Don't ever trust links, especially trade links , the scamming bots usually use a line like "you won a csgo item, open the link" or "a old friend is trying to add you on steam but can't find you, follow this link" stuff that like that you should always avoid clicking.

make sure you're 100% positive it's https://docs.google.com/**** nothing before, anything after /

Yeah I've seen this scamming technique before.. the link was ending with something like ?download which forces the download of the document you're viewing on Google Docs and some virus can be placed inside such a Doc. Just be more wary and check the full link before you actually click something that's sent from a stranger.

Nice, bully him about it. -_- He did a mistake, he accepted it, and he said that he's ashamed. Is there a reason to accuse him?

Should have told him to put it on PasteBin. You'd never get infected from a PasteBin link.

while i normally say avast sucks, it's probably a file that infects office or whatever opens it, i wouldnt think much of it IF the url was truly google, it's like downloading a virus without running it, it doesnt do anything
maybe you should submit the url or file to virus total, examine it a bit & have multiple scanners give it a name

Luckily you didn't run the executable since the avast blocked it on time. You have nothing to worry about in this case, however you have to be extra careful in the future :)

Why not open such a link in a sandboxed browser (i think sandboxie could also help preventing damage).
Q: You are showing your inventory to everyone - isn´t this the danger source ? With 27sites in your inventory maybe you are a most searched victim for bad people

My advise, if you want to trade DON'T OPEN ANY LINKS that you receive from the other guy, DON'T ACCEPT any private profile, and if you did this , then change your password immediately ;). Also report them with any occasion, maybe we will get rid of them :)
Have fun with your trades ;)

Well, if I get it well, you clicked on an evil link, AVAST detected the threat and blocked it, right ? Then you should be safe from that. I guess there's an option to reboot the computer and make the antivirus do a full PC scan, if you want to do some security check.
The totally secured computer is in a locked room with no netword access. And it is shut down !

Are you talking about something new and quite magical I never heard of, like some "tempest" system for hard drives ? Or are you just circumventing the facts by sneaking into the locked room and plugging the hard drive into another computer (which would be turned on of course !) ?

Sounds better than a scary tempest-like system for hard drives :)

I think, that if you dont open it, nothing wrong happened....i always click on links from all messages, even when i am almost sure, that is just another try to scam, but my browser always ask where to download, so i always cancel it, if i see some image.scr and then report on steam. Still nothing happend, never lost Steam account.
But never got something like Google Docs

Some useful advice from me this time: always make some check-out questions with trader to avoid bots. "Do you like roses"? for example. It's rare from bot to answer.

formatting sounds like a good advice
btw love your profile pic, time to get Schwifty :P

Formatting is always the safest thing you can do.
HOWEVER
if you haven't done that yet, you can do another check:
Also. Type in ^^
If you have to type it twice, as usual, everything is fine. If you hit the key once and both ^^ come up, it's a sign for a keylogger.
Change your passwords from a different PC aswell :)
Hope I could help you a little, if you have any other questions, your welcome :)

Hello. You must change your steam password too. Maybe do a search for files that your pc downloaded this day, because you never know what files may be lurking inside your pc. And of course, never click on any links. There are also links that are similar to steam links, like steamcoNmunity (I wrote N in caps on purpose, in order to see that there's a different letter). Also, Avast is a free antivirus, right? May I suggest that you'll use a professional antivirus to do the search, because maybe a free Antivirus isn't good enough (I don't know, but I'm saying it in order for you to be 100% sure that everything is ok).

Well, I personally prefer Eset and also Emsisoft. It's your choice though.

Accepted a request from Steam from some guy who wanted to trade. He gave me a link to a Google Docs page claiming that was his list of games but when I click it, a file downloaded. Avast! (Antivirus Software) managed to catch it immediately and isolate it. I also did a full scan of my PC to made sure no other threats were around. However, is there any other precautionary methods I should still do to ensure everything is fine?
EDIT: Fuck it, gonna hard reformat my whole PC. Can't be too sure about this. Shame on me for trusting random "traders".
EDIT 2: Formatted and reinstalled everything. Nothing out of the ordinary yet, everything seems intact. Hopefully I'm in the clear.
