How do I use the official steam forums?

I have a steam account of course and I know the username and password but it doesn't work on the forums and says my email address isn't tied to an account if i try to recover.

Forum account and steam account are seperated. Create a new one.

Steam forum accounts are not linked to Steam accounts in any way. Register a new forum account.
