I'm certainly disappointed too, but so it goes. My major hope is that the physical collector's edition is released with Steam keys once the game gets on Steam, cause I do (did?) want that. I don't mind competition, I'm really hoping it'll end up being good in the long run, but I would just strongly prefer to have the game on a more established platform/ be able to more readily take advantage of the social aspects that are a big part of a game like this. At least I'll get to see what the game's all about before I buy it. I get it, at the end of the day. 100% makes fiscal sense for Gearbox, I just wish the Epic Store was in more comparable shape. But hey, at least it's six months and not a year. I have plenty backlog to keep me distracted.

I think it's ridiculous to make these games exclusive to one specific launcher, when you still don't provide a community or easy life improvements.
they could also use other payment methods, not everyone has paypal for example. This isn't really competition but whatever, i guess i have to nibble a bit from all the 6/7 launchers i got. and not leave them all open, because steam itself already uses chromium.

Guess what game I wont buy.
But Gearbox was always money grabber. They got the bribe from Epic Fail and they just did it. Hypocrites. "Who cares about what platform You are playing on"... yeah... Gearbox care, cause they will release the game on just one, removing the freedom of choice.

Randy Pitchford is from Gearbox, right? He is the hypocrite. So it's not just 2K. It's Gearbox too.
For me that doesn't matter who made the decission if Gearbox was too for making the game exclusive. Randy said it himself.

You have to be kidding. He said multiple times that they are not responsible for any decisions regarding the sales. Besides he never openly said that "yes Im all in for making BL3 exclusive for Epic store", all he ever said was some shit about "its nice that there is competition and its a good thing and they are excited to support Epic in future". He can be all happy to support Epic but he doesnt get to say jack shit when it comes to publishing
The decision of making it an exclusive came from 2K (and also from Take Two as I dont believe 2K would go on their own with such big decision without consulting it with Take Two). They are the greedy fucks that got bought. Gearbox has nothing to do with it. Their asses are owned by whoever publishes their games, 2K being their publisher in this moment.
Just like with many other studios, developer =/= publisher

I said already, I don't care who is responsible. But Randy SAID it, no matter if directly or not, but he said this, that exclusivity is a cool option. Don't fool around. He wouldn't say "Yes, we will be releasing BL3 on Epic Store" but he said that exclusivity isn't bad and why does this matter where they sell. It was indirect hint that they were going to do that and he doesn't mind. YOU gotta be kidding if You deny this.
Also You quoted his words too, so You know it already. He is damn hypocrite. Competition? Well, he doesn't support it.
And I will say it again, I don't care that 2K made the decision if Randy, i.e. Gearbox, was OKAY with it. He would probably do the same if he was in charge.
And You should read carefully what I wrote. Cause I didn't mistake publisher with developer. I just said that developer WAS OKAY with the decision publisher made, so they are in the same shoes.

If Randy Pitchford stated that he had no influence in the decision, then it translates to that he very much asked Take Two to do it. That man has proven to be a notorious liar so many times, you should automatically reverse all his statements to get something akin to the truth.

Gonna do the same as I did with Metro Exodus and will do with the new Obsidian game. Pirate it, play it and purchase it on Steam after a year.
There's NO way Epic will get me. Fuck those assholes.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's an Epic Store exclusive. There is proof that Pitchford is a whore... Btw, awesome news! <3

I strongly hope that on day one there will be announcement when the game will be coming on steam.

For the second time in my life, I was interested in a collector edition.. well, on pc only digital plus temporal epic store exclusive === Ok, seems that the only collector I'll buy will be Cyberpunk 2077
BUT...
That f**kin' amazing BL3 cover, I love it! I feel the need of a poster ^_^

Hey, was just wondering whether you might be on Epic's payroll? Defending them in multiple comment threads, belittling people who don't like it... I have seen a similar pattern with a few users across different gaming media (mind you, it goes beyond regular fanboys, for example there is a user on PC Gamer that lurks under every article concerning Epic and responds, in this manner, to pretty much every negative comment there), got curious whether Epic actually employs an army of internet trolls or not since you seem to have an inside info (apparently you have their sales numbers).

Here comes the belittling again. You know that you can voice your opinion without shitting on the opposition, right? It might actually even give your arguments more weight.
On one hand you are complaining about people who hate on Epic (and would hate on anything that is not on Steam) yet a paragraph above that you admit that you blindly hate Steam. That's confusing.
As for my opinion on this topic, I don't like the exclusivity route that Epic has chosen. It does not affect me personally since I rarely buy games at release anyways and have a backlog worth years of time but I still consider the way they poach games (especially with cases like Metro Exodus and Phoenix Point that were already set to release/promised keys to backers, elsewhere) a bad practise. All the more considering the state their launcher / store front is in.
Regardless, I do understand that it's a sweet deal for developers and publishers and don't blame them for taking the bait. We will have to wait and see whether Epic manages to convert the massive number of Fornite players into PC gamers that will actually buy and play other titles as well. So far it's probably not going that great since they are so desperately trying to bring in users from other storefronts that are actually used to buying games (but that is a pure speculation on my side).

