Well my suggestion is basically similar to the recently implemented feature of group giveaways but this time giveaways restricted and only visible to those people that had the specified game in their wishlist at the time of the giveaway creation. It could even be restricted to the top 10 games in the wishlist to prevent users from flooding their lists. Since the wishlist is already part of the sync feature of the site this should be possible. I think that the recent group giveaways option is a very good addition to the site and the more variability there is the giveaway creation in terms of restriction the better the chances are for everybody.

So what do you guys think?

Cheers and thanks in advance for any feedback

It will mean that some of the variety will go right out the window. I mean, some games on Steam aren't on any wishlists of Steamgifts users. So some games will not get a single entry because people won't be able to think 'Huh, that looks like it could be a lot of fun - I'll take a chance on that.'

Well yes that would be a possibility, however that was one of the objectives of this idea..Restrict the giveaways to those people who from the beginning actually wanted to play some particular game and even had it on their wishlist. In case one ended up not having entries the gifter could just reraffle it this time making it public.

Hmm, and then everyone will have 100 games on their wishlists. Do we want really want it?

That's why I said it could be restricted to the top 10 games (or whatever number of games thought reasonable) of each wishlist to avoid flooding of the lists.

It would be a good idea if you could sort your wishlist of give some priorities to the games. Otherwise you don't really know which game is the most important to any particular user and therefore it would be unfair to exclude them from the giveaways.

Well you can sort your wishlist..Just put the 10 games you want the most, for example, as the top 10 in your steam list. And those would be the ones used with this feature. In case it was restricted to a particular number of games from the wishlist that is.

Haha, of course you can, I've got no idea what I was thinking about when writing my reply. The problem I can see with this though is people shuffling their wishlists to get access to all giveaways:

  1. Enter giveaways
  2. Put 10 new games as top 10
  3. Resync the site, go to point 1.
This is a clear way for bots.

But I do like your idea, it is very interesting and certainly worth considering.

is dangerous and would need a lot of work, not bad idea indeed, tho I feel sorry for the small un-popular games out there :(

good idea tho

well, people would just put the games on sale on their wishlist during the daily sales/midweek sales, and some games would have no entries since people won't have it on their wishlist

Good idea.

Perhaps an additional rule that the game has to have been on your wishlist for more than a week might get around the biggest issues.

I don't really like this. What if a person just joins the site, and has nothing on his wishlist? He would never know that he needs stuff on his wishlist and he wouldn't be able to join any giveaways without putting that specific game on his wishlist! It sounds really limiting, IMO. If I have a game that isn't on my top 10 that I still want,(or on my wishlist if i forgot to put it on) I'll still want to be able to enter it without any hassle.

I think this is a terrible idea. Just because you don't really think about a game, or know that a game is out there, doesn't mean you won't want to play it. There have been quite a few games that I had never heard of before seeing a giveaway for them. And in one case I hadn't heard of the game, read into it, liked it. Tried a giveaway and didn't get the game. So I then bought the game for myself, a few of my close friends, and one for here that I gave away.

Sure, it sucks that people may win the game and not play it as much as someone else would have.

But this suggestion is also eliminating the option of introducing people to new games they might not have tried or bought otherwise.

Also, how many people really keep their wishlist up to date with everything steam has that they could want? It's unrealistic.

I have only used my wishlist once for one game so I guess I won't be entering many giveaways.

He didn't say Force it on everyone, but make it the Giveaway makers choice, which would be completely fair. Not ALL of them would do it, but the few that wanted could.

This is a bad idea because people's wishlists are changeable at all times. You are just creating busywork for people who want to enter giveaways.
