Which phone would you buy?
i buy an huawei mate 10 lite for 120 euro at deal and i'm very happy about it,support android 8.1,can record screen, can screenshoot with automatic scroll full page, can cut and draw images|photos, camera good with many filters,it come also with "shipping plastic cover" but i use that plastic until now for protect phone from fall down and it save my phone much time, have also fingerprint, can turn on screen just by pickup phone and unlock without need push power button https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUSqH5wravo , can play indie games that not require so much graphics 3d power for example fallout shelter, sims, hitman go etc.
i like much also that this phone have "ultra power battery save mode" when battery is uncharged you put this mode and select only 6 apps (or less) then Battery charge very fast just 1-2 hour 100% and you can continue use apps while charge in this mode also videocall whattap\fb or twitter etc. and phone continue to charge because all other apps on phone will not run in background and not eat internet or battery.

I think that the Huawei Mate 10 Lite is a good phone. It has a reasonable price for what it offers - you might even want to wait for a sale to save some additional bucks.
Not sure about today's conversion rate, but I expect that a Pocophone for £200 might be difficult to find.

The battery charge is 2 hours and 15 minutes from 0% to 100% it doesn't support quick charge, It struggles with 3d graphics badly, Xiaomi offers most of the options you wrote except scroll full page and the ability to use the fingerprint sensor more then just unlocking the screen
also after about a year the battery capacity is average, The camera isn't that good as you say I would say it lacks details.
BUT I do enjoy the phone but I think there are much better phones for the value.

About there is better phone i'm sure other is better because i buy this more months ago and also it was very cheap, but for who looks for cheap and not for better i think is very good.

Can i suggest you to check phone: Asus ZenFone 4 or chepper version Asus ZenFone 4 Max. I bought week ago second phone (Asus ZenFone 4 Max) with 5000 mAh battery, have 5,5' screen, 13 Mpix second 5 Mpix back camera and in front 8 Mpix,32GB memory, 3GB ram, 8core processor. For me its amazing phone or maybe because its new, my previous phone was Xperia Z and with social media (FB, Messenger, Instagram) his battery die after few hours.
Ps sorry for my bad English.
Best Regrads.

I'll say Xiaomi is pretty cheap, i cant recommend I dont follow the trend but for elders you might want a bigger screen and as you mentioned a brighter screen. So you might not be looking at one with replaceable or memory that can be upgraded but fixed memory which will bring down the price. I am not too sure about Black Friday, there's Cyber monday too but its said prices are marked up for these events.
Edit: It'll be good if there are service center near by for the brand you're going to buy if your mum drops it often and need to send for service.
If you need them soon then buy one during the sale if not probably wait for Xmas/New year sale or electronics fair for cheaper prices on electronics. Cheers and Regards, Cruse~

Take a look at Huawei Honor 8X if you want bigger screen.
Pocophone also a good choice without being obsolete/lagging within 3-5 years (?) maybe. As it has the newest SD845 processor in the current market. But the camera is average though and the model doesn't look quite good. Iykwim.

I'll recommend pocophone f1 if you care about specs if you don't, You should go ahead with Mi a2 lite(if you like stock android ui),
If you don't like it go with the redmi note 5, I wouldn't really recommend huawei as there are much better phones for the price.
Currently using Mate 10 lite and I haven't got an update on my device in almost a year. Go with Xiaomi it's very popular in my country right now

I'm voting for Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite (wife has the A1 and she loves the camera's beautify mode), the non-lite model is a bit out of your price range but might be worth the premium for the upgraded front camera (20MP vs 5MP)
If you want a more established brand, check out the Motorola G6 or Motorola One. Don't know how great the cameras are, though.

ugly phone? buy a pretty case! ;)
If NFC is a must-have, that rules out all the phones in your list.
Edit: Here's a list of phone's in your price range with NFC: gsmarena.com

Hello, I've Xiaomi Mi3 (top model in the past) and use of it become worse and worse each year. Each software update make smartphone slowler, new ads (yes, Xiaomi use lot of advertisment in their products and some of it couldn't be turned off). My model have fast overheating (I really want try make fried egg), don't know about this "feature" at last series.
My mate have Huawei Nova 2i and he haven't any kind of those troubles.

i have the Mi A2, 4k capable camera, but the screen is 1080p, Android One is fantastically simple, no skins or anything to bother you, its fast can emulate up until some gamecube games, usb-c, battery lasts around 2 days of normal use, with wifi, 4G and Bluetooth on
the con is that i doesn't have a headphone jack............ it comes with the dongle but the audio quality is terrible trough it. also it supports fast charging but doesn't come with a charger capable of it.

maybe is a regional thing, mine is also the global version, rated for 5V==2A

My wife has a G5. The only thing I don't like about it is the screen. It's LED and not OLED like my Galaxy S6. On the other hand, my Galaxy S6 was not 150 Euro.
I checked the reviews of G6 a while ago. They all seem to recommend it as the best budget Android phone around so far. Plus, it has a removable battery. That should make it a longer lasting phone if you replace the battery after 2-3 years.

The New Nokia Phones are pretty decent and probly cheaper then what you have suggested
Nokia 2 Android 7.1
Nokia 3 Android 7.0
Nokia 5 Android 7.1
All of them is under 150€ and have the basic features.

not sure in what way you think they are ugly, when they look exactly thesame as the rest of the smartphones, moustly what you should look for is battery/processor/ram/disk space.. and last the looks, im sure you don't want to sit all day just to load up an app/browse stuff, becus you picked a phone that looks good, but hadd an old slow processor that can't even run facebook app :P enyways, gl!

Like I said in my first post, the processor and ram and disk space are all super unimportant to me. There will be no games at all played on it, probably not even any videos played, and mum is currently using less than a gig of her storage space on her current phone. 32gb will last her til infinity and back and few phones come with less. Battery is kinda important, but given she doesn't even realise when she leaves her phone at home for the day, as she maybe touches her phone for half an hour a day any current smartphone battery will easily last at least one day and she charges it every night.
Looks, on the other hand, are v important as the look and feel of the phone will make her like it.

As you're UK based, STK might be a good option: cheap, good features, 3 year warranty, UK based company.

Hey! I figured I'd ask here since the site's probably full of people clued up about phones and wanting best value for money.
I'm wanting to buy my mum a new phone for Christmas. She's currently on an ancient, super cheap Windows phone that's also pretty smashed up, so literally anything is an upgrade. She won't play any games or listen to music, so things like speaker quality or processor speed is fairly irrelevant to me. What I'm interested in is camera quality. including selfies and inside shots but just good enough for social media etc, don't need to be able to zoom in and it still be super clear. I'd also like it to look good, so a modern design (not an old flagship now come down in price) and a good, bright screen. I quite like the notch look, but it's not absolutely required.
My budget is up to £200, but as the A2 Lite is currently £130 I'd have to get serious value for the money spend over that. Some of these phones are over that atm, but I'm expecting them all to come down a lil bit more for Black Friday.
I'd love to hear any suggestions you guys have, and thanks for taking the time to help me out!
