S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is what you describe but it's not quite the same as either Bioshock or Dead Space. It's a lot less linear for a start.

Barbie horse adventure. I think it's exactly what you are looking for.

i fyou like reading domunts and nots in-game, try Deus Ex (the first one, or human revolution, both are great), not the scary type, but great game

Not that similar, but I am really enjoying the Thief series from what I played so far and it is on sale :)

Psychonauts. It is too cool for school. If you brought it to a school, they would probably be like "Hey, you can't bring that here. There is a coolness limit which that game exceeds. It is not allowed."

So you probably can't play it at school. But most other places have a much more reasonable coolness limit. For example, it's not too cool for shul, so if you need to get your Jewish prayers on it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, you can collect peoples memories and emotional baggage and such while in their brains, so there's that.

Doom 3!

I'd recommend Singularity, lots of notes and backstory with some fun shooting and a pretty good ending.
