Seems like a simple thing to remember in my accounts settings instead of having me enter it every time I visit the page of a mature-rated game.

Probably because of some privacy problems. They would need to add a privacy information and such stuff (where you would have to agree it). Is it so difficult to simply enter a new year when you want to see 18+ games?

And it also serves as a small warning.

Because it's not actually about your birthday at all. It's about covering their own asses so that nobody can accuse them of exposing minors to mature material.
I bet they are logging each entry separately whenever you visit such a page so they can show what you declared to the blue boys in case they turn up.

Those days aren't even validated. I wonder if there is any stats, how many over 100 year olds is there compared to rest of population. And is 1.1 over presented as a birthday or 31.12...

The age verification on another site also rejected ages beyond a hundred. Apparently, Steam store caters to senior citizens of up to 113 years of age.

About validation: Thanks for the heads-up. I haven't even tried that. From now on, my birth date is February 31th, 1901.

in the end it's because some people cant handle gore or are offended by certain subjects so if you see the birth date verification thing it's just them giving you a small warning

Can't you make honey out of almost every flower? I mean, you only need bees to mess around with them. I've had dandelions, but as part of salads.

And you are the only honey I need :3

Well my Steam technically remembers my birthday. It's automatically inputted when I enter pages with mature content, but Steam still always asks my birthday when I visit them. I think it's pretty strange that Steam remembers the date of my birthday but still asks it every time. Well, it's just a minor inconvenience, I'm not complaining here.

The age is saved as a cookie and not on the servers, when you delete your cookies you will have to enter the birthday again. I think it also serves as a small warning for 18+ games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Unless you accidentally enter the wrong year, in which case it never forgets.

Permalink

Gods, yes. I have no idea why it does that apart it being some kind of antikid protection. Either that or trolling.
Alas i know it's stored in a cookie file, but i like my theory better.
