I use it mostly to find older discussions, sometimes games giveaways.
Sometimes users too :)

I rarely use it ,but when I do use it, its mostly about searching questions people had asked in the past in their discussion, like for example not long ago , I've searched for games that gives giftable copies like Don't Starve Together .

My favorite SG search is
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/subscribed/search?q=level

I use SG archive search...useful for SG related info about the game. Or I rarely do search discussions' search as well. Mostly to find old thread from months back in order to bookmark, as bookmarking is a new feature. You can also amuse yourself with something random to search, example:
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/subscribed/search?q=Stupid
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/subscribed/search?q=piracy
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/subscribed/search?q=Tired
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/subscribed/search?q=terrible

I hardly ever use it.
And when I do, it's mostly to find users. :)

Maybe to look to specific games. It's usually for a reason

I do but not often. In rare cases when I am looking for specific games. Though, these are usually the ones currently in bundles or similar and can be covered by the magnifying glass icon.
In the forum, I only use it when I am searching for a very SG specific long time thread like SGTools or 2solve.me.

I use it occasionally to pull up bundle threads if I want to check restrictions on a key I'm giving away. As long as I remember what bundle the key came from, that's often the quickest way to get that info.

I very rarely use it myself. Rare occasions I'll use it for the deals to go back to old hb monthly. I would use it for play a win but its easier for me to go to one I have book marked, click on sams face and go to their threads instead. Otherwise I will type play a win realise I'm wrong since its play a game and never remember it for the next time I forget to bookmark the new month
I have tried for threads I've read then want to go back to, but without knowing the title its not easy to use the search function. I do have better luck typing roughly what I remember it saying then using google to find it

If you add site:steamgifts.com to a Google (or whatever) search, you will only get results from Steamgifts. That probably will work better than the search here.
For example, if you Google or Bing "site:steamgifts.com Are you searching" (without the quotes), this discussion is the first thing that will pop up

Search is bookmarked. Its how I open the site every time I come here because I want to enter for games I'm interested in
search wishlist.

Occasionally I use it to find the odd giveaway I entered by accident or a thread I remember. I do have Enhanced Steam Gifts installed. But I have filtered over 10K games, so odds are I don't need it to find the game I entered anyway.

If I see a game I am interested in, I will search for any other giveaways of that game. I also use search within message history to find a certain comment. Otherwise I will use a search engine if I'm trying to find something where perhaps I don't know the exact word I am looking for (like generally discussion topics or giveaway descriptions)

Type the game name on the search box on the homepage. Or click the magnifying glass icon on a game page
For searching your messages, click the envelope icon, type text in search box. Results are shown like below!
Descriptions are googleable if they are public giveaways. You can google something like:
site:steamgifts.com inurl:giveaway "key from fanatical"

Yes, exactly. Basically some google operators you can use:
site: the domain name of the site you want to search
inurl: a word exists in the URL of the page
intitle: a work exists in the page title (for SG this is the discussion topic or giveaway name)
(Because google tries to be smart(tm) sometimes it does not strictly follow these commands, but should be close enough to what you are looking for.)
site: intitle: and inurl: also work on DuckDuckGo.
site: and inurl: also work on Yandex search.
site: and intitle: also work on Bing search.

how and where you search for a game?

Replace the number with the AppID of the game you want to search.

hello!
this is about search function on SG. with or without extensions and/or scripts. question is simple: do you use SG Search?
would be awesome if you add a bit of related info (i.e. "i do not search 'cause i'm lazy!", "i do search! is truly great at finding certain games" ...), also.
thanks a bunch!
