Bulletstorm - good way to blow up some steam after work.
And while being technically a TPS not a FPS - Spec Ops: The Line. After that I was unable to play any FPS for next few weeks. The story messed up with my mind so much. I recommended it to a friend. He quit during level 8, and never finished the game, claiming that it is too disturbing. He also haven't touched any shooter for few weeks after that - it caused some sort of post-traumatic syndrome. We recommended it to one more guy. He completed this, but he had to take two week long break from gaming after levels 8 and during level 11. And we are not some sensitive teenagers, We were gamers before anyone could buy any decent CD based console. Maybe because we are adults, with responsibilities we acted harder to this game than someone who just finished high school or college.
Fun fact - none of us considered Hatred too violent to play, but too dull to play.

Everybody knows about it, but the question is who has played it. Goldeneye N64!

No-one Lives Forever 1 & 2
Well, by now it's pretty well known as an extreme case of being stuck in Publishing Hell. But not many people know how good those games really are from being able to play them.
Edit:
The Terminator: 2029 & The Terminator: Future Shock
Full off wonkiness that would become a Bethesda signature, but introduced quite a number of good ideas too. (less-linear gameplay, light RPG elements, etc.).

Used to be a huge fps fan when I first played wolfenstein 3D and later Doom 1. Anyway, now I really hate blunt First Person shooters- so Spec Ops: the Line was one of the very few I played the past time. It's actually a FPS/Movie... the story is incredible.
Also I have to name "Noone lives forever" ... Basically James Bond but with a female agent- it's has a hilarious and great story line and a very deep atmosphere.
Anyways... someone remembers Corridor 7 or Blake stone?
