Im not sure how those work, but i think the point of them is so that people with those "scripts" for auto join cant simply enter the giveaways, and people who dont spent any time on discussions wont enter them.

Final Fantasy VIII isn't a bad game

Theros was better than Khans of Tarkir

I enjoyed Watch_Dogs

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is a good game

Visible vanilla beans in ice cream are disgusting

EDIT:

MURDERED: Soul Suspect is massively underrated and deserved a lot more positive attention

Oblivion is better than Skyrim and Morrowind

I agree that Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is a good game! I prefer most of the other games over it, sure, but I still enjoyed it and rank it high on my list. Then again, I am a Kingdom Hearts fangirl. ;)

I need to get to MURDERED soon. I have it and it looks really good, but oh my gosh, such a backlog.

MURDERED: Soul Suspect got a lot of hate for not being a giant in depth investigation game. It is much more of a 3D point and click adventure that is heavily story driven. It isn't a perfect game, but it is unique and I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very sad the devs that made it went bankrupt. The game seemed like the tip of the iceberg of some very good future games.

I see you are a fan of The Cat Lady. Very good tastes

Point and click games are some of my favorites. What you've said actually makes me even more excited for it, because story driven=me being a happy bunny. I'll have to bump it up the waiting list. XD But it does suck that it apparently bankrupted the devs. =(

Thank you! The Cat Lady is fantastic, and I'm glad to find another fan of it. <3 Consider yourself whitelisted~

Unpopular opinion thread

You could as well rename it to "Blacklist emporium"

Anyway, here is mine: I have a strong and utter dislike of multiplayer-only games, especially team-based, competitive ones like Counter-Strike, DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2, and so on. But that probably depends on the fact that I'm a loner.
And I'm not too fond of the FPS genre as a whole, so Battlefields, Calls of Duty, etc...
Exceptions are those with niche elements, like the Bioshock serie.

J.R.R. Tolkien was a Hack.
Dr. Who is Garbage.
Hitchhikers Guide stories are overrated tripe embraced by basement dwellers who want to feel like they live lives worth more than the Cheeto dust gruel scraped from the bottom of their pasty white feet.
Final Fantasy - all of them - are a never ending stream of sewage, spewing forth from giant factories, bottled, with a fancy label, and consumed voraciously by the blind public.

Girls make the best gamers.

The PSVita is one of the best systems ever made.

Not getting them is the most popular response. I get them. They just are not that good. At all.

Of course I am sexist, I am a lesbian girl-gamer who has been around long enough to see how girls were treated by guy-gamers all the way back to the 70's. Just three weeks ago at a convention in Reno, Nevada I was told off by a group of 'Classic Console Gamers' because I beat them using a technique they had not thought of. The words were simple, "What you did... This is why girls don't belong playing games."

I assume you do not have a Vita? Or if you do, you do not speak/read Japanese, and therefore can not take in all the wonderful games it has to offer?

So was "Stranger in a Strange Land", but it is still one of his worst.

Good for you, you are one of the people I would probably get along with better.

There are quite a large number of Non-Anime Non-JRPG games for it. It is just best known for them.
Had a look at what you have played a lot of, just wanted to point out, it's predecessor, the PSP, had Valkyria Chronicles II on it, which also plays on the Vita, and it is much better than the first. It really is about taste, but on the whole, it is still one of the best [systems] ever made. It is almost like having a portable PS3 to be honest.

More Kanji than I can count, however, only 1006 to have a 6th grade reading level, which is enough to get by.
Or, 2136 for fluency, as in able to read a newspaper. That is 9th grade fluency.

Keep in mind, unlike English, Japanese language is simple to pronounce. The sound combinations are always a certain way, and each always have an exact length. We are discussing the Tokyo Dialect here, which is the one most would study.
Also keep in mind, Kanji are not just random. They are pictographs. They tell a story, and knowing that story is the easy path to remember them. Failing that, they are comprised of radicals, and using those radicals and strokes, they are simple to look up.

Compared to Latin based, Japanese is easy.

remembering 2136 characters to be fluent in a language seems kind of hard compared to 26 (30 in german).
what's used on a japanese keyboard?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You have to remember the spelling of the words and the definitions already, so it is not different at all.

Many use a standard 101 Key keyboard. Just an extra step of using the space bar and arrows sometimes if there are multiple Kanji to chose from.

I don't think saying girls make the best gamers is sexist, the same applying to men making better leaders. (If we can understand that these are indeed generalisations)

The genders are different and we are both better at different things, of course, girl gamers making the best gamers is something open to debate.

Feminism is indeed cancer.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Depends on which kind of feminism you mean. If you mean feminism at its base core, which is a desire for men and women to be treated equally, that's good. But the people who yell the loudest are trying to portray that women should overtake men, which solves nothing and is indeed horrible pollution. It's also irritating to see some self-proclaimed "feminists" go off the wall at the merest perceivable sleight against women. "Oh no, this movie had a damsel in distress!" So what, there's dudes in distress too, get over it. =P

Feminism used to be about equality and has already reached its goal. Now, feminism is nothing more than women being angry they have been treated how men would treat each other.

