Is there a way to enable Steam desktop notifications when you're using the browser to access Steam?

I often don't have access to my steam client (when I'm using office laptops, for one...), and I'm wondering if there's a way to enable some sort of desktop notifications if I were logging in only via browser (I'm using chrome mostly).
