Today I started playing Enslaved, I knew almost nothing about the game, just checked couple screenshots before getting it from Amazon for two bucks. So far I've finished half chapters and I must say the game is really good. I expected something to play for an hour and then never again. PS: the port is terrible
So I'm wondering, what games have surprised you recently?

*edit
Just finished Enslaved (12 hours straight) and it was really good, very interesting story, though it might have been more focused on it though out the whole game, not just last chapter.

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol, pretty decent for what should be a facebook game.

Deadly Premonition. The port could be better but the game is amazing.

+1 For me it's like a low-budget open-world Alan Wake. I kinda like the story though, but this sleepiness and hunger meter totally worsens the game. The game's biggest problem is, it can't decide what it is. An Adventure game or a Horror game. When I saw the X-box trailer, I knew it will be good, but on Steam for 25 EUR, I was like: "Thanks but no". Fortunately IG January had this great game in it! DP:DC is the best example that metacritic score is not everything. It's a hidden gem, which everybody should play! It suffers from numerous things, but the story drives the game. RECOMMENDED!

Bit.trip runner 2. The first one was nice but I couldn't get into it... A friend gifted me the new one and it's surprisingly accessible and fun. I recommend playing it on hard mode and with a controller.

Recettear and Don't Starve I also got some time ago as gifts... Had heard things about them but didn't expect to put 25 and 45 hours into each of them.

Special mention to Quantum Conundrum, which I got in SG. It was probably my GOTY. Fucking love that game.

I still prefer the first one and dont like the second...
But I have to agree the second is far more accessible.

Sleeping Dogs. I enjoyed the setting, driving and the story way more than I expected, but I started with the expectation of a gta/saints row clone, so...

I was gonna say the same game. I bought it long ago but didn't have a good enough PC but I just got a gaming PC and have been trying a bunch of my new old games out and Sleeping Dogs is just amazing. I had forgotten I owned it since I hadn't been able to play it and don't really remember having known much about it when I bought it.

KickBeat on PS Vita. All 18 tracks are my favorite now. I play it at least once a week, and try to get all red stars. Not going to buy it on Steam, cause those 6 enV tracks are importable via BYM, but I recommend to everybody, who likes HARD rhytm games, and most importantly have a controller.

I got Psychonauts from Humble Bundle V, and I didn't play it until a couple days ago (and even then I was just planning on getting the trading cards and selling them off and not ever touching the game again). I didn't think I'd like it because it sounded too weird. And now I'm thinking it's my favorite game. Go figure.

Bit.Trip Runner. I bought it on a whim during the winter sale when it was ridiculously priced at about one euro and it blew my mind. That game is pure win. Just not for the ADHD generation.

GTA IV

Why you might ask? Well, first, I never got to play this game until that sweet Amazon offer came out, so I got the game, installed it and tweaked graphics options to the possible minimum. Last time I tried to run the game, it was a pirated version, and back then I didn't know much about graphics card and all that shit, plus the fact that I thought I had a good pc. My surprise when I first ran the game? Like 5 fps, totally unplayable, so I uninstalled it right away.
But now I managed to make it run, and what a surprise. Game is awesome, I don't get why lots of people said the game was boring compared to older GTA titles, and some even said the game was bad. Well, I found nothing bad about it, really fun, new exciting stuff, better graphics and physics, and a kinda different story. Yea, maybe Niko is a boring character, but if you can get past that, the game is sweet as hell, and the more I play it the more I like it.

Solar 2. I dismissed it as another space trade/fight/explore sim (which I wouldn't particularly like), then I tried it and discovered a fun, humorous, challenging action game than ran perfectly on the modest hardware I'm using these days.

Can't remember the name of the game... I just can't... And I can't log into Steam (because Steam is fucking with me again), but it was a game that has been given away a while ago... Point and click about ghosts, by something-eye...
