Why? 1871 several states united to form the German Empire, so technically it's correct.
But seriously, the Anti-Americanism that is rather common in Germany is awful (and usually completely baseless).

oh common... pls don't get me wrong pls. in the first place it was only a joke...
usually completley baseless? no... for me not... i build my opinion on fakts and so it comes that there are some things i don't like about america because some things are purley stupid... but never mind... there are no countrys which are not stupid, even germany does very stupid things^^ but i think this is simply because humans like to do stupid things xD

I work at an airport in Germany and I agree, it's very Americanized. Any "anti-anything" you get is just your good old xenophobia you have literally everywhere.

Yes and no. Germany is very Americanized when it comes to some things (mainly everyday life and culture) but there is a huge gap between Germany and USA when it comes to (political) ideology, some of the main differences probably being the view on the role of the state itself & its relation to individual citizens and the evaluation of freedom vs. equality.

I am a German. :P
For recent examples just open a 'Spiegel' (or almost any daily newspaper really) and read the articles on the US elections or on disputes about 'Obamacare' in the US. Usually it's basically: "OMG! Them Americans is so stuped, we know it all better".
And if you talk with people about the USA common answers are things like "bad education system", sometimes even "government keeps them dumb on purpose" (as if education here would really be that much better. Some Americans don't know much about Europe? Well ask people here about America/Asia/Africa and the answers won't be any better. Even worse: It's frightening how many Germans don't know anything about Germany's history) or "One-sided right-wing media manipulating people" (To my personal experience countries that hold free-speech and public discussion to high value like USA or Israel tend to have media with sometimes extreme opinions but also heterogeneous media with a lot of different opinions leading to heated debates. While German media might be a bit more moderate but it's usually really homogeneous as well, debating only details with everyone agreeing in prionciple and reacting with outrage to other opinions. I've been to a lot of different countries but I've never seen mass media in a liberal-democratic country as one-sided as in Germany).
Additional to Anti-Capitalism in Germany(which is getting more common again here as well in the last years) has been connected to Anti-Americanism at least since the 1930s, probably even earlier.

Well, what you point out here is kind of what is common among any country in this world. There are always generalized opinions of other countries. France hates Britain and vice versa, Mexicans hate the US, etc etc. This can't be changed. Media always lies to get more viewers/readers.
But from what I experienced I can say most Germans don't have such a bad thinking of the US (I am German too ;)).

I'm not south of the US, the US is south of Chile

This doesn't work, it just moves North to down, south is just up. You're still south of the USA.
North is magnetic, it has nothing to do with the direction of the map, it just so happens most map makers came from the North, and decided to make North up.
