About changing comments' pages in threads/giveaways

Not 100% sure if that's what you're asking If you want to read the last comment in a thread just click on the little green arrow next to the avatar on the Discussions page.
If you have gotten a reply and you want to jump to that comment directly click permalink under the comment on the Message page.

Edit: After reading the OP again I noticed this is not really related to what you are talking about... Well... hopefully it might be helpful to someone else.

I think you meant the most recent comment, i.e. the bottom.

so you want everything reversed and for all the first time readers they have to start at the bottom and read their way to the top?

Doesn't seem to be any longer with mouse scroll, either, even for longer posts [still ends up being at most about three or four spins on the mousewheel, so about 2 or 3 seconds all told], so I'm afraid I don't really see the necessity, unless you're really hardcore about efficiency.

Shouldn't be more logical to point to the first comment in that page instead of its top?

Personally, I more often prefer being able to review the OP each page, so that sentiment is flawed, and it'd probably be more suitable to ask for an account setting to the effect of what you're asking for.

But yeah, as others have noted above, these kind of minor things are handled by scripts- cg rarely addresses interface optimization and accessibility. And, of course, the benefit of scripts is that they're easier to utilize in a manner customized to your own tastes.

Why not add one at the top and keep the one on the bottom?

Another vote for this one. It's desperately needed in this thread (I'm at page 18 out of 94, and yes, I'm actually planing to read the whole thing).
