Technically, its the bit beyweeen awake and rem, so you're aware of the situation but are forced to have nightmares.

I explain it like your brain is awake, but the rest of body is sleeping, and it clashes in a way that you experience nightmares while aware of your rl surroundings.

we all got sleep paralysis at least 4 to 5 times every night. if you witness it too often, try progressive muscle relaxation before you go to sleep ..

I don't. I go to sleep all tightly wrapped in my blanket, and wake up with it strewn at the end of the bed, hanging off half-way.

It's where you are sleeping and you either wake up or come to a semi-conscious state, but you can't move at all. Sometimes, you also can't breathe. It can be quite scary for some people.

I have it when I don't sleep enough and try to rest.

Nope, never had or that I remember. I heard it's bad, but is it really that traumatizing? If you have it frequently, shouldn't you be able to see that you're infact in sleep paralysis and take advantage of it? Also, I've heard that sleep paralysis is the doorway to lucid dreaming.

It's pretty traumatic, since your dreams are focused on nightmares. You either see something or hear it, and the helplessness of it makes it hard to sleep again.

I tried it once on purpose, I was hearing screams and chainsaw noises. NOPE. Not doing that again lol. But in all seriousness it was terrible

It doesn't have to be bad or traumatizing. Once you're aware than you're in this situation (sleeping, basically) and convince yourself that everything is fine, you can just close your eyes and fall back asleep.

It is what you make of it.

Yes, when I was a kid it scared me. But not now. Here in Mexico a lot of people still believes it´s a dead person on top of you...

That sounds similar to the Arabic belief, that it's the devil or a demon sitting on your chest, something along those lines

Lots of people including me may get a similar character forcing them to obey to stay paralised

I'm not a believer of supernatural things so I just see it as my brain being a cunt

Well, I think that everywhere they had some kind of "explanation" for sleep paralysis.

That used to be a common explanation in Europe, as well, but times have changed.

I would imagine that someone who currently has sleep paralysis wouldnt be online atm to answer the question.
Suffers from or has had would be more appropriate.

How would you know if you are asleep? Maybe you are dreaming that you can't move. I obviously do not understand what it is :P

It's basically like being awake but your body can't move, it's the body's way of making sure you don't act out your dreamstuff/sleep walk.

I had frequently for the last 15 years, it sucks. The first time I thought I was dying in my sleep. Now I'm getting used to, but still terrified a little bit.

Never could sleep well without an aid, its also hard to get into a healthy sleeping habit when you get it. Apparently masturbating helps... ;)

We all do. Its better to feel uncomfortable in the morning then to kill ourselves while we sleep.

I have it from time to time. Used to get really scared by it and hate it, but then I've learnt how to turn it to lucid dream.
