If you want Steam only then Realm of the Mad God might be to your liking. It's hit or miss, you either will like it or despise it.

Try Realm of the Mad God. Put a smile on my face when some lvl 1 died :)

Lord of the Rings online. Amazing lore it's lotr! and it's free to play, PLUS the content that you can "buy" is also earn-able with in game challenges.

Wolfteam WAS the best game until the ap (currency you buy with real monney) became to important now you can have 240 hp instead 200 hp with it -.- you should try AVA

League of Legends.

• Moonbase Alpha (SPACE TROLLS FOR THE WIN)
• Star Trek Online (MOAR SPACE, LESS TROLLS - awesome MMORPG, not too restrictive for F2P but a little boring on max level, good storyline though)
• Team Fortress 2 (If you've never played it, It burned out for me during those 4 years..)
• Alien Swarm (get friends!)
• APB: Reloaded (if you have a monster PC and don't mind occasional cheaters, bugs and a little bit of P2W)

• DC Universe Online (limited for F2P but fun anyway)

It depends on the sort of games you like to play. the selection on Steam is fairly limited though

Champions Online is fun, and better for newcomers than people that paid the pay to play version (like many games that have converted to f2p) because you don't miss what you never had :D

Everquest 2 has a large amount of content that you can do as a f2p and is a decent game, thoroughly recommended (and again better if you haven't played it before)

Team Fortress 2 is undoubtedly the best f2p game on Steam, though only if you like FPS

Forsaken World is ok if you like the anime style graphics, though can get very grindy

I really like Age of empires online, though that is undoubtedly much better if you buy at least one civ and the skirmish pack

Ones to avoid, Spiral Knights (gets to the stage you simply can't do anything if you don't pay money) magic tactics (it's one of the most expensive f2p games to play and is very much pay to win) Iron Marauders (very simplistic, couldn't find anything I like about it)

Never played Pox Nora or Pandors Saga would be interested hearing anything about those
