So I've noticed a lot of Visual Novel games on steam lately. What you guys think about this? And please list your favorite Visual Novel game if you have one too since I want to get some but don't know which one I should get.

Visual Novels belong on steam?

Yes I love reading
No reading is for books and computers are for gaming

Not my type of game

You sure? Theres tons of types of Visual Novel games like classic mystery one, semi action based ones, or strangely popular harem type ones(Sakura series, Hatoful Boyfriend) which somehow are on steam lol.

I love visual novels... But atm Im not able to afford some ^^

But Ive played the first Chapter of Dysfunctional Systems, wich was pretty good.
Id also recommend Without Within (its free but very short) and Cursed Sights when its released (just got funded on ks)

All other Vns Ive played are not on Steam...

I love visual novels ... last 1 i got was Princess Evangile and it is great. Its almost like an anime .
Full Japanease audio , 26 chapters 4 routes ... solid 40+hours worth of gameplay right there.
Much better then most AAA games released lately :)

I do understand why people may not like the genre in general , since there is almost to game to play ... but still everyone has his taste.
Like for me for example FPS games are useless , and Quote : They make me wish there was an option to ignore all FPS games :D

Not really my type of "game" but I like that people that enjoy that genre can find it on Steam nevertheless.

I love reading books, but when I want to play a game I'm not really looking forward to read that long.

I like VNs! :) Long Live the Queen is an intense VN, it's on Steam. I also wanna play Nameless, I've heard that was pretty good. There are plenty that are fantastic that aren't on Steam though, I wish they'd step that up.

I think you made a typo, let me help fix:

"There are some good ones but most of them are crap, especially those not from Japan."

I mean the ones that are translated like shit, like characters are saying stuff that is literally translated from Japanese language but doesn't make sense in English

Which one? I think the ones on Steam right now are all officially translated, and have pretty good translation team worked on it. I only saw the stuffs you said in unofficial fan-made patchs.

Only one I've ever played was Always Remember Me and I don't know if it's a true visual novel as I'm not too familiar with the genre. I see some people calling it one on the Steam store page but others are referring to it as a dating sim or an otome (don't know what means). It was alright but a bit repetetive, played for Playfire rewards achievements then went and 100-percented it seeing as I'd got most of them already.

I'm for letting the market decide on stuff and wouldn't really want to get into whether or not something should or shouldn't be on Steam. If people want them and I don't then I can ignore them. It doesn't hurt me if they're on Steam.

Dysfunctional Systems was good, too bad they cancelled the rest :/
Analogue: A Hate Story was pretty cool too.

I like VNs and wouldn't mind more on Steam, but I like them on a case by case basis. Also no thanks to all the cartoon pron VNs...

Narcissu 1st & 2nd, its free on Steam. You should definitely play it. I think its the best VN I've ever read.
Fun fact: I have 117 hours on record for this game and I haven't even started the 2nd.

I'm not a big fan of them, but I'm glad they're available on Steam for those who do enjoy them. Variety is the spice of life.

well, if it wasnt such anime/manga crap, i actually would check out a visual novel.

Some VNs on steam are actually pretty good, my favourites would be Long Live The Queen and Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (it's free). I mostly play those Dating Sim / VN games but there are some great VNs which are really mostly just reading and have no actual gameplay like Narcissu (also free) and eden*. Really just depends what kinda VN you wanna play...

I don't mind them being on Steam, never understood the hate for them. Should direct that at all the busted and abandoned titles already on here. :D

As for one VN I like...hmmm...Sakura Spirit. Good for a few laughs, plus it's got invisible nipples. May or may not be a good thing. :P
