Just a quick question, since I'm a little confused about something. You said there is a group which will be used for the participation giveaway. I'm guessing since there will be multiple events you will clear the group once an event ends and repopulate it for the next event each time?
Also, cool idea in general. i love rhythm games and was aware of osu!, but kinda just never went out of my way to play it (although i once tried it a really long time ago), so i guess this is a good way to try it out again.

Thanks for the explanation. And two more questions:
How should we go about submitting a better score if we get one. Do we just edit and replace the submission we already made, do we do another submission, do we reply to our submission?
Do we put submissions for both types (standard and with difficultly change) in a single comment, or do we make separate comments for them?

edit Both are fine, as long as comments have an indicator to show they're updated I should notice. I did put down that new comments were preferred, but I didn't want to responsible for any spam :D. You can put the submission for both types in the same comment.

I downloaded it for the first time. Went through the tutorial . Tried and failed the song "No pain no game" on easy 20 times. And finally managed to get by barely with 61,686. Tried and failed on Normal 25 times for an hour.
Yeah, I don't think I can keep up with this game. I probably should have started with a lower difficulty maybe a song under 1 star. Then again, I'm only okay at rhythm games like guitar hero and DDR, so this whole moving mouse while keying X or Z is pretty difficult to get used to.

You're right it does get a little easier. Still insane speed jump from Easy to Normal though. The toughest part for me is moving my mouse with precision. I changed my mouse sensitivity at least 10 times to get the right precision.

hahaha just no to the mouse click. And yes just type tutorial and it should pop up. but yeah even with the tutorial and watching a youtube tips and tricks, it's still incredibly difficult.
Looks like you did pretty well though.

What is Osu?
Umm...
I'm looking forward to the event.👀

Glad to hear, I think its a false positive, since I've been using the site for nearly 3 years now without issue.
If I shorten it to https://osu.ppy.sh/ it doesn't come up with any detections.

For what its worth I probably started out on much easier stuff than a 2.27 so you did fine - and the harder version can be a nice challenge. When you first try to play them it feels like everything just flashes before you and then you fail, it does change with time :D

I didn't know OSU was on mobile! I played it years ago (like pre-2013 years ago), and it would hopefully be so much easier to play with a touch screen and stylus!
PS Did you use Opsu (the open source beatmap player)?

I used osu!lazer :)
(And while maybe not easier, it is definitely more enjoyable with a touch screen imo, just takes some getting used to)

I've played a lot of LLSIF and Bandori on my phone but haven't really played OSU. Might try another time, my good computer and mouse is in another town right now and my laptop is too shit for this.

Well, there's the idol gacha aspect of those games that hooked me rather than the actual gameplay. I'll at least have my computer in a few weeks, but I'll see if I have the time and memory to try it out.

Is LLSIF the Love Live game? I used to play that a lot, but kinda got mad when all my slots filled out and stopped playing. I remember that out of the mobile rhythm games it was one of the only ones that I liked since it was actually a decent difficulty. Most other games were quite easy, but that one gets crazy on the higher difficulties.

Yeah I'm talking about Love Live School Idol Festival. I haven't kept up with the game in a while (SIF All Stars is the new thing) but there isn't really a slot issue in the game anymore. But honestly just looking at difficulties, Bandori songs can easily become a nightmare, and skill activations are more scarce there so you have less stamina to mess around with.

Yeah I remember that some of the diffculties were quite crazy but I could somehow skimp by on most of them with a team centered around healing and not really caring about points. I might jump on it again, but maybe be a bit more casual about it and just play the difficulties I can for points.

I gave it a try and holy hobs, I forgot how demanding osu can be lol

I did better ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ https://ibb.co/Wvyz3Gn
also I blame you entirely for the fact that I went to sleep at 3am last night looking for new maps to play lol

Got an image Here. My account is restricted (probably because my user was inactive for about 4 years) so I couldn't link to my Osu page score and instead had to do a screenshot. I'll probably try again later anyways, but just in case wanted to go ahead and post my current highest score.

OSU SG Event (Proof of Concept)
Hi all,
I've been thinking of an event idea which involves one of the games I play the most outside of Steam which is Osu. What is Osu? Its a rhythm game where you click on the required circles and sliders at the right time in time with the music to score points by being accurate and building up a combo by not missing.
This event is like a looking to play and a (hopefully) regular event combined.
The concept
The general idea is that I will post a beatmap for the game and there will be a contest to see who can score the highest. The beatmap will rotate every week, few weeks or possibly a month. Every detail is open to change
If you participate, you will be able to enter the participation giveaway which will be available to everyone who submits a score, this will be done through a group. Note: The group is a way of making sure that participation giveaways are not leaked, and it doesn't really have any other reason for existence. You will still be able to win the main prizes without joining the group.
Then, for those who get the highest scores, there will be direct prizes. There's a prize for the top score without difficulty increase mods and another for the highest score with difficulty increase mods. You can submit a score for each category and you can technically win both categories and if you do you will get the grand slam prize. You can also submit multiple scores, this is all about playing and improving, so you can submit scores knowing that your best will be the one that counts in a particular category.
To submit your score, press F12 after finishing the beatmap to take a screenshot and then upload it and post it in the topic. An example of a valid score will be here (Note that the mods you apply to your run will need to be visible to determine if your score is a modded or unmodded run. Once you have submitted your score you can apply for entry into the steam group to enter the participation giveaway.
The trial event
For this proof of concept the beatmap will be Nano - No pain, no game which has a difficulty of 2.27. This is a relatively easy beatmap but this is so I can gauge the overall ability of the people who wish to take part, if you're an experienced player do not worry as if this were to become a regular event there would be multiple difficulty categories and harder beatmaps to provide a more robust challenge. Also hopefully the difficulty increase category will allow you to modify things more to your liking.
The event will go on for 2 weeks (Until 22/08) and is open to all levels, this is about playing and having fun (and the journey of improvement) - CV isn't a factor here!
The prizes
You know how to score points, but what are the prizes!?
Participation: Townscaper (GA)
Standard Bonsai Castles
w/ Difficulty Increase(s): Bonsai Castles
Grand Slam Prize: In the event that the same individual wins both categories, they will receive the game listed above and will have the oppurtunity to receive a game of the equivalent value as a Steam gift (Based on prices in my region) - This can be given to the winner but is also transferable to someone else if they wish.
End paragraph bit
Thanks for reading through, or even clicking on the thread - if you have any feedback please comment as I'm sure there are things here which need tweaking in order to make this event better. Regardless, you should have a giveaway for your troubles