The world would be a much better place if the legality of weed and alcohol would be judged objectively and not on the basis that weed is a gateway drug. It's a gateway drug because it's illegal and it's a gateway to illegal stuff.

I'm not saying weed is epic or that it's harmless, but both the short term effects and long term effects of it are milder than that of alcohol.
I was high during an earthquake and when it struck, we were all laughing at the guy not high for hitting the door, then we started yelling at a fat girl that was having coitus in the other room cause she caused the earthquake, obviously. And honestly, being drunk during that would have made us not even feel it, so I guess weed was safer in this case.

  • Graveyards, and especially tombstones, don't make sense. They consume more and more real estate which could otherwise be used by the living and they remain there practically forever, long after those buried have any living relatives who care to even visit their graves. Burying the dead in a newly planted forest (one body under each new tree, no cask of course) would be better for this world. Alternatively, throwing the bodies into the ocean and feeding the fish would be the next best thing. For remembrance, just talk about the deceased and optionally watch some video clips of them. Much better than staring at a stone.
  • Not only female circumcision, but also male circumcision should be forbidden, and effort should be made that it's enforced worldwide (e.g. by sanctions). In fact, any other form of baby/child mutilation should be forbidden as well. Religion is not a good enough excuse to irreversibly maim the helpless. Needless to say, if adults wish to do it to themselves, they should be allowed.
  • The hymen is a myth. Even in theory it has no function, unlike practically all other body organs. The only logical explanation is that it was invented by men to control women, mostly to increase the chances that the offspring is theirs and to make it more difficult for the woman to compare their performance in bed. The fact that blood is sometimes the result of first intercourse is not because any imaginary "cherry" was popped, but just a result of forceful intercourse - i.e. young virgins are so terrified from the pain that they become all tight in vaginismus-like state, as a result this makes regular penetration so difficult that force commonly has to be used. I don't actually believe the hymen doesn't exist, but I did in the past (during the 90's) until I stumbled upon a medical book that actually had pictures. By then I managed to convince a few people, and even women (who weren't virgins), that it's a myth. This was when internet wasn't a common household, so it was a difficult thing to research, and no-one I knew ever actually saw the thing in real life. Bottom line - the existence of the hymen doesn't make sense, but yes, it very much does exist. Disappointing, isn't it?

My brother inlaw had to be circuncised at the age of 18 because i guess is thing was broken ( not a medical term ) so in most cases is not necessary but some times it is. Its was funny to watch him in pain and show him porn but for him i think it was not very nice, he had to take stitches twice.

That's not true.

The negatives far outweigh any theoretical positives.

Arguably, arguably not. In either case, it's not as simple as you make it out to be. Some people might not want to fuck around with even a remote chance of penile cancer.

Some people might not want to fuck around [...]

I like the double entendre here.

EDIT: Might as well add something to the discussion. I liked this recent NY Times article discussing the pros and cons when considering the scientific evidence, here are some excerpts:

The actual rates of urinary tract infection were 1.1 percent versus 0.1 percent, for an absolute rate difference of 1 percent. This means that 100 boys would need to be circumcised to prevent one urinary tract infection. Other studies say the number might be higher. [...]

Another benefit sometimes mentioned is a reduced risk of penile cancer. Case control studies have reported that uncircumcised men have a three times greater chance of developing penile cancer. Again, this is relative: Penile cancer is very rare in the United States, so the actual risk reduction from circumcision is very, very small. It’s estimated that more than 300,000 infants might need to be circumcised to prevent one case of penile cancer.

Some argue that circumcision can reduce the chance of contracting a sexually transmitted infection later in life. A systematic review of 26 studies found that circumcised men are at a lower risk of syphilis or chancroid. There might be some protection against herpes, but it’s less significant.

The strongest case for circumcision can be made as a benefit against the transmission of H.I.V. In Africa, where H.I.V. is much more prevalent, randomized controlled trials of circumcision have been performed. The results were quite convincing. Absolute rate reductions of 1-2 percent over one to two years were seen. Some estimate that for 10 to 20 males circumcised, one fewer man might contract H.I.V. over a lifetime. One study likened circumcision to a vaccine of high efficacy.

Again, though, these results apply to countries with a much higher prevalence of H.I.V. than we see in the United States. The protection afforded, therefore, is much less significant here.

There's more there, and the whole thing is worth a read.

Completely agree on the 2 first ones,
We're so much afraid in our own deaths that we created our own rituals that doesn't make sense. For me, the only thing that can justify a tombstone to be created, is this artistical interest, and sadly, 98% of the one in earth don't have any. But in some cases burning the corpse is the best choice, to avoid the propagation of disease. Sadly, we're so self centered as a species that we don't think that much about how our body impact our environment.
And I still don't understand why male circumcision is considerate normal and the female one barbarish, both of them are, that's all. How mutilate a baby can be socially acceptable in any way ? I'm very confuse about it. Also I saw messages about the myth who say that's more hygienic or that prevent disease... Not true at all... And my mother who is a doctor and a teacher in med school made an intervention about it.
