% and enjoyed it immensely. The characters were very human and the game play not too repetitive.

I'd say the last game to pleasantly surprise me was either Thomas Was Alone or Enclave... Though Enclave also unpleasantly surprised me after a certain point as the difficulty jumped up ridiculously for what seems like no reason.

For Steam/PC it would be Little Inferno, it proved to be hilarious and super fun, with a somewhat surprisingly touching ending. I game on a lot of platforms so, I have to include Tear Away for the PS Vita, as it was a beautiful game. For my 3DS I'd have to say LoZ -Link Between Two Worlds surprised me, mostly because it surpassed anything I expected. I knew it would be good, great even, but I was not expecting it to be as spectacular as it ended up being.
