I like Nvidia cards, but my last one (8800 GT XFX, really nice graphic card) broke for some reason. I've been using an ATI card now for one year and have had no problems.

You can't go wrong with an Nvidia GTX 550 ti or 560 ti. Best performance and least amount of problems (if not, then zero problems) out of all the graphics cards I have ever owned.

lol, not at all. I got the 550 ti for only $120, it wasn't even on sale. 560 ti's go for anywhere over $200, as far as I know. I've never had a problem with the 550 ti yet, and I saved over a $100. So, yeah, the best buy for budget gamers would definitely be the 550 ti right now. I don't know where you're buying your cards at. :P

As to which card to get, it would depend on your use (assuming its gaming), and your budget. Your system's power supply, motherboard (more specifically the number of PCI-E slots and if it supports sli), and resolution will affect your options.
A dual GTX460 would be a great choice if your system runs around 1680x1040 and your on a budget as you can find them for 120 bucks each sometimes. If however your running 6 displays at 5k x 3k then a GTX 590 might be your best option however it would cost you 500-700 dollars. (350-550ish Euros/lbs)

Don't buy hardware simply because it's more popular. You can easily find reviews of cards through google, just define a price range, find all the cards at said price range, throw it on google and see which one has the best performance.
ps: I recommend using anandtech for the source of reviews.

I had some problems with my VAIO's GPU from NVIDIA last year(GT330M), but their drivers are always getting better(now it is trouble-free), their costumer support is super-good, they helped me those days.
My other GPUs from them: Vanta and GeForce FX5200(I am still using FX5200). They were really great in their time.
I think NVIDIA is good company. And so I never used ATI.

I have found that NVIDIA lately has an amazing performance, specially with DX11 and Tesselation, though i never really had the chance to test an ATI for some time, last time i did was a 4890HD, a simply INCREDIBLE gpu and can still easily play every game so far.
As for the Intel gpus, is there one that can actually compete with NVIDIA and ATI???? last i remember they all sucked real hard.

sigh you brainwashed retards. intel don't make GPU's, they just make CPU, with directx compability. a lot of people thinks that nvidia is better than amd. well, nvidia has physx, but physx doesn't mean anything now. you can't compare which is better company, you can only compare 2 products at same time. how to know which is better video card for you? just know your money limit, go to store, choose 2 models at same price (amd and nvidia), then go on internet, and look for benchmarks. buy video card with better performance.
overall, both are good, but amd always has problems with driver compability, but nvidia likes to burn sometimes :P

Intel don't make discreet GPUs but they still make GPUs. They just integrate them into their motherboards.
The i3, i5, and i7 line are also capable of graphics processing without a discreet video card.

integrated graphics is not solution for gaming (although i heard that new ivy bridge (new intel i generation) series will have 3x better video performance. integrated graphics is for netbooks/most of notebooks/HTPC's, because these devices aren't for gaming. integrated graphics saves your power, which means longer battery life or less electricity consumption.

I game just fine on my Sandy Bridge era Intel integrated card. It takes some jury rigging for some games, but people shit on Intel cards far too much - I've only come across a small handful of games I couldn't make playable.

It's not much of a solution if you're looking for high-end performance, no. But it does its job, at least.

You own a 580? Looks like someone is rolling in dosh.
I'd make a joke about it burning your house down but it really is a decent GPU if you can fork over the cash.

AMD. Nvidia are asses and can't even name a product line logically. Not to forget the bluescreens I had every half an hour with a geforce.

Ironic saying that when AMD changed their nomenclature for the 6xxx series and confused many people.

But on the other hand, you only have to read the name of a Radeon HD and you'd know exactly what you have. the name includes generation (thus indirectly, age and features) and rank (budget or high performance)

That's exactly how NVIDIA's nomenclature works. It's effectively the case that AMD's cards are multiplied by 10.
GT520 - GTX590 for the current series of NVIDIA's desktop GPUs, with the previous series being the GT420 - GTX480 (and a 405 though I've never seen it).
Where in both, x80 = high end, x70 = mid-high end, x60 = mid-range and so on - the GTX590 being the dual GPU card while the others are single GPU cards.
AMD's offerings for this series range from the 6450 to the 6990 and the previous series 5450 to 5970.
In the 6xxx series, 6970 - high end, 6950 = mid-high end, 6870 = mid-range and so on - the 6990 is the dual GPU card with, again, the rest being single GPU cards.
In the 5xxx series however, 5870 = high end, 5850 = mid-high end, 5830/5770 = mid-range and so on - with this time, the dual GPU card being the 5970.
Now tell me who is clear in their naming.

That's lots of blahs. I'm still saying AMD is clearer in naming.

AMD just started renaming their cards in the 6XXX sesries, while nVidia did their renaming a couple years back. A fairer comparison would be the 8800GT vs the GTX580 for Nvidia side.

amd, forever. It's much cheaper, and performance is the same or even higher...
If you are looking, for a budget card HD5670 is nice, i have one.. and it is running very well.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have a HD5770, It's still a pretty cheap card and it runs well. If any games don't run smoothly on my PC, it's mostly because of the mediocre CPU and lack of ram
Comment has been collapsed.
I have an HD5770 Vapor-X (Which was very cheap might I add) and I can run 99% of games smoothly. Couldn't be happier, really.
And no, I don't max every-single-thing out because graphics are not everything, and I'm likely to end up spoiled if I try and max-out every game (which is the equivalent of begging to be insane, since games nowadays tend to be more demanding by the release). I like Performance over anything else and my mid-range card does that with nearly every game in the market and more.
I also don't need to spend extra effort on cooling and such, heat being a serious side-effect of high-end cards.
specially Nvidia cards
I've owned both at some point in my life and had problems with neither. I own a 570 right now mostly because it was the exact level of performance I needed and I happened to catch it on sale.
I hear there are fewer problems with SLI over Crossfire (though both can be prone to problems), so take from that what you will.

Just wondering which graphics card company is the most popular with Steam Gifts users!
EDIT: Nvidia is the clear winner. If I were to buy a Nvidia card which one should I get and where should I get it. I'm in the UK.
