TF2 and CSGO keys (the ones you open crates with) are literally a sort of Steam currency with traders. You can buy them on the market (or via people who want paypal for them). Dota 2 keys are also considered, but those are not going to exist anymore soon.
Basically, if you trade keys for games you never have to worry about finding a specific trade partner when trading games (i.e. I want to trade Sleeping Dogs for your Far Cry 3). People set a price in keys, you use the keys to "buy" the game. What key trading allows you to do is purchase games from other regions i.e. Russia. 99% of games released in Russia are REMARKABLY cheaper than anywhere else. Therefore, Russians tend to have great prices on games. Take the upcoming release "The Talos Principle". This game is roughly $30 or so in every region, but the Russian price equals about $12.50 give or take. This game will likely never be region locked, so trading in keys allows you to buy the game for a little more than that (in this case 6-7 keys) as most high level traders want to make a little profit. People want them because they always sell on the market and they're just easy to get rid of in that respect. Its literally a form of Steam "money." Lots of traders also will take refined metal or Tour of Duty Tickets as kind of "change" to keys. If a bundle hits and you only want 1 game from that bundle, no doubts you'll be able to find a trader who will take a couple of refined or a ticket for it. With Steam accepting all sorts of currencies now, this opens up a lot of new trading partners. Malaysia and Indonesia have good prices on games a lot. As does Brazil sometimes. If there are price mistakes in these regions (as seen with Evolve recently) you can trade keys to get a game that had a price mistake in Indonesia. IE I got Evolve for 4 keys. You can also find traders that will take keys for games sold on other sites as well. The key here is to deal with people who have lots of rep and have built up some trust. You can't trade with just anyone and you have to be aware that scams are a possibility if dealing with things outside the trade window.
Occasionally games are region or trade locked and this happens a lot with AAA games. However, a lot of times this happens after release, so its possible to get a game on the trade market super cheap in pre-order. I cant even begin to tell you how many times Ive gotten $59.99 games for 60-75% off in PRE-ORDER. So far, as long as you activate the game before anything changes, you will not have to worry about Steam removing your access to the game. Its critical to activate games that may be locked immediately to avoid this.
I buy almost all of my games for keys now and only when a game is locked or very similar in price will I buy directly from my region's store. Its too easy to save money this way and you can get some absolute steals of deals. IE Shadow Warrior was 75% off this week. That was selling for as little as 2 TF2 keys. It was actually as little as 1 TF2 key because of a stackable coupon, but without the coupon it was still 50% cheaper than Steam price at that % off via traders.
Do yourself a favor and go over to Steamtrades and look around at the ads. Read a bit. You'll pick up on it fast.

Yes, game keys are very tradable/sellable. This is what falls under when I said "Trading outside the window". Its more of a chance you'd be scammed dealing with those than with gifts. Try to stick to traders with high amounts of rep when you're starting out with CD keys (as you'll be asked to go first when you start out) that clearly know what they're doing and have proven to be trustworthy.
I have a thread on ST that I trade all of my excess bundle stuff in that I dont use for GAs. I also will trade games I buy on Amazon when they have sales for keys or other games. Just be careful and stick to high level traders at first. Once you build up some rep it'll be less of a worry cause they'll be the ones going first.
I'd also recommend installing "Enhanced Steam". This is a browser add on that adds a lot of info to someone's Steam profile. IE links to their Steamgifts and Steamtrades profiles. Its a good way to double check that the person you're talking to is the one you met on ST. Enhanced Steam does a lot more than that and really is useful for everyone, even if you dont trade.

You have been very helpful, thanks a lot, maybe I can finally get my hands on a copy of Tomb Raider through some sort of trade because I've had no luck trying to win one. I've gotten my hands on Witcher 2, Far Cry 3 and Max Payne 3 through trades on other forums but I've had no luck with TR (don't have much left to trade, mostly in game currency stuff).

Are CPU requirements to be taken seriously nowadays? For all kinds of games? I'm not trolling or being ironic, it's an honest question. The CPU minimum requirement seems disproportionally high compared to the GPU one to me.

Honestly as long as you have something like an i3 or even an older Q6600/Athlon X4 you can run pretty much any game fine....maybe not great but fine...well besides WatchDogs but thats just bad porting, I don't count that nonsense.
Comment has been collapsed.
Currently, I have a Pentium G860. Passmark score is basically the same as a Q6600, but it's a dual core. That's my main concern.
Comment has been collapsed.
Q6600 almost maxed FarCry 3 for me at 40-60fps, unless this is that bad a port you should be ok...I hope, we all hope.

Not really... there are still hundreds of great games you can play and enjoy. Right?

the worst part about that is how graphics still look like far cry 3.an slightly upgraded fc 3 but yeah. and all of this is happening only because microsoft has stopped the dx9,10 support. so disapointing
Comment has been collapsed.
dx10 is like 7 years old now. at some point they just have to drop it. i am fine with that.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's perfectly possible to run a DX10 card using DX11. This has nothing to do with Microsoft. If a DX11 card is required it's because its features are used by the game.
I imagine that the developers didn't see fit to address DX10 cards because these aren't powerful enough for the game anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep, as a developer dealing with graphics I can confirm that DX11 has a lot more features and is easier to use than DX10. These features can not only improve the looks but also the speed by transferring workload from the CPU to the GPU. DX11 with shader version 5.0 is a dream, hail Microsoft.

