"that's even better than Mosaico's developer here on SteamGifts telling us that they didn't encourage people to vote on Greenlight for their shit by giving free Steam key of the program to anyone who commented on their greenlight page"
... you're kidding me, right? You've got to be kidding me.

TB did a video about the incident which shows the evidence for his argument including correspondance, things the devs have said on steam and so on. One of the things he shows is them offering 50 free steam keys to be green lit.

I'm following this and the Dark Matter "Congratulations, you finished the game, click anywhere to return to the menu" thing with contrasting feelings.

Probably to let people who don't watch TB's videos know about the dev's actions.

Pretty much what Desidiosus wrote, I found it actually interesting and related to video games in a way that could also interest some people here who are not the TB's regular audience but purchase games.

Why are devs doing things like that? They know who TB is, they know what he does and they sure as hell know how well-known he is. So by removing his video, they're just making it worse, which should have been clear from the start.
That was such a ridiculously dumb move from them, I just can't comprehend it...
"Oh hey, this famous YouTube personality is talking bad about our game, let's get rid of the video, I'm sure TB and everyone else will just forget about it!"
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh please. Their actions were stupid. Perhaps they were unethical as well but they were mostly stupid. Stupid people create things all the time.
Comment has been collapsed.
It isn't a stupid logic at all. A clever person is not a person who has a lot of knowledge. I have seen people becoming lawyers, but being really stupid. Stupidity is when you take the side of the rich because they offer you wealth. In the end, you will become their slaves too. So in general, even a farmer can be clever, even a person who has never been to school can be clever. For being clever is the ability to understand what's right, what's wrong, and what must be fought till death. For instance, the devs are indeed educated, but not clever. If they were clever, they would make an update/post regarding that video, in which post they would say about how sorry they are for their game being bad, or just unplayable. As this means they are in a debt for people who vote, or even bought it, they will do a harder job and they will work on a huge update which will fix a lot of problems, bugs, glitches, and make the game playable. They could also say that this update would fix many problems, but not all of them, but they will update the game once in a while, throwing out more bugs, and throwing in more awesome stuff. They could also offer a free DLC which some extra content (after they fix serious problems) to the people who already bought the game... That way they would be positive judged, just because they care.

You do realize that someone can be smart at one thing and stupid at another right? The dev could be considered intelligent for having the capacity to make a game and he could be considered an idiot because he took these actions. I realize thinking can be hard sometimes but it really is fun once you get used to it.
Comment has been collapsed.
too bad human nature suggest that people will only remember he bad things about a person thus calling him dumb and stupid. So you're saying just because of that bad decision makes him not smart anymore?
Then by your logic, everyone is dumb then (not smart) just because they have done 1 single stupid thing in their entire lifetime.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh please. That isn't even relevant. If you read my comment above I explicitly said that: "Their actions were stupid." If you want me to get equally technical I never even called him stupid directly. I heavily insinuated it. But I am done having a pissing match with you. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
not relevant? your first post says "not all devs are smart"
by that, you just said that he is dumb.
By your 2nd post, you said that their actions are stupid and just by THAT 1 SINGLE ACTION, you classified the dev as "MOSTLY" stupid. That's pretty technical and you can't argue with that anymore since you're caught in a corner.
Good for you to just stop replying since you're not going anywhere with your argument
Comment has been collapsed.
Well actually I was going to stop replying because you and this argument have no merit. I don't understand why you decided to make an argument. Are you secretly the game developer because otherwise I see very little reason to defend him. Like I said PISSING MATCH. Lol goodbye.

The system they use for copyright claims on Youtube is pretty bullshit, but then again it's mostly down to the companies not understanding that they're getting free advertising and pulling things down left and right, RE: Sega, Nintendo, etc. In this case, the devs just decided they never want anyone to buy one of their games.

I honestly have absolutely no idea as to why people watch TB's videos. He is a journalist, not a gamer.

You said the reason why people watch him in your post....

I watch him because he's a journalist, and I prefer serious, rational discussion over 12 year olds screaming into their mics (I'm looking at you, pewdiepie).

I remember watching their trailer weeks ago. At first I thougt it was a remake of Revelations 2012.

See, I actually appreciate him going right for the throat on stupid people on the internet who talk about things they know nothing about as if they're an authority on the matter. I don't believe on pulling punches when people stick their noses out like that. Sometimes public shaming is a good thing, as it is in this case. Agreed though, he isn't a PR person, but honestly when he goes off on somebody on twitter, reddit, youtube comments, he's almost always right.
Comment has been collapsed.
Have to agree with you here, too many damn people on the internet talking about things they know nothing about on the basis that they feel the need to have an opinion on EVERYTHING. The fact that its now accepted as standard that you have to put up with said people or you're an asshole is equally annoying.
Comment has been collapsed.
Anybody who knows anything on the matter knows that Youtube didn't do anything wrong, the devs did. The devs are abusing the DMCA. When you issu a DMCA take-down notice, you have to certify that you believe the media is violating your copyright. In this case, the devs should know that the media isn't violating their copyright, for several reasons.
1) They gave TotalBiscuit permission when they sent him review code.
2) They gave blanket permission to everybody to remove games.
3) They have not acted as though the legitimately believed it was a violation of their copyright becuase they only removed TotalBiscuits video.

