Rockstar screwed me again, first with PS3 now with PC... It already took me more than 12 hours to download (Normally 6mb/s download speed). And now.. Now I can't play singleplayer because it freezes when it starts the mission after the prologue. And I can't join online sessions too, it loads for a really long time and after that it freezes.

I hope you guys can help me because Rockstar is just ignoring me.

Thanks!

Google is your friend.
Also the Steam forum for the game. Use the search function.

For me it works great, but I saw some ppl in Steam discussions have problems like you, if you use Windows 7 I saw someone said you had to download some drivers from Microsoft website, try asking on Steam discussions of GTA V.

Assuming you run an AMD card try updating to the beta drivers released the 9th of april if memory serves me right, I've seen multiple people confirm that it at least fixed their fps so if nothing else works no there's no harm in giving that a try I guess.

+1

These drivers fixed the stuttering I was getting when driving at speed (R9 290).

I always had problems with GTA on PC.

My PC can't run GTA IV smoothly but I can play Saints Row IV or even Life is Strange with no problem.

No PCs can run GTA IV smoothly btw.

I agree it's never perfectly smooth but I could play with my old config. Then since I upgraded it with my 2 Gb graphic card, the game is unplayable even in the lowest quality. It's running constantly in 30 fps.
I stick with San Andreas from now on.

That was a bug, and it was fixable by using some command line arguments when starting the game. It's exactly due to using video cards with more than 1gb.

when it was launched

I could run GTA 4 just fine on a q9300 and 9600GT (1GB).

What is fine for you? 20-28fps with drops? Because that game runs very bad even with Titan GPU.

Hardly. I had 45-50FPS. I also wasnt trying to run the damn thing with HD custom textures and ENB @ 4k. I know that AT RELEASE it ran like shit, and had the drunk cam anti-piracy bug, but if you have run the game since, it is drastically improved due to patches from Rockstar AND Nvidia/AMD.

Asscreed unity cant run for shit, even after its been patched and with dual 980s on an I7 @ 4.5GHZ. So its not like I dont know that games just dont run well due to poor coding. But the vast majority of the time, when people have complained about GTA 4, they are either parroting what they heard, or are remembering only the reviews at launch.

I ran the game fine on a 670, with an ENB, rather recently, and a 670 sure as shit isnt close to a Titan, black, Z, or X, but I also dont run games at 4k either.

Well ok then, is just because with my fx8350 and Radeon 7950 I was getting like 28 fps in that game up to 35, and my friend just a little more with his GTX 770.

I just launched mine with Windows 7 to see if it works. It let me start the game. I admired the Christmas tree in the first location and closed it.

Will play later after I finish Far Cry 3. I keep telling myself only one game at a time...

As others have suggested, I'd look into driver updates. Try your GPU first since it seems to be a problem with freezing after the game starts.

You made me laugh. That's why I love consoles, you just insert the disk (or install the game) and play. But if you want graphics, mods, better audio, etc. pc is the way to go.

Problem is though, that there are console games that couldnt run well at launch and needed at least a patch or two before it could run fine. When you think about just how stupid that is, that a piece of software would have trouble when it was purpose built for a known set of hardware, its just silly. One of the primary reasons to game on PC is because you can eventually find a fix, even if the original dev refuses to push out a patch. Much like the first watch dogs "patch" that made it look better AND run smother after release.