Lel bitch please my Intel Chipset can run this on ultra+

Im glad to see that they actually allow the older, lower spec pc's to match the minimum requirement but the leap between the minimum and optimal is crazy.
Comment has been collapsed.
it's actually not so dumb, since you can sell your old graphics card for a reasonable price. i will buy a GTX 970 soon for maybe 250-300€. i can sell my old GTX 770 (bought last year) for like 150-200€, and i can sell the free game i get (e.g. AC Unity) with the new card for 25€. so it's really not that much money for a 50% performance upgrade. if i waited another year, the price on ebay for the 770 would drop significantly.
EDIT: and if you don't see a difference in BF3 between HBAO+ off and on, you must be blind. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I may be blind but you probably have a memory disorder because HBAO is enabled in both ultra and high presets :)
http://imgur.com/a/S9t1n personally I dont see a jaw dropping difference between these screenshots..
Comment has been collapsed.
oh, you can definitely tell the difference in the game.

but ok, you got me with the high preset... xD

30GB harddrive space required? :O I think they need to optimize that shizzle!
Comment has been collapsed.
Its probably because there's far less compression. I don't see this as a bad thing necessarily. It can be helpful for those with lesser machines so the resources aren't as taxed and shows why the requirements are relatively low compared to say, Assassin's Creed Unity. That's the one I'm worried about in respect to optimization.
Any hobbyist PC gamer should have a decent sized HDD now though. Its only become more of an issue as games get more and more advanced. COD, Wolfenstein, Unity, Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2k15, Titanfall, just off the top of my head are all relatively recent and very large space takers.

Fx-6300 here too, I'm right i'll run that game on medium settings

Here go my hopes for black friday to get a good discount on an GTX 970 or at least an a 770.

I am almost willing to bet FarCry 2 will still look better and runs on less then FarCry 4....so this is still really unacceptable. Never mind physics/effects being better in 2....
Most think 3 looks better but all that amounts to is people liking the color palettes better really....and jesus christ did they fuck up the fires in 3, fires were tons of fun in 2....
I get about 40-60fps in FC3 and about 70-120 in FC2...it makes no sense and from what this is saying its gonna get worse in 4, thanks Ubisoft...
I loved all 3 Far Crys but jesus they need to stop this... -_-
Comment has been collapsed.
Most people didn't notice, I sure did though, I played a lot of FC2(Had it off steam for a long time).
I do hope FC4 turns out great though, I really do...

Well just by looking at how Ubisoft are doing the same as they did with Unity and are posting insane req, so that they have the excuse to say "It's your PC, not our game. If you want to play the game at high buy it on Console", i'm thinking that it will be a bad port. That said it's nothing new for AAA games these days, most of them have terrible ports, bad textures and a lot of DLC. Triple A games became garbage i rarely look these days. It's seriously surprising to see games like Shadow of Mordor and Alien Isolation these days (good AAA PC ports).

What framerate and resolution are those specs targeting ?

I bought a new pc in parts this month.
My PC:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit version
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.0 GHz
Memory: 16GB
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 OC
Hard Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB

I dont want to feel me stronger with it.
I just wanted to tell you what i have in my pc right now.
Comment has been collapsed.
I am building right now also, looking at it here, first call would be a bit over a grand, i7 is overkill for gaming though, might as well save 100 dollars or so and get the newest i5.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes i know that this i7 is overkill for gaming but i sold my old setup and build this new pc.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well the latest ones actually pretty good, most games see a 5-10fps difference from the latest i5 to i7, I am debating the i7, Microcenter has some damn good cpu/mobo combos...
Its more about running everything else faster with the i7 for me though, photoshop/lightroom and such...I don't use my PC for gaming only like some.
Comment has been collapsed.
I payd about 1.500€ in parts...its a lot for a pc but i go to work every day and i sold my old pc for this.
These are the part:
i7-4790K 4.0GHz
Corsair H105
G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Samsung 850 Pro Series 1TB
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 OC 4GB WINDFORCE

I will be able to run this on high without any issue. My 3-year old computer is starting to show it's age... can't run the newest games on ultra anymore.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't feel bad, its not your computer...its bad porting if you ask me, I mean look at the trailer, doesn't even look that good...shit its Ubisoft, TotalBiscuit got stuttering on WatchDogs with SLI Titans....
So yeah nothing we can do, personally I would have pre-ordered it if it was well put together, I own 1-3, I hope its at least fun...I hope its not another downgrade, loved 3 but I have to face it, 2 was superior in many ways(Physics/effects/Hardcore elements/etc..), they need to learn from that game, if they could fuse the good ideas of 2 and 3 together it would be pure bliss, I doubt it though, would scare away casual gamers....
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not getting it until it's at least 50%-75% off anyway, so chances are I will actually have upgraded by then. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Depends on how fast it drops, pretty sure I saw Watch Dogs for close to 50% already. I should have my i5/290 build by then also...though so I am not worried, just disappointed in Ubisoft once again....
Comment has been collapsed.
why do you compare that game to watch dogs? that doesn't make too much sense, sorry (except you want to bash ubisoft a little ;) ). instead compare it to FC3, which most likely has the same engine. FC3 ran pretty well on PC, actually. i am confident that FC4 will run just fine (and for sure won't be a desaster like watch dogs).
Comment has been collapsed.
You might be right but if you look at how FC2 runs compared to FC3 you would see the performance going down a lot, along with graphics. Ubisoft in general has been bad at porting lately, its not just WatchDogs, thats just a recent incident.
I am looking forward to the game, not exactly bashing it, really wanna play it actuallu, just fear for it, I am a big fan of the series since the first one.
Comment has been collapsed.
Probably will be able to run this at medium, maybe high. I have an I7 processor at 2.4 GhZ; and a GeForce GTX 860m.