Intellectual dishonesty and Epic shills. Name a more iconic duo!

Well, you had that attitude even prior to my inquiry
Lmao good news, just like Metro, B3 will sell well regardless of what small minds here and on Reddit say/want.
Anyways, I see your point and somewhat agree, I just wish they would have gotten their store up to par before pulling off the exclusivity crap, if they had a store front that offers a comparable experience to Steam before trying to force fans of different games to use it, I believe that many of the current haters would cut the some slack. I honestly don't know why they are taking so long with any features, feels like they have only one person working on it during his off hours.

Totally agree. "Bribing" developers to go exclusive with them and depriving customers (who want to play BL3 on PC) of a choice is not a cool move. And for me (and others who are in a region whose Steam prices are lower than North America's), it goes beyond "Steam fanboyism". It has cost implications for me.
If Epic wants to bring Steam users to their platform, they should offer better pricing for all regions, and better platform functionality.

For me, Steam, with its Summer and Winter Sales, made a non-pirate of me. Now all games are paid. I even pay full price for games I'm very eager to play. Steam has its flaws, to be sure, but it's not evil in any way. It has even allowed indie developers a platform to sell their games more effectively.

Does the developer or publisher decide if it's on Epic Games Store?
Because this might mean in the future RDR2 will for sure be on Epic Games Store, and not steam.
Comment has been collapsed.
RDR never came to PC and wasn't remastered for PS4/Xbone because the game was barely holding together with glue and rubber bands. There's many interviews about how they barely got everything working together. Which i why people speculate we never got nextgen ports, unlike GTA5.
RDR2 was made on 'nextgen' and wasn't as hell to make I imagine. They will probably have RDR2 ported to PS5 and Xbox4, and after that come to PC. To make people triple dip again.

Could be that the game is broken and therefor not launched on steam cause of steam reviews.

I, myself, won't say that Steam or NO, but more like - Exclusivity is for consoles, not for PC. I don't care about DRM, or if game is ALSO on EGS, but I don't like being pushed to use something that is 10 years behind Steam. I like achievements, even if I'm lazy to do them, I like my friend list, I like my workshop, I like forums and even Steam support is much better than EGS one.
I'm saying this as Fortnite Save the World player who almost lost account due to their shitty security - I don't and I won't like Epic Game Store, no matter how many free games they will throw at me - bribery, moving games few weeks before launch, using steam for free advertising. Every single developer that does that (together with Epic) can count on not getting ANY money from me. 😐

Between this and 2 unannounced indie titles I'm really looking forward to, it's pretty disappointing. I really want all 3 on Steam as I more than likely won't be doing single purchases at full price for any of them on the EGS. I wouldn't object to picking them up if they appear in a bundle on HB in the future though.

Borderlands 3 will be a Summer Sale 2020 or a Winter Sale 2020 purchase for me. Whenever I can get it for about $15 or $20. No way I'm buying through Epic Game Store, and since I'm waiting I may as well give 2K as little money as possible.

I do not agree with you. Game sales are heavily front loaded in this era, so they are frequently discounted not too long after release to fuel additional sales. In an extreme example, Fallout 76 was dropped from $60 to $40 a week after release. It is very common to see that kind of price drop within 3-6 months of a game's release.
Also, you're neglecting the fact that the Steam Summer Sale will happen about 2 months after BL3 hits Steam. The bottom line is it will not be a long wait to get the game for $20 or less from the point it hits Steam, which won't happen for half a year after it is out.
Comment has been collapsed.
true but this is happening to games that are released on steam for the first time and depending on the sales numbers they get a discount (in a few months), this is different, look at the console games that get a pc port, are they discounted on steam release? Also they know a big amount of steam users will wait for the steam release.
anyway i really hope i am wrong on this one.

I get the point you are making, but the two situations are not really comparable. A game that is exclusive on a console(s) for a while and then comes to PC can be expected to be full price because it was not available on a PC anywhere up until that point. You either have to buy it on a console or you don't play.
In this case PC gamers will have months to buy Borderlands 3 from the Epic Games Store. The most excited "gotta have it" fans will already own it long before it hits Steam. There may be a brief spike in sales when it is released on Steam, but that will die quickly and it will need to be discounted to keep selling copies.
Far Cry 5 has been out a year and is on sale right now for $20. Borderlands 3 will be no different. That's the cycle of game prices today.

Don't mention keys (0% share for steam), also if you're a dev why not sell in both store if it's only for the share? Steam has way more users than epic game store. The thing everyone's mad about is epic buying out publishers for exclusivity while their client is subpar to any in the current market (you don't even have a cart to shop, and a few weeks ago you didn't had a search bar)

Yes, and for customers in Asia, there's no regional pricing on Epic Store. We're subjected to the fluctuations of the might US$. In my country, the dollar climbed by about 25% in the last two years. It's very disappointing that 2K/Gearbox became too greedy, and made that move without considering the millions(?) of customers who patronized their games thru Steam. But, as people say, first world problem! So I guess life will go on just fine.