I love how this entire discussion, here and across the internet has boiled down to:
I hate TB and thus I like this news even though the implications are disastrous on so many levels.
or,
I'm not a fucking retard and I'm pissed off that this is happening.

Yes and no... If something happens to TB and his video he blows everything up. Same happened with SEGA claiming his videos as copyrighted. He was so mad, he mentioned it for a month in almost every video. That bothers me. It is okay to mention it but he is bashing it out on his fans and pushing his intellect into other people their mouth.

It's pretty vague, most of what I red is from the hub over at steam. and this

He wouldn't classify himself as one because he only looks in depth at the first part of games rather than them as a whole, generally.

review
a formal assessment or examination of something with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary.
TB has no intention of changing the product, as he doesn't have the power. In addition, TB doesn't do REviews, because he never finishes his first view. Since he doesn't finish the game, he is unable to provide an actual REview, so instead he provides first impressions and critique. He is a critic, he is not a reviewer.
Comment has been collapsed.
TBH you make his sound even worse by mentioning he does not finish any of the games.
Critics are even worse in most industries as well, most are very unappreciative of anything that doesnt meet their high standards/what they believe should be standard. This is a problem with most gamers also, if your not making the game yourself or modding it then you should only expect the vision of the dev team.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why? If you get a game that sucks and your job is first impressions, why would you continue playing? Go to something actually enjoyable. You did your job.
Comment has been collapsed.
The very job of a critic is to tell you their opinion of a game. If a game comes out that isn't good, then their job is to tell you that. There are certain features of games that you can expect from all of them. Some of the major complaints TB has about games is their lack of a good options menu and FPS's without FOV sliders.
Critics should tell you if a game doesn't live up to what is considered standard. You can't just say, "Oh, the devs wanted to make a shitty game, they succeeded, 10/10." You have to judge a game based on a set of standards. If the game doesn't meet them, then it is considered a poor game because of it.
TB Makes videos of something like 5 games a week. He doesn't have time to spend 10-20 hours one ach game, and then make his video, 5 days a week. He has time to play 1-5 hours of a game, spend maybe 3-10 hours making the video, and then upload it.

Disclaimer:
Creating this topic I wanted you to consider if you want to pay incompetent devs making what seems to be a shitty game and resolving to shady practices when it turns out some people don't like their game, whether you'd purchase it for yourself or wished to gift it to someone else. Knowing that, here's the actual post:
Seems like Wild Games Studio didn't like the TotalBiscuit's video about their game Day One: Garry's Incident, criticizing the title... so they pulled it off from YouTube claiming copyright infringement. Seriously. Since we can't see the original video for the moment, someone uploaded it to DailyMotion here so you can see for yourself what pissed them off so much.
Which gets even sillier, because devs sent him review code in the first place, according to TB on Twitter.
Here's what the CEO of WGS wrote on the game's Steam forums in topic which was closed by devs like many others, throwing bans for people bringing on the topic (topic later was reopened and at least some of bans withdrawn but they were banning critic people there long before this event):
We protected our copyright because Total Biscuit has no right to make advertising revenues with our license.

So they're telling us what actually, that they didn't realise the guy they sent game to makes his living giving his opinions about the games? I mean... What? Now I see it to be even better than Mosaico's developer here on SteamGifts telling us that they didn't encourage people to vote on Greenlight for their shit by giving free Steam key of the program to anyone who commented on their greenlight page. I'm kinda surprised it's coming not from EA et consortes but some indie devs. In the other hand maybe as indie devs they're just more desperate but even that doesn't mean they have to be that dumb as it certainly isn't going to work in their favor for them in the long run.
Here's a couple of TB's early Twitter messages originally selected by user josephgee on Reddit as some additional reference material: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
And here's his later video response. Bear in mind, he didn't start the whole public deal about this but just responded to Reddit users who found out about the issue (which wasn't that hard as you can see publicly notice about video with copyright claims instead of the actual video but kudos for them anyway).
... while developers remain awesome, linking to 'fair' review on their Facebook written by someone who is affiliated with them as he's the mod on their games forum).
Ah, that leads to the Metacritic page where until the recent events negative opinions were mysteriously vanishing. However, positive opinions started appearing, often sharing exact the same wording and similar kind of broken Engrish to one of the devs. They even issued a statement earlier this month.
We all know us, gamers so the petition to remove the game from Steam was just a matter of time.
Another interesting review by OfficialNerdCubed.
Gaming media starting to follow up: Indie statik, Gamefront, Kotaku
Edit 2: As the more stuff keeps getting posted, kinda reworked the topic, hope it's more readable now.
