Apparently the animations for many, if not all the challenges have been slowed down, making them harder overall. I do the challenges on mobile and used to reliably get one key a day apart from the watering and fighting challenges. In the past couple of weeks I've not only lost on the tree cutting a couple of times but also on the rock smashing one, probably the simplest game, and I've yet to win a hoeing game. My sh*t mobile gaming skills don't help either but it's a noticeable change.
I can understand their desire to trim the number of keys handed out each day (I've seen people boast of 4, sometimes 5 keys a day) but I would have thought increasing the malus a better solution than making it much harder for everyone. Or maybe I'm just a crap player 😄. Free is free so I can't complain.

I am also old, but I have the same feeling.
Before I was easy able to get 2x keys a day... Nowadays, only one. (And on pc,.j have trouble getting it on phone).
Apparently they decreased the player speed,.and since In every challenge you have to do a lot of walking, it ends up taking a bigger fraction of the time.
Edit: I read somewhere about the speed. I am unsure if that's confirmed as the reason.

As far as I remember it was about timer speed which was faster on 2nd run after the win.
Right now it's more like this timer modification is applied to the 1st run (I assume IG trying to fight with multiple wins during the day). Now I see that some challenges I finish close to 0, but before I've had like +10 seconds.
Also for some reason watering challenge doesn't register water sometimes - I see the animation, but plant doesn't grow.
Archers became easy for me :)

Rules:
Default time for each challenge is 60 seconds, every key won gives 10 malus (-10 seconds penalty), which can reduced:
Starting malus multiplier = 10 malus (seconds)
also it is possible to lower malus by paying 50 silver coins for per second.
Challenge types and Targets:
Chopping: You need to chope 8 trees in time to beat it.
Sickling: You need to cut 60 grass with your sickle to beat it.
Mining: Mine 14 rocks with your pickaxe to beat it.
Watering: Water 16 plans to win.
Fighting: Kill 9 archers to win.
Picking: Pick 40 saplings to win. ( watch out for the spiky ones that slow you down )
Hoeing: hoe 60 clods to win.
Prizes
Each time, you complete a challenge, you'll get random steam key (from indie to AAA)
If you fail to complete a challenge, you still have a chance to get store credit instead ($0,01-$0,04)
